Chapter 459 Who said once wasn't enough last night?
The next morning, when Grace woke up, it was already daylight.
It seemed like a long time since she had rested so well, sleeping until the sun was high in the sky.
When she woke up, she found herself tightly embraced by a pair of strong arms. Xavier was holding her, his eyes closed.
Grace didn't know when Xavier had fallen asleep, but seeing his dark circles, she didn't have the heart to wake him up.
Grace looked at Xavier's features, wondering how his eyelashes could be so long and his nose so straight.
Xavier was five years older than Grace. She remembered seeing Xavier when she was a child, right after he returned to the Montgomery Mansion. Xavier was ten years old then, and she was only five.
She remembered Xavier standing on the outskirts of the crowd, cold and silent. Ryan and the others said Xavier was an illegitimate child who had come back to fight for the family inheritance. They also said Xavier was sick and called him a mute, forbidding other children from playing with him.
Grace had walked over and handed her candy to Xavier, but then Evelyn called her away.
The Lewis family and the Montgomery family had a good relationship, but Evelyn rarely took her to the Montgomery Mansion.
Not long after, she heard that Xavier's mother, Donna, had passed away. Grace saw Xavier from a distance again. He was quiet and didn't make a fuss, still not saying a word. Ryan and the others cursed him, saying he was a bastard who didn't even mourn his own mother's death.
Not long after that, Evelyn also passed away, and Taylor moved into the Montgomery Villa with her two daughters, Brittany and Madison.
Madison was spoiled, and while Brittany wasn't as overtly hostile, her sharp gaze made Grace dislike her even more.
Grace remembered discovering an empty house nearby that seemed to have someone or something locked inside. She didn't know if it was a person or a forgotten pet.
But Grace felt it was a person, just someone who didn't like to talk or didn't want others to see their embarrassment.
During that time, Grace secretly brought food there every day.
She never saw who was inside, only knowing that the food she left would be gone the next day.
She tried to communicate with the person inside, telling stories, but the person never responded.
Later, when Grace was about to bring food again, Zach inexplicably threw a tantrum and locked her in a dark room, so she couldn't deliver the food that day.
The next day, when she was let out, she found her lunchbox empty. Taylor said she had thrown away the spoiled food.
When she went back to that place, it seemed deserted. The food she brought was untouched.
After that, Grace continued to bring food for several more days, but it remained untouched. Perhaps the person had already left.
Grace didn't dwell on it because it was such a small matter.
After that, Brittany started playing the good Samaritan, bringing food to homeless people and even stray cats and dogs, practically advertising her kindness.
Everyone knew that Brittany, the Lewis family's adopted daughter, was sensible, cute, and kind-hearted.
At that time, everyone compared Brittany to Grace, praising Brittany while belittling Grace.
Especially Zach, who scolded her daily for being thoughtless and unnecessary.
Although Grace didn't care about these things, she felt abandoned by the world, as if she didn't belong in that family.
Grace didn't know why she was thinking about her childhood after all these years.
When she snapped out of it, she found that Xavier was already awake.
"What are you thinking about?" Xavier had noticed Grace daydreaming.
"Thinking about how you promised just once last night, but..."
Xavier said, "Are you sure just once would really satisfy you?"
Grace was silent.
"Who was the one saying it wasn't enough last night?"
A blush crept up her face again. Grace said, "You were just coaxing me."
"That was my fault. Next time, however many times Grace says, that's how many times."
"You're already thinking about next time!"
"Why not? Every time I saw you before, I wanted to keep you in my bed and bully you hard."
Grace's face turned completely red. This Xavier, how could he always think such improper thoughts!
"I'm not talking to you anymore." Grace turned her head away.
Xavier stroked her hair and planted a light kiss on her cheek.
"My bad."
Xavier admitted his mistake quickly and sincerely, making it hard for Grace to scold him.
"Forget it. Go back to sleep; it's still early."
Who knew how long it had been since Xavier had rested? He should sleep more while he could.
"Okay, but you have to sleep with me." Xavier didn't want to get up. Such moments were rare, and he just wanted to lie there with Grace, doing nothing.
Grace didn't want to get up either. It was a rare moment of leisure, and after last night's exertions, she didn't feel like moving.
So she lay there with Xavier for quite a while.
Xavier held her, burying his head in her neck. Grace didn't know if Xavier had fallen asleep, but she remained still.
It wasn't until almost ten o'clock that Grace and Xavier got out of bed.
Xavier went to the kitchen to make breakfast, while Grace went to study and work. She first messaged Angela, telling her about what had happened between them.
Angela replied, "Are you out of your mind?"
But then Angela added, "But as long as you like it, I support you. You don't even know, in those first few days after you came back, I wanted to go to Oakworth and drag Xavier back for you, then force him to be with you!"
Although she didn't want to see Grace get hurt, she would agree to anything Grace liked!
"Is it that exaggerated?" Grace replied with a smile.
Angela said, "Of course! I was really afraid you'd do something rash. But when I saw Xavier at your place last time, I knew it wouldn't be long before you two got back together."
"We're not officially back together yet."
"Don't I know you? Xavier controlling you is a piece of cake."
"Why is it him controlling me and not me controlling him?"
"Xavier is a big shot among big shots. He's not that easy to control. Grace, you have to protect yourself. You can't believe everything Xavier says. Men are not to be trusted."
"And you can't forgive him so easily. Things that come too easily won't be cherished. Could you treat him as someone you can bully? If he's sincere or not, please use him first. If you can bully him, do it hard. See if he's willing to lower himself for you."
"I know, Angela!"
Grace looked at her chat history with Angela. She didn't know if Xavier was reliable, but her good friend Angela certainly was.
