Chapter 348 Grace Sees Her Mother's Crystal
Grace walked into the study, where her phone was sitting.
But she was more focused on her project, so she fired up the computer to get back to work.
Still half-asleep, Grace could barely keep her eyes open. She'd been feeling unusually tired the past few days, probably because fall was kicking in.
She thought about making some coffee to wake up but decided to dive into the project first.
When she saw the computer screen, she was shocked.
Grace rubbed her eyes, still not believing what she was seeing.
Her project proposal was already done.
Everything was laid out perfectly, the logic was spot-on, clear and easy to follow. The ideas and concepts were perfectly in line with the current market and future trends. It was seriously impressive.
The project was broken down into different sections, each with solid suggestions and solutions. If Grace were the boss, she wouldn't find a single flaw in this proposal.
It was obvious Xavier had done this. After she fell asleep last night, Xavier must have quietly gotten up to help her revise the proposal.
Even though it was based on her original work, Grace never expected her proposal to be this impressive. She realized she still had a lot to learn from Xavier.
She read the proposal several times, amazed at Xavier's skill.
Xavier didn't even know much about the project, yet he managed to nail it in such a short time. It was incredible.
After reading it one more time, Grace sent the proposal to the client.
She decided to make a hearty breakfast to thank Xavier, who had just gone to bed, so she grabbed her phone and got ready to leave the study.
Remembering her phone had vibrated last night, Grace finally had a moment to check it. Among some trivial messages, she noticed one from Kelly.
Grace opened it, and the first thing she saw was a crystal, clear and shiny.
Grace's heart skipped a beat. Wasn't this Evelyn's crystal?
She had seen it at Evelyn's place when she was a kid, and it seemed super important to Evelyn.
Later, when Grace was sorting through Evelyn's stuff, the crystal was nowhere to be found, not even among Zach's things. Where did Kelly get it?
Grace immediately called Kelly, who picked up quickly.
"What's up with the crystal in the message you sent last night?" Grace didn't let on that she knew about it, wanting to get some info from Kelly first.
"Have you seen this crystal before?" Kelly asked directly.
"No," Grace lied. "But I really like it. Where did you get it? I want to buy it."
"Have you truly not seen it?" Kelly sounded skeptical.
Even though Grace and Kelly were working together, Grace couldn't trust Kelly. If Kelly knew the crystal belonged to Evelyn, she definitely wouldn't give it to her. Instead, Kelly might use it as leverage to threaten her.
"Never seen it. Where did you get it?" Grace asked again.
"It's not mine. As for where it's from, since you don't know, you don't need to worry about it," Kelly replied.
With that, Kelly hung up.
Grace frowned and looked at the photo more closely. The background was blurry, but it was clear the crystal was being held in someone's hand, with what looked like books nearby.
Kelly was living at The Montgomery Manor and rarely went out. How could she have seen the crystal unless it was at The Montgomery Manor?
And with all those books, it could be Patrick's study.
The Montgomery Family had a good relationship with the Lewis Family back in the day. Could Patrick have taken Evelyn's belongings?
But what was so special about this crystal that Patrick would be interested in it? And did Patrick's previous words mean? He said Grace had something on her, a secret, and that Xavier was with her because of that secret.
Grace couldn't figure it out. Could all this be related to the crystal?
"What are you looking at so intently?" A voice suddenly came from behind, almost making Grace jump. She turned around to see Xavier and relaxed.
Xavier looked at Grace's expression. "What's going on? You look guilty."
"Why aren't you resting?" Grace asked, looking up at Xavier.
Probably from staying up all night, Xavier had dark circles under his eyes.
"Couldn't sleep," Xavier murmured. He was a light sleeper, and though he had just gone to bed, he felt a sense of emptiness when Grace got up.
"You just went to bed. How long did it take you to write the project proposal?" Grace's eyes sparkled as she looked at Xavier.
There was no one else in Xavier's house, so Grace didn't need to hide her appearance. Her face was still stunningly gorgeous.
"Not long," he replied quickly. Such matters were trivial to Xavier.
Grace had already spent a lot of time on the project. Xavier understood it immediately and only made modifications based on her work.
"What were you just looking at?" Xavier wrapped his arms around Grace from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder.
Grace said, "It's a photo Kelly sent."
She showed him the photograph and remarked, "She found this somewhere. It belonged to my mother. When my mother was alive, I would sometimes catch her in private, gazing at this crystal for prolonged periods, seemingly lost in thought. Upon noticing me, she would quickly hide it. Despite never saying a word about it, this crystal must have held immense significance to her."
Then she went on, "I haven't been able to find it all these years. I thought it was lost somewhere I overlooked. Now it seems more like someone took it. And if it was taken by the Montgomery Family, then there are even more mysteries."
Grace originally didn't want any trouble, but now she realized she seemed to have inadvertently gotten involved in many conflicts.
Xavier asked, "Since you think this crystal was important to your mom, have you looked into its origin?"
Grace shook her head. "Mom didn't want to tell me, so I didn't ask. I just want to get it back because it was my mom's."
She knew Evelyn had secrets, but Evelyn must not have wanted her to get involved in danger. Otherwise, Evelyn wouldn't have kept it from her and made her disguise herself.
"Can you send me the photo?" Xavier asked.
"Yeah." Grace quickly forwarded the photo to Xavier and continued, "Since the crystal wasn't lost but is at The Montgomery Manor, I'll find a way to get it back."
Grace put away her phone and pushed Xavier. "Go get some sleep. What do you want for breakfast? I'll make it."
Xavier didn't let go of her. "I'll have breakfast delivered. Stay with me for a while."
Grace was indeed still a bit sleepy, and it was still quite early. She didn't refuse. "Okay."
