Chapter 387 Realizing Something Was Wrong

"Hey, Mr. Coleman, watch your step," Grace said, glancing at the floor as she opened the door. She'd just noticed a wet spot and didn't want Chase to slip.

Wendy quickly threw on her sunglasses, her heart racing. What was Grace doing here? If Grace saw her eyes, she'd definitely figure something out.

But eating with sunglasses on? That'd be way too weird.

"Grace, what are you doing here?" Wendy asked, trying to keep her cool.

Wasn't Chase supposed to be missing? How did he end up with Grace?

What the heck was going on? And why had they brought her here, knowing she despised Grace?

Wendy blamed Grace and Kelly for ruining the Montgomery family, and now Grace was mixed up with Xavier. It was just too much.

"Just bumped into each other," Grace said, finally looking up at Wendy, surprised to see her still rocking the sunglasses.

"Wendy, this is your grandfather," Scott introduced.

Wendy looked at Chase, who didn't feel like a "grandpa" to her. She already had one, and this man was a stranger.

"Is she Elizabeth's daughter?" Chase asked, eyeing Wendy. He didn't feel any connection, just a sense of unfamiliarity.

He felt nothing for Wendy; instead, he was more drawn to Grace.

If Grace wasn't his granddaughter, he'd totally want her to marry his grandson.

"Yeah, Grandpa, this is Aunt Elizabeth's daughter. She was found and raised by the Montgomery family and goes by Wendy Montgomery now," Scott nodded.

Grace helped Chase inside and got him seated at the head of the table.

Wendy, who'd just been found, was supposed to sit next to Chase, and Steven on the other side.

Grace, being a last-minute invite, would naturally sit at the far end.

Grace felt a bit awkward about crashing the meal.

As Chase sat down and Grace was about to head to the far end, Chase pulled her back. "Grace, sit next to me. You all move over."

The three Coleman brothers readily shifted, though they were surprised at how much Chase liked Grace.

Even with Elizabeth's daughter found, it was clear Chase preferred Grace.

Wendy noticed too and bit her lip, fuming inside.

"Mr. Coleman, are you sure it's okay for me to sit here?" Grace asked.

Chase replied, "What's the problem? I told you to sit here."

Grace had no choice but to sit down, even though she could feel Wendy's icy stare.

Wendy muttered, "How shameless!"

Grace looked at Wendy and asked, "Wendy, are you really gonna eat with your sunglasses on?"

Wearing sunglasses at the table was super weird. It wasn't like Grace hadn't seen Wendy before. Unless Wendy had something going on with her eyes, there was no need for this. Plus, the winter sun wasn't that bright.

"Mind your own business, Grace. This is a Coleman family gathering. Who invited you?" Wendy snapped.

Grace didn't like Wendy's attitude either. Lately, Grace hadn't been in the best mood, and since Wendy wasn't being nice, she saw no reason to be polite.

"The Coleman family doesn't mind, so why do you?" Grace shot back.

"I..." Wendy stammered, clearly furious.

Grace pressed on, "Or are you wearing those sunglasses because you've got something to hide?"

Wendy's eyes widened behind her shades, panic setting in. "Shut up!"

"I was just asking. Why so jumpy?" Grace said coolly.

Wendy seemed to hit her breaking point and stood up abruptly.

She knew if Grace kept pushing, the Coleman family might start to suspect something. If they made her take off her sunglasses, her secret would be out.

Without Grace around, Wendy wouldn't need the sunglasses. After more than two months of recovery, her eyes had healed, no signs of plastic surgery.

"Seeing you makes me lose my appetite. I'm not eating!" Wendy snapped. She turned to the Coleman family. "And you guys, you said you'd take me to dinner, but you made me wait forever, saying Grandpa was missing. If it's such a strange place, can't you keep a closer eye on him? Don't expect me to have dinner with you again. You can all eat with her!"

With that, Wendy stormed out, leaving everyone in shock.

"I'll go check on her," Steven said, getting up.

But by the time he got outside, Wendy was already gone.

Steven had no choice but to return. Honestly, he didn't feel any connection to Wendy either. She had a bad temper and looked down on everyone.

Maybe it was because they weren't familiar enough yet.

"She's gone," Steven said, sitting back down.

They all exchanged glances, and Scott asked, "So, do we eat?"

"Grandpa..." Scott looked at Chase.

Wendy had thrown a fit as soon as she arrived, targeting Grace and blaming Chase for making her wait. Chase's first impression of Wendy wasn't great.

"Elizabeth's daughter wouldn't act like this. She's not Elizabeth's daughter!" Chase said angrily.

"Let's eat," Steven said.

Chase picked up his utensils and started serving Grace. "Grace, try this."

Chase gave Grace a lot of food, all of Elizabeth's favorites.

"Grandpa, those are Aunt Elizabeth's favorites. What if Grace doesn't like them?" Scott pointed out.

Grace smiled, "I like all of these. Thanks, Mr. Coleman."

Chase grinned and kept serving Grace.

The meal was warm and cozy, and Grace didn't feel like an outsider at all.

Grace was really happy. She felt like part of the Coleman family. Maybe it was because the Coleman family was so nice. The three Coleman brothers and Chase were all good people and treated her well.

Grace's bowl was piled high with food, and Chase kept serving her. Grace also used the communal utensils to serve Chase, recommending Skigeth's cuisine. She even mentioned that if she had the chance, she'd cook for Chase herself.

As they ate and chatted, something occurred to Grace. She asked, "When you saw Wendy at the airport, how did you recognize her as your aunt's daughter?"

Scott explained the situation, saying Wendy's eyes looked a lot like Elizabeth's.

Grace asked, "Do you think Wendy's eyes look like your aunt's?"

Scott nodded. "Yeah, definitely."

Grace frowned. "Do you think…Wendy's eyes and my eyes…look alike?" If her eyes resembled Elizabeth's, then Wendy's couldn't.
