Chapter 168 Was Grace Jealous?
Xavier claimed he had no fiancée and no girlfriend, yet he still maintained ambiguous relationships with so many women.
Grace said, "Xavier, I'm not that kind of woman. I think we..."
"Something is on your face," Xavier interrupted.
Grace looked puzzled.
"Hand out your hand."
Grace extended her hand, and Xavier placed a piece of fluff, which had seemingly floated from nowhere, into her palm.
His slightly cool fingertips brushed against her palm, causing her hand to flinch and a shiver to run through her entire body.
There really was something there; she had thought Xavier was trying to...
"Thank you, Xavier. If there's nothing else, I'll be going now."
"It's not done yet," Xavier uttered.
"Maybe I should just go home. I was planning to leave anyway," Grace said, feeling like she was sitting on pins and needles, her legs trembling slightly.
"Don't move," Xavier's voice brooked no argument.
Out of the corner of her eye, Grace saw Xavier's face. He seemed very serious, as if he were about to undertake some significant task.
'How could there be so much fluff on my face?'Grace murmured inwardly.
She sat upright, feeling as if her ear was gently touched, something cool passing through it.
Xavier withdrew his hand, and Grace touched her ear, finding an earring there.
The earring was cool, but Grace's ear felt burning hot.
"What is this?"
"A gift for you," Xavier said nonchalantly.
He looked at Grace's profile. Her facial features were exquisite, and even the dark foundation couldn't mask her features. Especially in the dim light, the lines of her profile were particularly clear.
The earring dangled, complementing Grace's slender neck.
Her appearance was cold and serene, and her eyes were clear even in the dark. The earring suited her perfectly.
The moment Xavier saw the earring, he knew it would look great on Grace.
"A gift for me? Why are you giving me this?" Grace felt a bit overwhelmed, feeling she hadn't done anything to deserve it.
"Take it a thank you for the massage and all the food you gave me."
"But the food I gave you isn't worth much. This is too expensive; I can't accept it," Grace rejected.
Although she hadn't seen it clearly, she knew that whatever he gave wouldn't come cheap.
As she spoke, Grace intended to take it off.
"It was just a casual purchase, not something expensive," Xavier said.
"Did you buy this yesterday?" Grace asked.
Xavier nodded. "Yes."
He had only had time to shop with Stephanie yesterday.
It was a coincidence that he saw it and bought it.
Regarding the million dollars, Xavier didn't bring it up; to him, it wasn't a substantial sum.
Suitability was more important than price.
Grace lowered her eyes, pondering, 'So, he bought it yesterday while shopping with Stephanie. It was a jewelry store.'
It was rare that while shopping with another woman, Xavier still thought of her.
Grace recalled that Xavier had also given her a famous painting before.
It felt as if she were just a hidden mistress kept by him.
She and Xavier were not in that kind of relationship; he didn't need to give her anything.
"Thank you for the gesture, but I can't accept it," Grace said, taking off the earring and handing it back to him.
With that, Grace opened the car door and got out.
Just as she closed the door, a delicate box was thrown out of the car window, landing on Grace's bag.
"Once I give something, I don't take it back. If you don't like it, just throw it away."
"Drive!" Xavier commanded, his tone icy.
Sensing the tense atmosphere, the driver quickly started the car.
He glanced at Xavier in the rearview mirror, thinking that Grace's refusal would surely anger Xavier.
Xavier merely lowered his eyes, gazing at the pile of candies, and even picked one up.
Xavier rarely indulged in such snacks, though he actually had a fondness for sweets—a fact known to no one.
In his childhood, life had been tough, and his mother would buy him candy, saying that eating sweets would make the bitterness go away.
Before his mother left, she had even left him with a lot of candy.
But since then, he had never tasted candy again.
When Grace placed the candies before him, it was as if she was carefully offering her heartfelt sentiments, giving them to him without reservation.
Xavier picked up a piece of candy, unwrapped it, and put it in his mouth.
It was very sweet, so sweet that it seemed to soften his heart.
Before long, the car stopped at the entrance of the Bameran villa, and the driver said, "Mr. Montgomery, when in the lounge, Ms. Lewis was holding her phone, it seemed like she was taking pictures of you."
Although Grace had asked him not to tell Xavier, the driver felt obliged to inform Xavier, who was, after all, his boss.
Xavier's lips curved slightly. "I know."
The driver was surprised. 'He knew that?'
In fact, Xavier had woken up when Grace had been staring at him.
He was a light sleeper, and her gaze had been too intense to ignore.
He had merely pretended to be asleep.
When the driver arrived, he stopped pretending.
Under the driver's still-shocked gaze, Xavier gathered all the candies and took them with him as he got out of the car.
The driver was puzzled.'Doesn't he typically dislike such things?'
"Mr. Montgomery," a voice called from a distance. It was Mason.
Mason had arrived at the Bameran villa ahead of them.
Xavier, carrying the items Grace had given him, walked inside, with Mason following.
"Who told you to call her over without my permission?" Xavier's words were accusatory but not particularly angry.
Mason rubbed his nose, apologizing, "My mistake."
He had thought that Xavier's earlier look clearly showed he wanted Grace to come over.
"Just this once," Xavier said and walked into the Bameran villa.
Mason, trailing behind, pondered the meaning of Xavier's words.
He knew Xavier better than anyone in the world. If Xavier had spoken in a very cold and indifferent tone, it would mean there truly wouldn't be a next time.
But with the tone Xavier had just used, it only meant that there could be a next time.
Sometimes, Xavier could be quite contradictory.
"By the way, Mr. Montgomery, I chatted with Ms. Lewis for a bit at the airport. It seems she knows about you accompanying Ms. Park shopping yesterday," Mason added.
Xavier halted, and his eyes turned icy. "Why didn't you mention this earlier?"
'She saw me yesterday? She didn't want the earring because she thought it was bought for Stephanie?' He wondered.
"Sorry, I just remembered that," Mason apologized.
Xavier said, "If you give a woman a gift but she refuses it because she thinks it was bought for another woman, what does that mean?"
Mason instantly understood that Xavier had given Grace something, and Grace had found out about him shopping with Stephanie, so she didn't accept it.
"Mr. Montgomery, girls get jealous very easily," replied Mason.
A flicker of joy passed through Xavier's deep eyes, a ripple of emotion crossing his gaze.
'So, Grace was jealous?'
