Chapter 629 Acting President of DG Group
"Do I really have to sign this? Everything here belongs to Xavier. There's no proof he's dead or anything."
Grace didn't want it. She didn't need any inheritance.
The lawyer responded, "Ms. Lewis, you and Mr. Montgomery aren't married yet. If you don't sign, you can't legally manage the company. These assets aren't yours, and others could take them. Mr. Montgomery arranged this in advance, so for his sake, please sign."
Grace held the pen but couldn't bring herself to sign the documents.
Signing them would mean admitting Xavier was dead.
But she had no choice. Only by signing would she have the legal authority to manage DG Group.
At the company's entrance, Grace reluctantly signed her name.
When Xavier returned, she would give everything back to him!
Inside the DG Group Building, chaos reigned, and everyone was on edge.
"Is Mr. Montgomery really dead? What are we going to do? What about the company?"
"I heard all projects are on hold. The board plans to elect a new president. Mr. Turner has a high chance. They're holding a shareholders' meeting to decide our next president."
"I heard Mr. Turner wants to sell DG Group. Someone overseas offered a high price."
"You all know what kind of person Mr. Turner is. The company will definitely have problems under his leadership."
"We should know the result today. Mr. Turner has bought a lot of shares, holding over ten percent now. He's the largest shareholder since Mr. Montgomery's position is no longer unshakable. Who knew fate would play such a cruel joke?"
"What are we going to do? When Mr. Montgomery was here, the company benefits were great. As long as you worked hard, the future was bright."
"I don't know. I'm already looking for another job. I've been here since DG Group was founded. This place feels like my second home. I don't want to see the company fall apart."
"People like Mr. Montgomery are rare. If DG Group falls into someone else's hands, it's doomed. I miss Mr. Montgomery. He was like a pillar. Now that the pillar has fallen, our team is in disarray!"
Many people missed Xavier, even though most had never met him. They knew his brilliance and skills were unmatched.
Grace walked by, drawing some attention.
"Who is that woman? She's so beautiful."
"Isn't the person next to her the head of the legal department?"
"Look, they're heading to the president's private elevator!"
Everyone in the lobby watched them.
As the elevator ascended, Grace knew the shareholders were holding a meeting.
Xavier had no family, so no one was competing for the new leadership.
The shareholders held about thirty percent of the shares combined. Xavier held seventy percent of DG Group's shares.
The meeting room buzzed with chatter, and some people were already smiling.
"Since there are no objections, it's decided. Johnny Turner will temporarily replace Mr. Montgomery as acting president of DG Group until Mr. Montgomery returns. Any questions?"
They said "until Mr. Montgomery returns," but everyone knew Xavier wasn't coming back.
Though his body hadn't been found, he was presumed dead.
This was fate's way of giving DG Group to them.
"No objections."
"No issues here."
"We all agree."
It was all prearranged. This meeting was just a formality. Those who disagreed had either been bribed or prevented from attending.
So, everyone present was in agreement.
"Since there are no objections, Johnny Turner will be our acting president for the time being..."
"I object!"
A sudden voice interrupted, and the door swung open, cutting off the speaker.
Everyone turned to see who had spoken. Weren't the dissenters supposed to be held back? How did someone get in?
And it was a woman?
She looked familiar. Had they seen her before?
"Who are you? This is a DG Group shareholders' meeting. Are you a shareholder?"
"Of course." Grace walked in confidently.
Mason must have informed them. A secretary quickly moved Johnny's chair and placed a new one in its place.
Grace walked over and sat down.
She had put on makeup in the car to cover her dark circles, making her look more presentable. She knew she needed to be strong to deal with these people.
Her cold gaze swept over everyone. Grace would remember these people who tried to divide Xavier's assets in his absence. They were traitors!
"Who are you? What gives you the right to be here?" Johnny demanded.
Someone remembered, "I recall Mr. Montgomery bringing this woman to a high-level meeting once."
With that, others seemed to remember too. But so what? No one had taken Xavier's words seriously then.
Just a woman. Did she think she could command them?
"Mr. Montgomery is just missing. Isn't it too early to hold this meeting?" Grace's expression mirrored Xavier's, especially her icy eyes.
Her presence was commanding, almost as if Xavier himself were sitting there.
"It's been three or four days. If Xavier were alive, he'd have shown up by now. Why don't you bring Xavier here today? If he shows up, we'll pretend nothing happened. How about that?"
Johnny was fearless, knowing Xavier wouldn't return.
"Even if Xavier doesn't show up today, you have no right to be acting president." Grace coldly countered, unaffected by his words.
"If Xavier is gone, I'm the largest shareholder. Why shouldn't I be acting president? And you, just because Xavier brought you here once, doesn't mean you have a say in DG Group. Security, throw this woman out!"
