Chapter 295 Grace's childhood fiancé was Xavier.

"What's up, Dad?" Ryan asked, noticing Patrick's freaked-out expression.

"What does Grace look like?" Patrick shot back.

Ryan replied, "She's the woman I've been searching for, the one I dream about. She's drop-dead gorgeous, like a goddess."

Ryan could still picture Grace's face perfectly; it haunted his dreams at night and filled his thoughts even in his most passionate moments with others.

Even though he hadn't seen her much, her image was burned into his brain, impossible to shake.

He was crazy jealous of Xavier, who got to have Grace, such a beautiful Grace.

If Grace were his, he thought he'd die of pleasure, and he'd be totally okay with that.

Patrick frowned. "Does anyone else know about this?"

Ryan said, "When I went there, Xavier was there too. He must've known for a while."

"Don't tell anyone else about this," Patrick said, looking dead serious.

"Why, Dad?" Ryan was confused.

Patrick said, "No reason, I've got my plans. Just keep quiet. Focus on your wedding; it's only a few days away. Behave yourself."

"Dad, I..." Ryan didn't want to marry Kelly at all. He was totally against it!

"Enough, get out!" Patrick was already losing his patience.

Hearing Patrick's angry tone, Ryan didn't dare to stick around and had to leave.

When Ryan went downstairs, he saw Kelly. Kelly stood up, "Ryan, why'd you drink so much? Want me to make you something to eat?"

"Get lost!" Ryan shouted.

Kelly hadn't planned to deal with Ryan, but now, with the whole thing about Grace's mom's ashes, she might need his help, so she decided to play nice.

Kelly said, "Ryan, not eating is bad for you, and you drank a lot. I had someone make you some hangover soup; it'll be ready soon." Kelly put on her sweet act again.

But seeing her like this made Ryan sick, and he straight-up puked.

Kelly was right next to him, and his nasty vomit splattered all over her.

Kelly's face froze, and she looked disgusted. The smell and sight were unbearable; it was too gross.

She was already feeling queasy from her pregnancy, and now she puked too. The two of them puking on each other was a scene too nasty to describe.

In the study, after Patrick was alone, he carefully locked the door, looking super cautious.

Then Patrick walked to the bookshelf and moved a couple of books.

There was a sound, like something had clicked into place.

Patrick squatted down, removed two books from below, revealing a hidden compartment in the otherwise smooth bookshelf, containing a small box.

Patrick took out the box, which held a crystal.

It was a crystal split into two halves, clear and of top-notch quality, obviously very valuable.

If Grace saw this crystal, she'd find it familiar because she had seen half of it from her mom. Unfortunately, the crystal disappeared later, and she never saw it again, not even among her mom's stuff.

Patrick picked up the crystal, and the scene that popped into his mind was the conversation between Evelyn and that woman.

"Take this half of the crystal; it's the engagement token for Xavier and Grace."

Patrick could never forget that scene, where Evelyn gave this half of the crystal to Xavier's mom.

When Xavier's mom first got brought back to the Montgomery family, she had zero support. Back then, the Lewis family and the Montgomery family were tight, and Zach even brought Evelyn over for a visit. But for some reason, Evelyn and Xavier's mom had a massive blowout.

After that, their relationship was super strained. Patrick later stumbled upon the fact that their beef was just for show.

In reality, Evelyn and Xavier's mom had become tight, like besties.

Evelyn likely pretended to be hostile to protect Xavier's mom, aware of her shaky status in the Montgomery family.

Evelyn had said, "After Grace and Xavier get hitched, take this crystal to this place, and there'll be something for them. I've already set it up. All you need is Grace's marriage certificate and the crystal."

Patrick remembered that scene, realizing that as long as someone married Grace, it didn't have to be Xavier.

After a ton of digging, he found out that Evelyn had a boatload of secrets.

Unfortunately, those secrets were buried deep, even he couldn't dig them up. It seemed to involve too many things. He only knew that with Grace's marriage certificate and this crystal, he could score a lot.

Patrick thought, 'These should belong to the Montgomery family. Xavier is an outsider, an illegitimate kid. Why should he get those things?'

So, after Xavier's mom met Evelyn, Patrick set up an "accident" to snag the crystal. The last person Xavier's mom saw was Evelyn.

Luck seemed to be on Patrick's side. After Evelyn's accident, he quietly swiped the other half of the crystal from the Lewis Manor.

Now, with the whole crystal in his hands, all he needed was Grace's marriage certificate to get those goodies.

Evelyn only mentioned an engagement, not specifying with whom. After Evelyn's death, Patrick took out the half of the crystal that should have been with Xavier's mom and told the Lewis family that Grace was engaged to Ryan.

The Lewis family bought it, never doubting it for a second, while Xavier had long split from the Montgomery family, so the engagement had long since become Ryan and Grace's deal.

But the marriage never happened. Now that Xavier was back, it stirred up a lot of drama.

Xavier had changed a lot. Patrick knew Xavier must have a reason for coming back. He wasn't sure if Xavier knew about the crystal and if he was also after marrying Grace.

But luckily, as long as the crystal was in his hands, Grace marrying Xavier was pointless.

Even if it wasn't Ryan, Grace couldn't marry Xavier because Patrick would never get those things if she did.

If Grace married another guy, Patrick might still be able to make some deals. But who else could he use?

Patrick stared at the crystal.

He heard that Xavier was also digging into his mom's death. He couldn't let Xavier trace it back to him.

He heard that Xavier had already found out that the last person his mom saw was Evelyn. But only Patrick knew what they talked about.

Maybe Patrick could use this. Xavier cared so much about his mom; he wouldn't believe Xavier would marry the daughter of his enemy.
