Chapter 592 He Still Has a Backup Plan
"Hey, what's up with you and my cousin? You two seem pretty tight."
"Tight? Are you kidding? Didn't you see us bickering all day?"
"I think you do."
"Grace, you seriously need glasses! Besides, we're in a contract marriage. In a few months, we're getting divorced."
Grace lay on her side, eyeing Angela. "Do you really want to divorce my cousin?"
Angela hesitated before answering, "It's not about wanting or not wanting. We agreed to this from the start; the plan was always to get divorced."
"You hesitated. You don't really want to, do you?" Grace caught Angela's pause.
Angela replied, "No, I don't. Why wouldn't I want to be single? It's awesome! I can date young, hot guys without any hassle!"
"I think you do. My cousin's not a bad guy, and he's not that annoying. Maybe you two are one of those couples who fall in love after marriage."
Angela almost buried herself in the blanket.
"Stop talking about me. Let's sleep, okay? Sleep, sleep!"
Grace buried her head too, and the two of them laughed together.
...
Jared's legitimate businesses were almost wiped out by Xavier and the Coleman family working together. Although these weren't his main sources of income, they were crucial for laundering money.
Now Xavier was conducting a thorough search throughout Oakworth, and he found out that Xavier had captured Jane. It seemed that everything from the past had been exposed.
If he had known, he would have killed Jane. She was always a liability, stupid since childhood, like she had no brain.
If it weren't for him, Jane wouldn't be in her current position, wouldn't have married Dorian.
And now, Jane dared to betray him.
He regretted being a step too late. Now, these people wanted him dead, and he had to find another way to gain leverage.
He needed to threaten them so they wouldn't dare touch him.
Fortunately, he had leverage against both the Coleman family and Xavier.
Jared always liked to control the situation, keeping everything in his hands.
He was hiding out in a less-than-ideal hotel.
He picked up his phone and made a call.
A woman quickly answered the call. "Hello?"
"Brittany Lewis," Jared said directly.
"How do you know it's me? Who are you?" Brittany's heart skipped a beat upon hearing the voice.
Even without seeing him, just hearing his voice made her feel a chill down her spine.
"I just want to make a deal with you. I know your situation is tough right now. The Lewis family is down to just you, right? You had a good life, but now you have nothing. Don't you hate Grace?"
Hearing Grace's name, Brittany tensed up. "Who are you? What do you want?"
"Who I am doesn't matter. I know you want to get close to Xavier, but Xavier only has eyes for Grace. You tried to approach Sterling, but he doesn't want you either; he only cares about Grace. And the Coleman family backs Grace. From childhood to now, as long as Grace is around, no one sees you."
"That's ridiculous! I'm a thousand times better than Grace. What is Grace anyway?" Brittany couldn't stand being compared to Grace.
It was absurd. She was the best. Grace was just a regular college graduate, while she had attended prestigious universities abroad!
"So what? Your jealousy of Grace is useless. With your abilities, do you think you can do anything to Grace?" Jared continued to exploit Brittany's hatred for Grace.
"What do you want? What are you trying to say? If you don't get to the point, I'm hanging up!" Brittany was at her limit.
Jared said, "If you help me with one thing, I'll grant you one request. You can ask for money, power, anything—even to kill Grace."
"I don't even know who you are. Why should I trust you?"
"My name is Jared Peterson. You have no choice. I can take your life anytime. Help me, and you'll be handsomely rewarded."
Brittany quickly thought it over and agreed. "How can I help you?"
Jared quickly explained his plan to Brittany. After listening, Brittany said, "Will this work? Xavier won't care about my life."
"Don't worry, he will." Jared's eyes gleamed with determination.
After Brittany made her arrangements, Jared also set up his people around the Coleman Villa in Skigeth.
If he couldn't get them in, he would find a way to bribe them.
Everything had to be under his control.
...
Two days later, Angela had nothing to do and decided to return to Skigeth.
Grace planned to go back with Angela. Her cousins said Oakworth wasn't safe.
Xavier wanted her to stay but respected her decision.
Steven said, "It's better to go to Skigeth. Jared is here, and it's hard to feel safe."
Grace thought it over and decided to go to Skigeth.
Upon hearing that Grace was leaving, Dorian came over. "Can I go to Skigeth with you?"
He wanted to see the city that Elizabeth had chosen.
Just hearing the name, Skigeth sounded beautiful.
He wanted to see where Elizabeth had lived.
"Of course, but won't it be a problem if you don't return to Aetheria?"
As a king, his presence was crucial. What if something happened in Aetheria while he was away?
"I've taken a two-week leave. I'll handle work remotely." Dorian had everything arranged.
"Can Mr. Montgomery release Jane? I'll have her sent back. Don't worry, I'll have people watch her. She won't dare do anything."
Xavier looked at Grace, and after she nodded, he said, "Okay."
Jane hadn't been in good shape these past few days. Though they hadn't scared her further, she was already frightened, thinking Elizabeth's ghost was still around, becoming paranoid and mentally unstable.
Xavier released her, and Dorian immediately arranged a private jet to send Jane back secretly.
Robert didn't know about this, thinking his sister was returning from a trip.
With Dorian around, Robert wouldn't suspect much.
Knowing Grace was going back to Skigeth, Robert said, "Can I go with you? Last time, I didn't get to explore Skigeth properly. I want to see this beautiful city."
