Chapter 578 Approaching the Truth

Following Xavier's instructions, Dominic arrived at Dorian's hospital room. He was dressed in a white coat, accompanied by a group of nurses, looking quite professional.

Jane stayed close to Dorian, worried that something might happen again, especially if Grace showed up. She eyed Dominic warily, "What are you doing here?"

"Hey there, we're the doctors on duty. I'm Dominic."

Dominic was already a well-known doctor; he had previously conducted the autopsy on Elizabeth's remains. He spoke in Vesperian, but Jane couldn't understand him because she didn't speak the language. However, Dominic was fluent in foreign languages and could understand Jane.

"I don't understand what you're saying. Get out!" Jane demanded, not wanting to listen.

Dominic replied, "According to hospital protocol, we're here for rounds to check on the patient's condition."

Dorian understood Vesperian, so he translated their identity to Jane and allowed them to enter.

Jane protested, "But we have a private doctor, Davi is here. Why should we let these people in? Are their medical skills as good as Davi's?"

Dorian said, "It's a courtesy and protocol. Let them in."

Jane was reluctant, but since Dorian insisted, she had no choice but to stay by his side. However, the doctors' questions were all in Vesperian, which Jane couldn't understand, making her anxious.

Dominic had a background in psychology and had even helped Lucius with some psychological issues. While examining Dorian, he asked many probing questions, subtly trying to uncover something. Fortunately, Jane couldn't understand, which saved a lot of trouble.

Xavier had asked Dominic to be cautious of Jane. Xavier felt something was off with Dorian; he seemed affected by Elizabeth's face but didn't understand the psychological aspect, so he sought professional help.

Jane sensed something was wrong and quickly brought Davi over. Davi understood Vesperian and, after hearing two questions from Dominic, immediately intervened, stating he was Dorian's private doctor and any questions should be directed to him. Dominic exchanged a few words with Davi before leaving with his team.

Outside, Dominic called Xavier.

"How did it go?" Xavier asked directly.

"You really don't hold back, not even asking if I'm tired," Dominic replied.

Xavier replied, "Get to the point!"

Dominic continued, "I probed, but got no results. Dorian genuinely seems unaware of Elizabeth, but his private doctor seems knowledgeable in psychology. I asked two indirect questions, and he immediately blocked me. You should investigate him further."

"As a psychologist, I can tell you Jane is definitely suspicious. She seems terrified of Dorian interacting with others, reacting strongly, as if she's afraid of something happening. She's in a constant state of anxiety."

This was a clear indication of a significant issue. Xavier was now certain these people knew Elizabeth.

Elizabeth's death, her decision to leave Aetheria, her family, and move alone to Skigeth, marrying a stranger, changing her name, and disguising Grace all pointed to Elizabeth wanting to remain hidden. Something must have scared Elizabeth into hiding.

"Dorian doesn't remember Elizabeth at all. Could he have been brainwashed or hypnotized?" Xavier speculated.

Dominic said, "It's possible, but erasing someone's memory is difficult unless there's constant reinforcement. Wait, that doctor!"

If the doctor could hypnotize, everything made sense.

"Xavier, I think you're right. His memory might have been altered. Even accidental memory loss can be triggered by familiar sights and memories. You could try stimulating him."

"But Jane is a problem. If you could get rid of her, it would be ideal."

"Got it."

Getting rid of Jane was easy for Xavier. After all, this was his territory.

Xavier quickly shared this information and speculation with Steven.

"I didn't know Aunt Elizabeth might know Dorian. If Jared and Jane are connected, does that mean they're working together?"

The Coleman family had ties with the Peterson family, but Steven wasn't very familiar with Jared and didn't know his character well. Jared claimed to be Grace's father, but if he was responsible for Elizabeth's death, Steven would make him pay, no matter the cost.

"Keep an eye on Jared's actions. I worry his fatherly demeanor is a facade. If he makes a move, we should be prepared."

After the call with Steven, Xavier's furrowed brow didn't relax. This seemed like a big mystery, and uncovering it might reveal much more.

Jared claimed to be Grace's father, but Xavier doubted it. He even had other suspicions about Grace's true father. Investigating would reveal the truth; blood relations can be proven with evidence.

Xavier assigned Grace a task: to meet Robert the next day.

Grace agreed, not knowing Xavier's intentions but willing to cooperate.

The next day, Grace invited Robert for coffee. Robert, having had a rough few days, welcomed the chance to refresh himself.

Robert said, "Grace, we might return to Aetheria soon. Jane isn't well, possibly due to the environment, and she's paranoid and irritable."

"Don't worry, we appreciate your and Xavier's help. Once we're back in Aetheria, I'll find a way to thank you."

Grace replied, "We're friends, no need for formalities. When are you leaving?"

"Jane wants to leave as soon as possible, and I agree. Dorian's health is fine, and the private jet is ready. It could be tonight or tomorrow."
