Chapter 590 Taking Out Mother's Ashes

Grace suddenly remembered something and said, "Hang on a sec!"

She walked over to a corner and grabbed a mahogany box, placing it in front of Dorian.

"This..." Dorian's voice caught in his throat.

He didn't know what was inside, but the moment he saw the box, his eyes filled with tears. His hands shook as he touched it, too scared to open it.

Grace gently urged him, "Go ahead, open it. You might want to see her."

Dorian couldn't fathom how much strength it took to open the box. Inside was a clear bottle filled with powder.

"These are my mom's ashes. She..." Grace's voice broke, and she couldn't continue as she looked at Dorian.

If two people who truly loved each other met again after more than twenty years, and one of them had become ashes, how painful would it be for the one still alive?

Even though Dorian couldn't remember that part of his life, Grace felt it was a form of torment and punishment for him.

After her mother's grave was desecrated by Patrick, the ashes were stolen and almost lost forever. Grace had kept her mother's ashes with her ever since, worried someone might use them for something sinister. This way, she could look at them whenever she missed her mom.

Dorian stared at the bottle, tears streaming down his face, his body trembling with immense pain. Grace couldn't bear to disturb him.

She opened the study door and left, giving Dorian the time and space he needed.

Inside Dorian's mind, it felt like an explosion of pain, as if something was trying to break through his nerves, but he couldn't remember anything. His body's instinctive reaction was overwhelming; just seeing the ashes made him lose control.

He knew that God had taken away his most precious memories, leaving him with nothing but pain and regret. His fingers turned pale from gripping the bottle, and the veins in his temples throbbed.

Why had a living person become just a handful of ashes? Why hadn't he come to Vesperia sooner to discover all this?

Now, Dorian was left with endless heartache.

...

Grace stepped out and saw several pairs of eyes staring at her. "What are you guys doing?"

"Grace, did Dorian do anything to you?"

"He's not a bad person. We just talked a bit."

Grace turned to Dominic. "Mr. Neville, will he ever remember?"

Dominic replied, "It's hard to say. He's been under hypnosis for a long time, with years of psychological suggestions. It's not something that can be undone in a day or two. The chances are slim, but not impossible. It all depends on future developments and fate."

Although seeing things from that time might help Dorian remember, there wasn't much related to Elizabeth except for Grace.

Dorian stayed in the study almost the entire day. Grace worried he might have fainted or something, so she quietly opened the door to check.

She saw Dorian sitting there, staring at the bottle, seemingly wanting some peace. She didn't disturb him.

By evening, Grace was about to knock on the door to ask if Dorian wanted to come out for dinner, but Dorian stood up and handed her the bottle.

"Please take care of this for me. I need to leave for a while."

"Why don't you stay for dinner first?" Grace tried to stop him, but Dorian left in a hurry.

Dinner was a quiet affair, with everyone having little appetite.

Xavier sat next to Grace, serving her food.

Grace had no appetite, but Xavier insisted, "Come on, open up."

"My cousins are here. I can eat by myself. I'm really not hungry; I'm full."

"You've barely eaten anything. Eat a bit more, please."

Grace reluctantly opened her mouth and ate a little, then Xavier made her drink half a bowl of soup.

Though the place was only a 3,000-square-foot apartment, it was spacious enough for everyone.

That night, everyone stayed over.

Xavier and Steven had things to discuss, so they gathered in another room.

"Jared is really slippery. We can't find him despite our numbers," Scott said.

"His businesses are all fake. Finding his real assets won't be easy. My contacts say they're all shell companies, clean on the surface but likely used for money laundering," Steven added, frowning.

"The priority is to catch him, but we have no leads."

Just then, Grace's voice came from behind, "How about I try?"

"No way!" The three men said in unison.

"I haven't even told you my plan yet. Why not?"

Xavier said, "No matter what the plan is, it's too dangerous."

He couldn't let Grace take the risk, even if it meant not catching Jared.

Grace walked over, "If Jared really wants to do something, he'll have a plan whether I'm at home or not. It's better if I try to lure him out. I might have something he wants, or I could pretend to acknowledge him as my father and contact him. We need to find him first."

"It's too dangerous," the three men disagreed.

"But using bait might work. Just not you. I'll do it," Xavier said, starting to arrange the plan.

They discussed until late at night before dispersing.

Xavier pulled Grace to rest, knowing they had more to do tomorrow.

With their wedding next month and preparations underway, they needed to try on the wedding dress.

Xavier had the dress designed and brought to the house, along with the designers for any adjustments.

The next morning, the house was bustling with activity.

Grace felt a surge of excitement as the staff arrived.

The designers hadn't arrived yet, but suddenly, a familiar and excited voice called out, "Grace!"
