Chapter 670 Want to Take Possession

"Marcus!" Grace called upstairs, and soon enough, Marcus appeared.

"Hey, Mom! What's up? You guys done? Did that creep who tried to take you away leave already?"

"Yeah, he's gone."

"That fast? Mom, I told you he was no good. All talk, no action!"

Grace stayed quiet for a moment.

She had no idea where Marcus picked up these phrases, but she had called him down for a serious matter.

"Marcus, I need you to look someone up for me."

"Sure thing! Who are we checking out?"

"Thalassia, from Hugh Ramirez's gang. Goes by Killer."

"Got it!"

...

After leaving, Killer got back into his car and picked up his phone to call Hugh.

"Killer?" Hugh's voice came through. "What's going on over there? Matilda said she tried calling you but couldn't get through. She's been bugging me every day about coming to see you. It's driving me nuts. Your mission should be almost done, right? Hurry back."

Hugh sounded concerned for Killer, but in reality, he was impatient for progress.

Given Killer's usual speed, he should have completed the task by now.

Killer replied, "Almost done, but Mr. Ramirez, I don't think the candidate we've chosen for the next king is right for the job."

"Why? He's fully backing us. Once he's in power, he'll be our puppet, and our influence in Aetheria will expand completely."

"He's not the right choice."

This guy was never a good person to begin with. Killer hadn't cared about his previous actions, but his intentions toward Grace had made Killer reconsider.

"Who do you think is suitable then? As long as it doesn't mess up my plans, I don't care who takes the throne." Hugh was indifferent.

"I'll keep an eye out and try to wrap this up soon."

"Good." Hugh continued, "I heard Dorian is sick. Why not take this chance to eliminate him? He could be a future obstacle for us."

Dorian... He seemed to have a good relationship with Grace. If he died, Grace would be devastated, wouldn't she?

"What's wrong? Is there a problem?" Hugh asked when Killer didn't respond.

"No problem. It's just that Dorian has done a lot for Aetheria over the years. Killing him might cause dissatisfaction among the people, which could be troublesome for us."

Killer was making excuses; he didn't want Dorian to die.

Previously, he wouldn't have considered such things. He would have focused solely on completing his mission, ignoring everything else.

"That's a problem for later. Killer, since when did you start worrying about these things? Just do as I say and find a way to deal with Dorian. Handle the rest as you see fit."

Hugh only cared about achieving his goals, regardless of the process.

And the things he held would eventually be handed over to Killer. If Killer wanted to support his candidate, Hugh wouldn't object.

"Understood," Killer agreed.

It seemed Hugh was dead set on taking out Dorian. And as for Grace...

Maybe Dorian and Grace were just business partners, or maybe there was something more. Even if Grace were heartbroken, she'd eventually move on.

Hugh wasn't done talking. "Matilda keeps bringing you up. Give her a call when you get a chance; she's worried about you."

"I'm getting old. I've handed the gang over to you these past two years, and you've done a great job. Soon, everything will be yours. Killer, I have high hopes for you. Under your leadership, the gang will definitely grow even more." Hugh's tone was full of praise.

Over the years, Killer had done everything exceptionally well, and his sharp mind had elevated the gang to new heights.

Hugh's proudest achievement was taking Killer under his wing.

Killer understood Hugh's intentions and Matilda's as well.

Hugh was grooming him as his successor. He wouldn't hand his gang over to an outsider. If Killer wanted to inherit everything, he would have to become family.

The most direct way to become family was to marry Matilda.

In the past, Killer might not have cared about his marriage or his future. If he had to marry later, he wouldn't have minded.

But now, Killer felt a strong resistance within himself. He didn't want it.

His heart seemed to be occupied by someone else, making him care about things he previously didn't.

"Mr. Ramirez, you know my ambitions lie elsewhere." He had never been interested in the gang, always following Hugh's orders.

"Killer, you've always been smart. You know what choice to make. Everything I have will eventually be yours. Remember, I saved your life."

Hugh's voice was cold, carrying a threat.

He was reminding Killer of the gu worms in his body. If Killer disobeyed, he would never get the antidote.

"I understand."

Hugh hung up, and Killer returned to his hotel.

He sat in a chair, staring at his reflection in the mirror.

Hugh's call was a stark reminder of the dangers surrounding him.

His gang, his missions, were fraught with peril, and he could lose his life at any moment.

If Hugh discovered Grace's existence, he would undoubtedly target her. Hugh wouldn't hesitate, and Grace would be in grave danger.

Hugh might already be suspicious and could send people to Aetheria. If they reported anything to Hugh, it would spell disaster.

To ensure Grace's safety, the best course of action was to avoid contact with her, keeping her as far away from him as possible.

But between them...

Killer's breathing became labored, his heart aching. His mind was filled with thoughts of Grace, especially tonight's Grace. She was so beautiful, like a pure, flawless flower, unattainable, from a different world.

Perhaps because she was so perfect, he desperately wanted to reach out, even to possess her.
