Chapter 569 Xavier The Rights I Gave Her
In the blink of an eye, Grace had already been in Oakworth for two days. During this time, she hadn't done much for her own company but had been frequently visiting Xavier's office.
Xavier's company was swamped with work, and he couldn't keep up with everything. When he had meetings, he asked Grace to help him with the paperwork. Grace was worried she might mess things up for Xavier, but he assured her that he would take responsibility.
Grace sat in Xavier's chair, looking out the floor-to-ceiling windows. The last time she was here, she had felt quite upset. Xavier's words had been hurtful, and even now, thinking about them made her heart ache. But all misunderstandings had been cleared up, and everything was better now.
Grace lowered her head and continued to look at the documents. Surprisingly, the things she previously found incomprehensible were now easy to handle. She could quickly spot issues and unreasonable points in the contracts. Grace sent the documents back, which naturally displeased the people who submitted them.
"This isn't Xavier's handwriting. Who has the nerve to reject my project proposal?" A woman in the downstairs office was visibly annoyed. Her name was Hestia Sharp, a long-time employee at DG Group who often interacted with Xavier.
"I'm going to get to the bottom of this!" Hestia stormed up to the CEO's office without knocking. She was shocked to find a young woman sitting in Xavier's chair.
"Who are you to sit in Mr. Montgomery's office?" Hestia demanded.
Grace looked at Hestia in surprise. "I'm Mr. Montgomery's proxy for today. Is there something you need?"
"Need? Why did you reject my project?" Hestia threw the documents onto Grace's desk, demanding an explanation.
Grace picked up the papers and glanced at them. "I found many unreasonable aspects in your project. The processes are unnecessarily complicated, and the projected profits are unrealistic. I want to see a more complete and feasible plan, not just a flashy proposal."
Hestia was furious. She had completed several successful projects and couldn't believe Grace was questioning her work.
"What gives you the right to sit here and criticize my work? Do you know how many projects I've completed and how much profit I've brought to this company? What have you accomplished to say my work is inadequate?"
Grace remained calm. "Your past successes are indeed commendable, but that doesn't mean this proposal is flawless. These are clear issues. Mr. Montgomery might be too busy to notice, but I don't think someone with your experience should produce such a flawed plan. It makes me question how your previous projects were completed."
Hestia was taken aback by Grace's sharp critique. She hadn't expected Grace to be so insightful.
"Just because you talk a lot doesn't mean you're right. My proposal is solid, and even Mr. Montgomery wouldn't find fault with it. Who do you think you are, questioning my work? Do you know how many sleepless nights I spent on this? You're just being unreasonable!"
Grace, sensing Hestia's hostility, decided to be more direct. "If this is the result of your long hours, I seriously doubt your competence. Given your position, your work should be much better. Maybe you're not suited for DG."
"Who do you think you are to say that? What gives you the right? Who gave you the authority?" Hestia was livid.
Just as Hestia was about to lash out, a cold voice interrupted from behind, "I gave her the authority. Do you have a problem with that?"
Hestia turned to see Xavier striding in. She had seen him a few times, and he was always strikingly handsome and intimidating. His deep-set features and sharp angles made anyone's heart race, but his cold demeanor was terrifying. One look from Xavier felt like being caught in a grave mistake, leaving her breathless.
"Mr. Montgomery, that's not what I meant. I just think it's unreasonable. My project is fine, but she rejected it. I came to ask for an explanation, and she questioned my competence, saying I don't belong in the company." Hestia's voice grew more pitiful.
Anyone else would have asked if she was out of her mind. Complaining to Xavier, unaware that Grace was his future wife?
"Is there a problem with what she said?" Xavier glanced at the proposal. "Isn't this your shortcoming? Why blame others for pointing it out?"
"How long has she been in the industry compared to you? If you can't even match her, do you think your salary is easy money, or that the company can't function without you?"
Hestia couldn't lift her head in front of Xavier. "I didn't mean that. I just had questions. I didn't know why she was in your office."
"I already told you, I authorized it. Starting tomorrow, you don't need to come to work. I can't believe someone in your position submitted such a plan." Xavier was even colder than Grace.
Grace was surprised Xavier fired someone so quickly. She had seen his gentle side and forgotten how ruthless he could be. His reputation as a cold-hearted leader was well-earned; he was always decisive in business.
"Mr. Montgomery, I'll revise the project until Miss is satisfied. Please don't fire me. I've been with the company for years, and even if I haven't achieved much, I've worked hard. If I offended Miss, I apologize. I'm sorry, I'm sorry!"
Xavier looked at her coldly. "I'm firing you for your incompetence, not because of her. I don't want to hear any nonsense in the company."
