Chapter 214 Grace Declared That She Was Xavier's Wife

An elderly woman was selling handmade accessories at a small stall. She looked quite old, and an old man was with her, looking like a happy couple.

Grace and Xavier stopped walking. Grace bent down. "I want to check this out."

Grace noticed some intricately woven rabbits and picked one up gently. "Did you make this, ma'am?" she asked.

The woman smiled and looked at her husaband. "He did. I'm clumsy, but he's been good at this since he was a kid."

"So, you and your husband have known each other since you were young?" Grace asked.

The woman replied, "We've known each other for over seventy years. He lived next door to me since we were kids, and I couldn't shake him off even after college."

Despite her words, she looked happy.

Grace smiled. "That's wonderful. You two seem so happy."

The woman smiled back. "You and your boyfriend look happy too. I'm sure you'll be like us, still happy together when you're old."

Grace was surprised. Xavier, her boyfriend? She quickly tried to explain, "He and I are not..."

Before she could finish, Xavier picked up a pink hair clip and put it in her hair, interrupting her.

"Why are you putting this on me?" Grace asked, trying to take it off.

Xavier stopped her. "It suits you."

Grace looked in a nearby mirror. Her long hair, usually tied up, was down, framing her face. The pink hair clip actually looked nice.

Xavier started trying other hair clips and accessories on her.

"I can't wear any more," Grace said, looking at her hands and head full of accessories.

Xavier looked satisfied and told the woman, "I'll buy all of these."

Grace was silent.

As Xavier paid, Grace began removing the accessories, except for the pink clip.

The woman smiled and wished them happiness. Grace tried to explain, "We're really not a couple."

But the sound of popcorn drowned her out.

"Let's go," Xavier called, already walking ahead. Grace hurried to catch up, unsure if he heard her.

Judging by Xavier's expression, he didn't seem upset when the woman thought they were a couple.

As they strolled around, they attracted attention. Many men noticed Grace, but Xavier's strong presence was intimidating. He looked aloof, clearly indicating that Grace was with him and no one else should think otherwise.

Xavier's king-like vibe kept other men at bay, so they just admired Grace from a distance.

For the girls, Xavier's cold and superior demeanor made them even more attractive. Some bold ones didn't even care that Grace was with him.

One girl, face flushed, gathered her courage and approached. "Hi, can I get your contact info?"

Xavier frowned and pulled Grace over, whispering in her ear, "You brought me here, so you should be responsible for my safety."

He was so close that it looked like they had something going on.

A shy girl might have backed off, but this girl was persistent. She still hoped that even if they were a couple, she might have a chance if they broke up.

Grace knew Xavier hated crowded places, and since she dragged him here, she had to handle it.

"Sorry, he's shy," Grace said.

"It's just contact info. You don't mind, right?"

Grace's frown deepened. Despite her polite manner, her refusal was clear.

"He's old-fashioned and doesn't like socializing," she said.

"Well, he must have a phone number, right?" The girl wouldn't give up.

Frustrated, Grace finally said, "He's married, has two kids, and a happy family. No plans to divorce. Got it?"

The girl glared at Grace. "Then who are you?"

Grace had pretended to be Xavier's girlfriend and wife before. She had even called him "darling" in the dressing room.

"Of course, I'm his wife. I'm possessive and don't like others getting my husband's contact info. If you have any decency, you should leave."

Reluctantly, the girl left.

As she dashed off, Grace sighed. Girls these days had guts, but they needed to read the room. When someone declines once or twice, it's best to respect that and move on.

"My wife? Possessive? You don't like others getting your husband's contact info?" Xavier repeated.

Grace felt a bit awkward hearing him repeat her words. Her ears tinged pink as she explained, "I was just improvising to get her to go. If I hadn't, she might not have budged."

"I just took advantage of the situation. You probably won't see her again, so it shouldn't matter!" Grace quickly changed the subject, smiling. Her eyes, reflecting the lights, were like fireworks, dazzling and bright.

She looked at Xavier, tilting her head slightly, her hair falling and covering half her face.

"You're so eye-catching. How about I buy you a mask to wear?" Grace said. Xavier's face was too handsome, too distracting, and should be hidden.

As night fell, the stars shone like diamonds in the sky, lighting up the darkness.

It was a bustling street, but in Xavier's eyes, there was only Grace's reflection.

If anyone should be wearing a mask, it should be her!
