Chapter 615 A Neat and Tidy Family
"So that crystal was supposed to be mine? Brittany really lucked out!" Grace fumed.
Just thinking about how Brittany had taken her things for so long, and almost caused misunderstandings between her and Xavier again, made her angry.
However, the video had been edited by Xavier. The part where he shot Brittany and had people silence her permanently was removed. Such gruesome scenes were not suitable for Grace to see.
So, the video only showed the part where he was questioning Brittany.
Grace handed the phone back to Xavier. "How did you think to record this?"
"Just in case. You never know with someone like Jared. It seemed too easy for him to let me see Brittany, so I figured there had to be more to it. I decided to be cautious."
That's why he had someone record from behind him, just in case.
"What about Brittany? What are you planning to do with her? Let her go?"
Xavier chuckled lightly. "I'm actually a good person."
"What?" Grace thought Xavier's self-perception was definitely off. He wasn't exactly a bad guy, but calling him a good person was a stretch.
"So?" Grace asked.
Xavier replied, "So, I'm planning to send her to reunite with her mother."
Grace fell silent.
A good person wouldn't do such a thing. Taylor was struggling abroad, reportedly sent by Xavier to the harshest part of Africa. Brittany, a pampered rich girl, probably wouldn't survive long there.
Even though she was happy to know Xavier was the boy from next door, Grace couldn't help but worry.
"You said we knew each other as kids. God played such a big joke on us, letting us go so many years without realizing it. Do you think God will play another joke on us?"
"Of course not. God won't separate us." Xavier held Grace's fingers. "Don't forget, in three days, we're getting married."
"That's right!"
Three days would fly by in the blink of an eye. Soon, they would be legally married.
Xavier had even consulted a fortune teller to pick the date.
"But Jared won't hand over the antidote, and you've cut off Brittany's connection. Jared definitely won't give up the antidote now."
"Maybe we should let Jared come to us. We can prepare, and when he finds what he wants and brings out the antidote, we can find a way to take it back."
Grace quickly dismissed her idea. "No, no, Jared is too cunning. If he gets what he wants, he'll leave and promise to give the antidote later, which would be a lie."
Thinking about Chase made Grace feel down.
She felt powerless, not knowing how to save Chase.
She had searched through many of her mother's belongings but couldn't find anything that Jared might want.
What exactly did Jared want?
Xavier said, "Maybe we should let Jared search. Your grandfather's life is more important."
"But I feel like my mom didn't want to give it up because it's dangerous. If Jared gets it, it could harm more people."
Grace had many concerns. Her mother had hidden herself rather than let Jared find her, preferring to die from poisoning rather than be discovered, indicating the item was extremely important and dangerous.
"But your grandfather means the world to you, right? Maybe I'm not the most generous person, but if someone I cared about were in trouble, I'd do anything to save them."
"And Jared won't be able to run off with it. We'll have so many eyes on him, including me and your cousins."
Scott had already tried other methods to get Jared to talk, which in ancient times would be considered torture, but Jared still wouldn't spill.
It seemed Jared was determined to take someone down with him.
Xavier discussed it with Steven and Scott. They all wanted Chase to be okay, so they agreed to let Jared search for what he wanted.
Grace gathered all her mother's belongings for Jared to search. "Everything is here. These are all my mother's possessions."
Jared had already searched several times while Grace was in Oakworth and found nothing.
He searched again but found nothing. "You're lying. Elizabeth's possessions must include more."
"These are all there is. If you don't believe me, there's nothing I can do."
Grace had always treasured her mother's belongings, but there were very few, just these.
Jared searched again. "Impossible, absolutely impossible. There must be more."
"Jared, my mother's things are all here. Maybe what you want is something harmful, and my mother already disposed of it. If it was harmful, she definitely wouldn't have kept it."
Jared still didn't believe it. "Impossible, definitely impossible!"
The technology was so advanced that Elizabeth couldn't have destroyed it. It must be hidden somewhere.
Jared frantically searched through the items.
In the end, he still found nothing.
"Jared, it's your problem if you can't find it. We're not withholding anything. Where's the antidote for my grandfather? Hand it over!" Scott was losing patience.
Chase's condition was critical, and the hospital had issued several emergency notices.
They were doing their best to save him, but Chase's health was deteriorating rapidly.
Even when Steven pointed a gun at Jared's head and cut off one of his fingers, Jared still wouldn't give up the antidote, convinced Grace was hiding something. If she didn't hand it over, he wouldn't give the antidote.
The next evening, the hospital reported that Chase's condition had improved slightly and suggested that family members visit.
Grace, Xavier, and the Coleman family brothers all came, along with Angela and their parents. The whole family was there.
Seeing them, Chase was very happy.
But tears also welled up in his eyes. "Why are you all here? I'm fine. I'll be out of the hospital soon. Look, I'm feeling much better today."
"When I get out, we should all get together in a big room and have a family dinner. Steven, make sure to bring Bella. And Thomas, your brother is married, and your sister is getting married the day after tomorrow. You need to hurry up and bring me a granddaughter-in-law."
