Chapter 623 Xavier Must Be in Trouble
"Grace? What made you call me out of the blue?" Sterling's voice had that familiar teasing tone.
"Sterling, I need your help with something."
Grace wasn't reaching out to anyone else; it had to be Sterling. He had the power and resources that might be crucial in catching Jared.
Even though Grace hated to trouble others, this was one of those times where Sterling might have a solution.
"What's going on? Just spill it."
Grace quickly explained the situation, and Sterling was floored. "All that happened?"
He'd only been away from Skigeth for a short while, and despite Xavier and the Coleman family being there, Jared still managed to pull off his schemes.
And Chase was dead? Sterling had shared a couple of meals with him; he was a good old man.
Sterling had siblings and parents, but growing up in a place full of scheming and backstabbing, even sharing a meal was a calculated move.
Over the years, Sterling had fought his way to a good position in his family, but it never felt like home. Those casual meals at the Coleman Villa felt more genuine.
Now Grace was telling him Chase was dead?
"Don't worry, I'll find Xavier for you!"
After hanging up, Sterling immediately ordered his men to locate Xavier. Skigeth wasn't that big; Xavier couldn't just disappear.
Soon, Sterling's subordinate reported back, "Mr. Wallace, Xavier might... might..."
"Might what? Spit it out."
After hesitating, the subordinate finally said, "He might be gone."
Sterling was stunned. What did he mean by "gone"?
"Xavier was chasing Jared on the ocean. The yacht belonged to Jared. Both Jared and Xavier were likely on board when it exploded. The blast was so intense and widespread that if they were at the center, they might have been blown to pieces. And in the ocean, finding them would be like searching for a needle in a haystack."
Even Sterling couldn't accept this outcome. He despised Xavier, but he never imagined his rival would suddenly be gone.
Wasn't Xavier supposed to be invincible, always in control? How could he end up in a mutual destruction with Jared?
Did Grace know about this? Probably not, or she wouldn't have called him for help.
How was he supposed to break this news to Grace?
Not long after, Sterling's phone rang again. It was Grace. Seeing her number, Sterling hesitated to answer.
He ignored the call, but it rang again shortly after.
After two or three attempts, Sterling still didn't pick up, making Grace even more anxious. She sent him a message: [Mr. Wallace, are you busy?]
Sterling was still investigating, determined to find out the truth. What if it was just a false alarm? What if Xavier wasn't dead?
Xavier was too capable to die so easily. He had a fiancée and a child; would he really abandon them?
It was clear that he and Grace had a strong bond. Grace had just endured the pain of her grandfather's death. If she found out about Xavier, how could she handle it?
Moreover, the media would surely report on such a massive explosion and accident. If Xavier was truly gone, it couldn't be kept a secret.
"Get me a plane to Skigeth immediately!" Sterling barked at his secretary.
Sterling seemed to have vanished, with no news at all, making Grace even more uneasy.
"Angela, why isn't Mr. Wallace answering his phone?" Grace's anxiety grew.
Angela thought for a moment. "Maybe he's busy, investigating for you, or in a meeting without his phone."
"I hope so." Grace could only pray to God for Xavier's safety.
Grace looked up at the TV, which was still broadcasting the news.
They were at a crematorium, and the staff were discussing nearby. "Looks like we won't be making any money from this."
"Why? This seems like a big deal. If there were many people on that yacht, we'd be overwhelmed."
"Are you stupid? This happened at sea. Can you retrieve the bodies? Those who died might not even be found, and do you know how many piranhas are in the ocean?"
"That's really tragic. The people on that yacht probably didn't survive."
Grace watched the report. Drones were flying over, and rescue teams were rushing to the scene. In a short time, the yacht was almost submerged, with only a small part still burning.
The drone footage was shaky, capturing the rescue efforts.
Suddenly, Grace saw something.
Her pupils contracted. "Angela, Angela, look at that person. Is that Mason?"
The figure at the front, though blurry, was unmistakably Mason to Grace.
Angela squinted. "No way, Mason is Xavier's secretary. Why would he be there? You must be mistaken."
Grace was sure it was Mason, even if the image wasn't clear. She could tell by the silhouette.
Why was Mason there? And where was Xavier?
A thought struck her: Xavier must be in trouble, definitely in trouble!
"Angela, take me to the dock. You drive; it's more convenient." Grace stood up, determined to go.
Angela hurried after her. "Grace, maybe you're overthinking. It's raining, the roads will be congested and unsafe. We should wait for more news. If Mr. Montgomery knew you were running around like this, he wouldn't be happy."
Angela tried to persuade her, but Grace insisted on going to the dock.
Angela had no choice but to call the Coleman family while driving Grace there.
At the dock, the yachts were all moored, with no incidents. Grace immediately said, "Take me to the other dock, the abandoned one!"
Angela drove to the other side.
Grace kept dialing, her actions never stopping. Xavier's phone was still off, Mason's phone went unanswered, and Sterling had no news.
Grace sent Sterling a message: [Be honest with me. Did you find out something? Did Xavier get into trouble?]
Seeing the message, Sterling's worst fear was confirmed.
He was already on his way to the airport and immediately called Grace.
Sterling's voice was heavy. "You know already?"
