Chapter 609 Xavier Doesn't Like You at All, I Have Evidence
"No, no, please, don't."
"Xavier, Xavier!"
Grace's eyes snapped open, and she saw Xavier's worried face.
Xavier was still calling her name, "Grace, Grace?"
The bedside lamp was on, and Grace was drenched in sweat, staring at Xavier as if she hadn't fully emerged from her nightmare.
"What's wrong? Did you have a bad dream?"
Xavier was terrified. Seeing Grace awake, he pulled her into his arms.
Feeling Xavier's heartbeat and breathing, Grace was still shaken.
"Yeah, I had a dream where you, my cousins, and my grandpa were all gone. It was just me, all alone."
The dream felt so real, an endless darkness she couldn't escape, as if the world had abandoned her.
"Dreams are always the opposite of reality. Don't overthink it. Your grandpa will be fine," Xavier said soothingly, his voice low and comforting.
"And I'm here with you. No matter what happens, I'll always be by your side."
It must be the recent issues with Chase that were weighing heavily on Grace.
Maybe it was because she had finally found a family, and she was terrified of losing them.
But they were all there for her, always.
"Okay." Grace nodded, but her face still hadn't regained its color.
For the rest of the night, Grace couldn't sleep well. She didn't know if Xavier was asleep, but she clung tightly to her clothes, her heart unable to settle.
She hoped she was overthinking things. Time would surely make everything better.
Chase would get better, her wedding with Xavier would go smoothly, they'd have a cute baby, and their family would be happy and together!
...
The next morning, Xavier's phone rang early. He was in the kitchen, and Grace heard it, so she brought the phone to him.
"Someone's calling you." Grace handed the phone to Xavier.
Xavier was busy making porridge, wearing an apron, his hands never stopping. It was a scene that would shock anyone, a perfect picture of a domestic husband.
Xavier was too busy to answer, so he said, "Can you get it for me?"
It was just work-related calls; he had no secrets from Grace.
"Sure." Since Xavier allowed it, Grace answered the call.
"Hello," Grace said.
A woman's voice immediately came through, "Xavier, why haven't you come to save me? Xavier..."
Grace was taken aback and handed the phone to Xavier, "I think it's for you."
Xavier hadn't checked the number when he asked Grace to answer, not realizing it was Brittany.
"Xavier, I've been waiting for you all night. You promised to come save me." Brittany's voice became more suggestive, making one imagine all sorts of things.
Grace didn't know who this was, but she trusted Xavier. In this matter, she had faith in him.
Grace's face showed a playful tease, "She's been waiting for you all night. Aren't you going to find her?"
Xavier was silent.
He took the phone from Grace and hung up immediately.
Grace looked at him, "Mr. Montgomery, do you have anything to explain?"
"That was Brittany Lewis," Xavier said.
Grace was surprised. Xavier knew Brittany?
And when did they start contacting each other? She had no idea.
She remembered the incident with Taylor. Xavier had someone release Taylor, right? Was Brittany involved then too?
"How come I didn't know you knew Brittany?"
"This is a long story. I'll explain it to you in a few days."
"Alright." Grace nodded, temporarily letting Xavier off the hook.
Xavier brought out breakfast, and after eating with Grace, he went to see Jared.
Jared was now handcuffed, and it looked like Scott had beaten him up again. The injuries on his face were more pronounced, and his body seemed badly hurt too.
When he saw Xavier, he managed a smirk, "Well, if it isn't Mr. Montgomery. Have you come to your senses and decided to see me?"
"Where is Brittany being held?" Xavier asked directly.
"Brittany? So Mr. Montgomery still cares about Brittany, huh? After all, she saved you when you were a kid. Of course, you care. If you want me to release her, you have to agree to my terms and convince Grace."
"To convince her, I need to see Brittany first. Where is she?"
Jared initially didn't want Xavier to go, but then he thought of something and changed his mind.
"I can give you the location, but don't try any tricks."
As long as Xavier went to find Brittany or brought people to rescue her, it would fit perfectly into Jared's plan.
He would then call Grace over, let her see the scene, and make her believe Xavier cared about another woman. He was sure this would create a rift between them.
Any issues between Grace and Xavier would make it easier for him to manipulate things.
Jared gave Xavier the address and then called for others, "I want to see Grace!"
Soon, Scott came over, "Grace isn't someone you can see just because you want to."
Scott was annoyed with Jared. If it weren't for Jared withholding the antidote, he would have killed him already.
"I need to see Grace. I have something to tell her about Xavier. Bring her here, and I'll talk to her."
"Stop trying to sow discord!" Scott didn't believe a word Jared said.
Jared replied, "You've tied me up. What are you afraid of? I'm telling you the truth. Xavier can't be trusted. He doesn't care about Grace."
"You're talking nonsense!"
"If you think I'm lying, bring Grace here. I have proof."
Seeing Jared's confidence, Scott began to doubt. Could Xavier have done something to betray Grace?
Scott brought Grace over. She stood opposite Jared, "My cousin said you wanted to see me. Have you decided to give my grandpa the antidote?"
Jared laughed, "Don't be in such a hurry. There's something you need to know. Xavier doesn't really care about you."
Grace stared at Jared. She knew whether Xavier cared about her or not.
They lived together every day, and the details showed his genuine feelings.
Jared said, "I know you don't believe me, but I have proof."
Judging by the time, Xavier should be with Brittany now. Jared had planned everything, and this time, there would be no surprises.
