Chapter 020 Let's Spice Things Up
"Happy now?" Tom asked, as he observed as Grace stowed away the signed contract satisfactorily into her bag. "Now it's just the two of us. You know, I thought you were beautiful last night."
Grace replied, "Well, Mr. Reed, you have quite a unique taste. You're the first one to call me beautiful."
Tom wasn't really into her looks. She wasn't his usual type but he couldn't deny her figure, plus he was helping Kelly. After all the women he'd been with, one more wouldn't make a difference, even if she wasn't his type. As long as he had fun, that was all that mattered.
Tom grabbed Grace's wrist and led her towards the bathroom. "Let's not waste time. How about we start with a shower?"
Pulling Grace under the showerhead, Tom turned on the water and instantly soaked her clothes. Wearing only a plain white shirt, it clung to her skin, revealing her curves. Tom had to stop himself from drooling.
Grace quickly grabbed a towel from nearby and draped it over her shoulders to cover herself.
"Mr. Reed, no need to rush. There are so many accessories here. Why don’t we try something more thrilling?" Grace suggested.
"Oh, I do like it thrilling," Tom said with a grin that had a hint of mischief.
Her appearance might not have been much, but her voice was truly captivating, sending his mind wandering.
"I guess with my face, you might not be fully into it, Mr. Reed. Maybe I should blindfold you first?" grace suggested.
"That’s an interesting way to play. I'm game," Tom said, excitedly.
Grace fetched a ribbon and tied it around Tom's eyes to blindfold him.
"Mr. Reed, you are a married man. Is this appropriate?" Grace teased.
Meanwhile, the screen on Grace's phone flickered on the side.
"I can’t be compared to those at home, and she surely can't keep me in line!" boasted Tom.
When Grace had jokingly raised the concern about getting pregnant after a “too-exciting night”, she reminded Tom, "Didn't a couple of your mistresses end up pregnant, and you handled it all right?"
Tom was elated and unapologetically honest, "Don't worry, if you get pregnant, I'll take care of you. I can afford one more."
"Looks like Mr. Reed has been straying quite a bit, huh?" she remarked.
"Naturally, what man doesn't stray?" Tom boasted, clearly proud of his affairs.
Satisfied with the response, Grace stealthily recorded their conversation and saved it. She then baited him with a game, "Mr. Reed, I'm going to step out, and then you come after me. If you catch me, you can do whatever you like, okay? Whatever Mr. Reed wants to play, I'm game."
"What if you run away?" Tom quipped, lustful yet not entirely foolish.
"We're in a partnership now, I wouldn't just disappear," Grace assured him.
Tom saw the logic in her words, "Okay."
Timing her departure, Grace left the room. Soon after, a woman burst into the room, entering with haste.
In the meantime, Tom, stripped of his clothes and blindfolded with a ribbon, waited in vain for any sound. Growing impatient, he emerged from the bathroom.
"Baby, where are you? I'm coming to get you, honey!" he called out, hands groping around.
As he wondered whether Grace had fled, perhaps outplaying him, he suddenly touched someone.
Tom smirked, "Baby, I knew you'd be here. Silent so I wouldn't find you, huh?"
He grabbed her, tearing at her clothes and planting fierce kisses. If his eyes weren't covered, he would have seen the disgust on the woman's face. A hard slap struck Tom's face, leaving him dazed.
"Tom, take a good look at who I am!" the woman demanded.
Ripping off his blindfold, Tom faced his worst fear, nearly paralyzed with fright.
"Honey, why are you here? Let me explain!" he stammered.
Laura, his wife, did not wait for explanations, hurling objects at Tom in fury, "You cheat and have the nerve to father illegitimate children. Do you want to die? You think you're such a big shot? If it weren't for me, you'd be nothing!"
Screams filled the room, akin to a pig being slaughtered. Meanwhile, Grace had sent the recordings of Tom's betrayal to his wife Laura. She had also given Laura a heads-up.
Grace had carefully planned this confrontation at the hotel after investigating Tom's misdeeds and knowing his fear of his wife's wrath.
As the drama unfolded, Grace decided she'd seen enough; she was more inclined to rest peacefully than to watch the spectacle.
As she was about to leave, the elevator doors opened, revealing a man she had met only fifteen minutes earlier, appearing on a floor where he certainly wasn't expected.
Grace saw Xavier emerge from the elevator with a face as dark as thunder, his steps quickening as he heard the screams coming from the room. The door wasn't properly closed, and with one swift kick, Xavier flung it open.
"Grace!"
Inside the room, Laura was still beating the tar out of Tom, and there was no sign of Grace.
"Mr. Montgomery, are you looking for me? I'm right here!" Grace's voice came from behind.
As Xavier turned around, he saw Grace approaching from the staircase. She was wrapped in a bath towel, her hair still damp. Grace walked over and grabbed Xavier's wrist. "Let's get going, don't get in the way of domestic bliss!"
Tom, hearing Grace's voice, tried to struggle to his feet. "Grace, stop right there!"
But Laura gave him a firm slap. "Who else are you looking for now!" she yelled at him.
Grace, pulling Xavier along, reached the elevator. Underneath the bath towel, her face seemed especially small, her eyes brimming with mirth, "Mr. Montgomery, were you worried about me?"
Xavier grabbed Grace by the chin, a warning tone in his voice, "Grace, I've told you to take care of yourself. It seems you've not heeded my words?"
"How could I forget what you've said?" She tapped where her heart was, "It's remembered right here!"
"I did take care of myself. I was here to sign a contract, yesterday and today. My intentions are pure. It's Tom who had impure thoughts, so I called his wife over. His wife is fierce, and now he's the one suffering," Grace explained, proudly.
Xavier had nothing to say.
"Don't worry, Mr. Montgomery, I know my limits. I would never bring shame to the Montgomery family." Grace thought Xavier came because he was worried that she might tarnish the family's reputation.
"If there's nothing else, then I'll be going, Mr. Montgomery." She was about to press the button for the first floor when a large hand covered the elevator controls before she could touch them.
Grace looked up, puzzled, at Xavier. "Are you planning to go out like this?" he asked.
Grace looked down at herself; indeed, it was a bit of an unseemly sight. Besides, it was raining outside, and she'd get soaked anyway. Though, she'd been through more embarrassing situations.
Before Grace could speak up, Xavier had already pressed the button for the top floor. The elevator doors opened, and Xavier walked out without a word. Grace had no choice but to follow.
"There's the bathroom, go take a shower," he ordered.
"Mr. Montgomery, are you always this intense?" she exclaimed, taken aback by his immediate suggestion for her to take a shower upon arriving!
Xavier was somewhat at a loss for words.
"What are you thinking? If you catch a cold, don't blame me," he retorted, clearly disinterested in women, and even less so in Grace.
"Well, thank you so much for the concern!" Grace replied with a hint of sarcasm.
Grace headed for the bathroom and enjoyed a comfortable shower, lathering up using the hotel's milk-scented body wash that was both fragrant and sweet.
She realized that all her clothes were wet, and she had nothing else to wear, so she wrapped herself tightly in a bathrobe.
Just as she was about to leave the bathroom, Grace caught sight of her reflection in the mirror. Her eyes looked dewy and bright post-shower, and her long, dense eyelashes added to her charm. Her skin was naturally pale, now flushed pink from the hot water like ripened fruit, tempting to be picked.
Grace froze as she was reaching for the door handle, her face stiffening.
Darn it, she thought, she had washed her face while showering, and all that heavy foundation was gone, revealing her real face.
It would be disastrous if Xavier saw her like this, but without her makeup at hand, there was no way to touch up.
What to do?
