Chapter 252 Is this your karma?

When Xavier's name came up, Grace froze. "I'm done with him."

"What?" Angela was shocked. "What do you mean 'done'?"

Grace just pressed her lips together, staying silent.

Angela looked at her seriously. "Are you for real? You and Xavier... over?"

"Didn't Xavier take you to a party just yesterday as his date? Do you know what it means to be his date? Xavier's never taken anyone to a party before. You're the only one!" Angela said.

"Don't lie to me. This painting is an antique, and this diamond is priceless. Didn't he give them to you?"

It seemed like everything was fine between Xavier and Grace just yesterday. What changed so fast?

No wonder Angela sensed something was off with Grace today. She should've been happy, but she wasn't.

"Did he hurt you?" Angela was, of course, on Grace's side.

Grace shook her head. "He's fine. We were never in the kind of relationship you think. There was never supposed to be anything between us."

"It doesn't matter. There are plenty of guys out there. I'll find you someone even better than Xavier!" Angela hugged Grace.

Angela knew Grace wasn't as impulsive as her; she was very cautious.

Angela had warned Grace not to fall for Xavier because being with him would be tough.

It's good they ended it now. At least Grace won't have to worry about people like Stephanie.

"If there's such a guy, you should keep him for yourself. I'm not in the mood. I want to make money," Grace said.

She wanted to earn a lot so she could spend on Xavier instead of the other way around.

Grace had recently learned a lot about finance and made some profitable investments.

"Alright, then I'll make money with you!" Angela said. She paused and suggested, "Why don't you skip work today?"

"Why?" Grace asked.

"People who break up need to relax. Spa or bar? How about the best male therapist?" Angela offered.

Grace thought, she and Xavier were never in a relationship, so there was no breakup.

"I don't want a spa or bar. I want to work, so I can support you!" Grace said.

Angela laughed. "Sure, I'm easy to support."

Grace was about to head to the office when her phone rang. It was Patrick.

Grace frowned, thinking, 'Why was Patrick calling?'

Worried it might be about her mom, she answered. Patrick's voice came through. "Grace, come to the hospital."

"Sorry, I have other things to do." Grace didn't know why Patrick wanted her at the hospital.

"Ryan was attacked last night. This has something to do with you, right?" Patrick asked.

"What attack?" Grace had no idea about this.

Didn't Ryan leave early last night? Even if he got attacked, it had nothing to do with her.

From Patrick's tone, it sounded like Ryan was in critical condition.

"Come to the hospital now, or I'll throw your mother's ashes away!" After that threat, Patrick hung up.

"What happened, Grace? What's going on?" Angela asked, worried.

"Ryan got beaten up last night. Patrick probably thinks I did it and wants me to go to the hospital," Grace said.

"Ryan got beaten? Is he still alive? Who's the hero?" Angela clapped her hands, delighted.

Ryan deserved it!

"I don't know. I'll go to the hospital and find out." Grace needed to clear her name since the Montgomery family might suspect her.

Angela said, "I'll go with you."

"No need, I'll go alone." The Montgomery family might be furious, and she didn't want to drag Angela into it.

"Be careful. If Patrick gets angry, don't let him push you around," Angela said.

"Of course. Thanks, Angela!" Grace said.

"No need to thank me. Just go," Angela replied.

Grace drove straight to the hospital Patrick mentioned.

In the hospital room, Amy was yelling, "We can't let Grace get away with this. She's definitely involved. What are you going to do for the rest of your life? It must be that Grace didn't want to marry you, so she did this to you. She was ruthless, almost crippled you!"

Grace heard the loud voice from outside. So they really thought she did it?

Grace knocked on the door and then pushed it open.

"Grace! How dare you come here!" Amy, agitated, glared at Grace.

She raised her hand to slap Grace, but Grace grabbed her wrist, causing Amy to wince in pain.

Grace looked coldly at the three people in the room. "Didn't you call me to come?"

She glanced at Ryan on the bed. He was pale and looked much more defeated than last night, with none of his previous arrogance.

Grace was just here to watch the show. If she were Ryan, she would conceal it and not let anyone know about this.

But Ryan seemed to want everyone to know.

She couldn't help but smile, even though she didn't want to.

"What happened? Is this your karma? Can't be a man anymore?" Grace asked.

Ryan's face darkened. He knew he shouldn't have called Grace over. Now she must be gloating over his misfortune!

"Let go of me!" Amy pulled her hand back.

"Grace, did you do this?" Amy directly accused Grace. She thought, 'This bitch, why wasn't it Grace who got hurt? She should be the one getting hit by a car or stabbed to death!'

Amy's eyes were full of hatred, as if Grace had done something extremely malicious.

"This has nothing to do with me," Grace said.

Amy didn't believe it and said, "If it has nothing to do with you, how did you know Ryan..."

Amy was too embarrassed to say it. Grace had just said Ryan couldn't be a man anymore. If Grace didn't know beforehand, how could she know?

In the phone call from Patrick, he merely mentioned that Ryan had been attacked, without elaborating on the nature of the injuries.

Grace said calmly, "If you speak any louder, not only will I hear it outside, but the whole hospital will know."
