Chapter 405 Xavier Protects Her and Gets Injured
"Xavier, you..." Stephanie stammered, her eyes wide with fear as she saw Xavier standing there. She hadn't expected him to show up now.
Stephanie had planned to ruin Grace's face!
When Xavier turned around, Grace finally saw his back. Even though he was in a suit and shirt, a big chunk of both was burnt. His back looked awful, all charred and raw.
What Stephanie had thrown wasn't water; it was sulfuric acid.
If that acid had hit Grace's face, she could've been scarred for life.
"Get a doctor, now!" Grace shouted, snapping into action and telling everyone to find a doctor.
The resort had a medical room for emergencies, with top-notch doctors on call.
"Take off your clothes!" Grace tried to get Xavier's clothes off, tears streaming down her face.
Xavier's body went rigid at her touch. He looked down at her worried face.
"Don't cry, I'm okay." His voice was soft. He even wanted to wipe her tears away but knew he couldn't.
The smell of burnt fabric and acid made Grace feel sick.
She held it together and carefully took off Xavier's clothes, scared they might stick to his skin and make things worse. Her hands shook as she worked.
Xavier seemed oblivious to the pain, his gaze locked on Grace. He'd only dared to watch her from afar before. Now, she was right here, so close.
Soon, the doctor arrived and took Xavier to treat his burns, while the Coleman family restrained Stephanie.
The Coleman family members looked at Grace with concern. "Grace, are you okay?"
Once they saw Grace hadn't been hit by the acid, they relaxed.
"That woman is so evil, throwing acid. Thank goodness Grace is fine," Scott fumed.
"Don't worry, Grace, we won't let her get away with this," Thomas snapped.
Grace nodded. She hadn't thought Stephanie would be so crazy, using such a cruel method.
Grace couldn't stop thinking about Xavier holding her. If it weren't for him, she might be in the hospital now.
This was the first time she'd seen Xavier since their fallout in Oakworth.
Grace had thought she was over it, or that when she saw him again, she'd only feel hate.
But when Xavier held her and she saw his injuries, Grace realized her heart still ached for him. She had never really let him go, just buried those feelings deep down.
Loving someone was easy; letting go was the hard part.
Grace thought Xavier hated her, so she couldn't understand why he'd jump in to protect her from the acid. Her mind was spinning, wondering if it was some trick, if he was trying to use her, to win her back.
Grace couldn't eat dinner. Steven checked on Xavier and then came back, seeing Grace lost in thought.
"How is he?" Grace couldn't help but ask.
"Do you want to see him?" Steven replied.
Grace shook her head. "No, I don't."
"The acid was diluted, but it's still really corrosive. He got hurt," Steven said.
Grace's eyelashes fluttered. She pressed her lips together, "Serves him right! Steven, I need to rest."
"I'll walk you back," Steven said gently.
"No need, I can manage," Grace replied politely.
Steven still looked worried and added, "What if that woman has more tricks up her sleeve? I'll take you back."
Grace didn't argue and nodded.
Steven escorted Grace back to her room. It was still early, but Grace lay in bed, wrapping herself in the blanket.
Even though the room was well air-conditioned, Grace felt cold, like she was in an icebox, unable to warm up.
She didn't want to think about Xavier, but he was still in her mind, along with his words: "Don't cry."
Grace stayed awake, unable to sleep, until the dead of night, around three in the morning.
The resort had quieted down, with hardly anyone walking around outside.
Unable to sleep, Grace got up to take a walk and clear her head.
Without realizing it, she found herself near the resort's medical room.
She stood at the door for a while, not planning to go in. After standing there for so long, the on-duty doctor noticed her and asked, "Ma'am, are you feeling unwell?"
Grace shook her head and replied, "I'm fine."
The doctor went back to his work, seemingly writing a report.
Grace bit her lip and couldn't help but ask, "Doctor, the man brought in last night with burns… how is he? Has he been discharged?"
The doctor replied, "Not yet. He's still here. Are you a friend?"
Grace hesitated. After all, Xavier got hurt because of her. She should at least check on him.
In Grace's mind, Xavier might be asleep now, and she just wanted to take a quick look.
"Can I see him now?" Grace asked cautiously, staring at the doctor.
The doctor replied, "Go ahead. He seems to be asleep."
Hearing that Xavier was asleep, Grace felt more at ease.
In the ward, only a single desk lamp was lit. Xavier was lying face down on the bed, his back exposed.
The acid was highly corrosive, burning through his clothes and severely injuring his skin. He had been treated, but the wounds were still exposed.
Xavier was lying face down on the bed, seemingly asleep.
Grace knew Xavier was a light sleeper. She stood still at the door, not daring to move, ensuring he was asleep before tiptoeing in.
Xavier was so strapping that the small single bed looked cramped. The blanket only covered him up to his waist. She wondered if he was cold.
His body was still as fit as ever, his waist and abdomen looking strong. Grace knew how attractive his body was, exuding male hormones.
If Xavier wanted to deceive someone, it would be too easy for him, requiring no effort.
There was a small stool by the bed. Grace sat on it, quietly staring at Xavier.
Xavier's face was turned towards her, his features unchanged save for the evident weariness in his expression.
It felt like a long time had passed. When she was with Xavier, it seemed like years ago, yet also like yesterday, so close.
She remembered Xavier holding her, his rough kisses, and their tender moments.
She didn't notice Xavier's eyelashes flutter slightly. He was restraining himself from opening his eyes. Xavier wasn't asleep.
