Chapter 192 Expensive Earrings
Grace quickly bought all the books Mason recommended and stayed late at the office before heading home.
The next day, Angela swung by for lunch with Grace. After finishing up their work, Grace snagged a reservation at a nearby BBQ spot.
They enjoyed some mouthwatering barbecue. The meat sizzled on the grill, looking irresistible.
"Grace, are you okay?" Angela asked, knowing about Ryan's affair and the Montgomery family's apology. They were really giving Grace a hard time.
Grace stayed calm. "I'm fine, really."
"I was so worried. What are you going to do about the Montgomery family? They're such jerks!"
Angela was fuming. She devoured more barbecue and even offered some to Grace. "Here, pretend this meat is Ryan. Tear him apart!"
Grace laughed, "That's too gross. If this were Ryan, I'd probably puke everything I just ate."
Seeing Grace joke around, Angela knew she was okay. Grace was always optimistic, no matter what.
"We've got time. Let's figure things out slowly," Angela said, her mouth full, looking like a cute hamster.
Grace expertly grilled the meat, adding Angela's favorite seasonings. Each bite was a burst of flavor, leaving her wanting more.
Angela, still eating, said, "Grace, why not go seduce Xavier?"
Grace, caught off guard, choked immediately. The saucy food stuck in her throat, making her eyes water.
Angela quickly handed her water. "Here, drink this. You okay? That looked rough!"
Grace downed the water, barely recovering.
"How could you be so careless?" Angela said.
"What nonsense were you talking about?" Grace's face turned red. Angela's wild guess was actually spot on.
Between her and Xavier, it wasn't seduction; it was more like a coincidence. They had done things they shouldn't have.
But Angela thought Grace's face was red from choking.
"I'm serious. Xavier can definitely protect you. The Montgomery family is no match for him," Angela insisted.
Grace replied, "Xavier might be powerful, but that doesn't concern me. I'm not a kid; I don't need babysitting."
Angela countered, "Just because we're grown up doesn't mean we don't need protection sometimes. Remember when we were kids? No one protected us then. I just hope someone tough has my back in the future!"
Grace said, "You'll definitely find someone like that!"
"By the way, at a fashion show in Oakworth, I saw a really handsome guy. Tall, good-looking, strong presence. It's just a pity he had a dumb, narcissistic brother."
"Really? You didn't get his contact info?" Grace rarely heard Angela talk about a guy she liked.
Angela shook her head. "I'm not that kind of person. If it's meant to be, we'll meet again."
They ate until they were stuffed, and Angela happily washed it all down with a big soda.
"Hey Grace, remember those earrings you asked me about?"
"Yeah, did you find out anything?" Grace had been so swamped she almost forgot.
"I did, but why the sudden interest? Where did you see them? Tell me the truth." Angela asked, sensing something was up.
"I just saw them online."
"Really? Don't lie to me." Angela looked skeptical.
Grace hesitated. She'd already kept Angela in the dark about Xavier, so she decided to come clean.
"Actually, someone gave them to me. He said they weren't worth much, but I think they're valuable," Grace admitted.
"What? He said they weren't worth much?" Angela was shocked. How rich must someone be to say that?
"Are they really expensive?" Grace was startled by Angela's reaction.
"Don't be fooled by their size. They're antiques, and the items inside the pendants are priceless. My friend said these earrings could be worth over ten million dollars."
"Who gave them to you? Stop beating around the bush. Do you still have them? Can I see them?" Angela pressed.
"Xavier gave them to me."
Angela gasped, covering her mouth. "I knew he was acting weird around you. Why would he give such an extravagant gift? Is he trying to win your heart?"
"Nah, he's probably just got too much money and doesn't know how to spend it."
Grace hadn't expected the earrings to be so valuable.
Angela's disbelief was palpable. Who casually hands out something worth over ten million dollars for no reason? Even if Xavier was loaded, this was over the top.
Angela went home with Grace to see the earrings for herself.
Seeing the beautiful earrings in person, Angela realized they were even more stunning than in the photo. The craftsmanship and design were perfect.
"I'm convinced Xavier gave you these with some intention," Angela said, examining the earrings closely.
Grace had no idea of their true value. When Xavier said they weren't worth much, she thought they might be worth tens or hundreds of thousands.
Now, knowing their real worth, Grace felt even the packaging box might be expensive, and she couldn't accept the gift.
She closed the box and picked it up. "Angela, I need to return this to Xavier."
"Why not keep them? They're gorgeous. Aren't you tempted?" Angela asked.
Grace genuinely loved the earrings. She was captivated by their beauty at first sight.
But she reasoned she could buy them herself. Accepting Xavier's gift without a special occasion seemed wrong. Besides, she knew she could afford items worth over ten million dollars.
Seeing Grace's determination, Angela knew that was just her personality. "Then go return them," she said.
Angela bid farewell to Grace. "I'll head home. Let's catch up next time."
Grace drove Angela home first, then headed to the Bameran villa.
It wasn't too late, and when Grace arrived, the butler Kieran said Xavier hadn't returned yet.
Grace knew Xavier was busy. "Can I wait for him here?"
"Of course." Kieran replied. He knew Grace was special to Xavier. After all, Xavier had only ever brought two women home.
Besides the time Xavier brought home a drunk, beautiful woman, there was only Grace.
