Chapter 282 Defending Him
Upon Xavier and Grace's arrival at the racetrack, they discovered Victor and Isaac already comfortably lounging with their legs crossed, sporting sunglasses, and engaged in lively conversation. They appeared as if they were on a leisurely vacation, complete with a drink thoughtfully placed beside them.
Though they were clearly at the racetrack, they exuded an air of being on a beach vacation.
Seeing Grace and Xavier approaching, Victor stood up and said, "What took you so long?"
Xavier replied, "We were off doing something else without telling you."
Victor asked, "Really? Grace, what were you two doing without telling me?"
"Nothing at all!" Grace responded.
Victor tried to see Grace's face, but Xavier blocked him.
Victor still found it curious. "Grace, your makeup is amazing. I can't even tell which one is really you. You really scared us that night."
Isaac nodded in agreement. He had seen Grace's face several times, but he still couldn't connect it to the beautiful Grace from that night.
Afterward, he even wondered if he had been drunk and hallucinating.
Grace was unable to do her makeup that evening because she was in such a hurry.
However, since Victor and Isaac were good friends of Xavier, it didn't matter if they knew the secret. Besides, she was also familiar with Victor.
"I usually wear makeup when I go out, just like you see now," Grace said frankly.
"You wear makeup even when hanging out with us? So I thought it was an illusion that night. Grace, would you consider performing a live makeup removal so we can once again admire your beautiful appearance?"
"Sure."
"No way!" Grace and Xavier spoke in unison. Grace turned to look at Xavier.
"If you want to see, Grace has to remove her makeup?" Xavier asked.
Victor pouted. "I just want to see."
He continued to grumble indignantly, "Grace said it was actually fine."
However, Victor dared not speak too loudly, as he knew he couldn't win against Xavier.
Xavier turned to Grace. "From now on, just ignore whatever Victor says."
Grace remained silent.
It seemed rather inappropriate for Xavier to speak so brazenly in front of Victor.
Victor said, "I remember Grace was pretty good at racing, right?"
Grace said, "Not as good as you. I'm just an amateur."
Victor said, "You're too modest. We all know your skills. How about we just drive around today, no competition?"
"Sure," Grace agreed. She had no problem with that.
"How about each of us takes a car?" Victor looked at Xavier.
Xavier said, "I don't know how to race."
Victor was puzzled. He thought he had misheard. "What did you say?"
What was Xavier up to? Didn't he have an international racing license? Now he was saying he couldn't drive?
But Victor was smart and quickly understood Xavier's intention.
Victor said, "I must have remembered wrong. You really can't drive. How about you and Grace share a car? Grace is a good driver."
Grace was puzzled. How could Xavier not know how to drive? The previous time at the racetrack, when her car encountered an issue, it was Xavier who came to her rescue.
Although Grace hadn't seen Xavier's face at the time, and Xavier didn't admit it afterward, Victor had clearly said that the red race car was Xavier's.
Victor asked, "Grace, is it okay if Xavier rides with you?"
Grace nodded.
"Since you two are sharing a car, shouldn't there be a bet?" Victor asked.
"What kind of bet?" Grace asked.
Victor pondered for a moment and said, "How about the loser obeys the winner's commands for a month? Of course, I don't mean you, Grace. I'm referring to Xavier serving me for a month. Isaac, what do you think?"
Isaac said calmly, "I think you're asking for trouble."
Victor said, "What's wrong with you? I'm trying to get you some benefits. Xavier, you wouldn't be afraid to bet, would you?"
He knew Xavier could race and that he was very adept at it.
Victor recalled Grace's performance in the last race. She drove quite fast, but her skills were still slightly inferior to his.
So Victor was confident he would win.
"I'm the one driving, so if there's a bet, it should be on me," Grace said.
She wasn't sure if she would win, and it wouldn't be good to bet Xavier away.
"Grace, you haven't even married Xavier yet, but you're already defending him," Victor teased.
His words made Grace's face blushed. She and Xavier weren't like that!
"I'm willing to bet with you but I am afraid you will lose too badly," Xavier said calmly.
"It's not you driving, so don't be so confident. We don't know who will win yet. Grace, don't take it too seriously. I'll give you some benefits later and let Xavier serve both of us," Victor joked with Grace.
Grace, mimicking Victor's joking tone, said, "Sure, but I only want Xavier to serve me."
"Grace, you're a traitor!" Victor said, feigning heartbreak.
Grace chose a race car, and Xavier sat in the passenger seat. Grace still felt something was off.
"Do you really not know how to race?" Grace asked again, uncertain.
Instead of answering, he asked, "Do you think I do?"
He didn't want to lie to Grace, so he didn't answer the question.
Grace said, "I just think you're capable of anything. Racing should be a piece of cake for you."
Xavier smiled. "In your mind, I'm capable of anything?"
Grace was at a loss for words.
She pondered momentarily before saying, "I mean, in many people's minds, you're capable of anything."
"Really? What about in your mind?" Xavier seemed intent on pursuing the question.
Grace's ears turned red. She saw that Victor had already started driving and changed the subject, saying, "Mr. Hastings has already started. I should get going too."
Her racing skills were quite good; she just usually kept them under wraps.
But she was just an amateur and had no confidence against Victor.
"Mr. Montgomery, you agreed to the bet. Don't blame me if we lose," Grace warned.
Xavier turned his gaze towards Grace, and an unusual warmth radiated from his typically cold eyes, and his voice was much softer. "To make sure I only serve Ms. Lewis, shouldn't Ms. Lewis try a little harder?"
Grace's heart raced with joy and her cheeks flushed with heat.
Was this something Xavier would say? Was he sick?
