Chapter 255 Why not Try Stand-up Comedy?

"No, I'm here with my mom for a check-up. Why are you at the hospital? Feeling unwell? Under the weather?" Omari asked, concerned.

Grace shook her head. "Nope, I'm just along for the ride."

"What's up?" Omari was curious, but Grace didn't want to explain.

"Grace, want to grab a meal later?" Omari asked.

Grace replied, "I need to get back to the office, so I can't. Is your mom okay? You should be with her."

Omari said, "She's fine, just a routine check-up. Let's have lunch. If you're uncomfortable with my mom around, I'll take her home first, and we can have lunch with Angela. How about that?"

Omari knew Grace would refuse if he suggested lunch alone, so he mentioned Angela.

"We planned lunch last time, but it didn't happen. This time, you can't say no," Omari insisted.

"I'm really sorry, Omari, I..."

"Mr. Turner, does she need to spell it out? She doesn't want to have lunch with you," Xavier's voice came from behind, making things awkward.

Omari was Angela's brother, and it wouldn't be good to strain their relationship. Plus, Omari was a nice guy, so Xavier's bluntness was a bit much.

"I didn't mean that, I just..." Grace started, but Xavier's intense gaze stopped her.

Grace felt the tension and shut her mouth.

"Weren't you leaving?" Grace asked, but didn't say the rest out loud.

"I need the clothes at your place later. I have an event this afternoon and need that outfit," Xavier said.

Grace didn't find it odd, though it was a bit strange. Why did he need that specific outfit?

To Omari, it sounded like Xavier had left clothes at Grace's place. He pondered, 'When did Xavier leave his clothes there? Did he spend the night there? And preparing clothes seemed like something a close family member or lover would do.'

"This afternoon? But they haven't been washed yet," Grace said.

"Then wash them now," Xavier replied.

"Okay, Omari, I really have to go. Let's talk next time. Bye!" Grace said, quickly saying goodbye. Xavier's return gave her an excuse to leave.

Xavier frowned at the words 'next time'.

Grace was about to get into her car when Xavier grabbed her wrist and pulled her towards his car. "Get in my car. It's faster."

But now that they were over, wouldn't it be inappropriate to ride together?

"My car..."

Before Grace could finish, Xavier said coldly, "Your car is broken."

"My car is broken?" Grace was surprised. She didn't know that.

Omari heard and said, "Grace, is your car broken? You've been busy and probably don't have time to fix it. Give me the keys, and I'll get it repaired. You can ride in my car now."

Xavier looked displeased. "Mr. Turner, do you prefer dancing attendance on someone or working as a mechanic? Why aren't you taking your mom home instead of playing chauffeur for Grace? If you want to be a mechanic, I can buy the Turner Group and let you indulge in it for the rest of your life."

Grace and Omari were both silent. Grace thought Xavier was being sharp-tongued. If she didn't get Xavier out of there soon, he might really offend Omari.

Grace waved to Omari. "No need to trouble you. I'll ride with him."

Omari looked at Grace and Xavier, sensing something off between them.

"Riding in his car is a bother, but riding in mine isn't?" Xavier asked.

Grace sighed. Should she get in or not?

"Get in the car!" Xavier ordered.

Grace had no choice but to get into Xavier's car. She glanced outside and saw Omari still watching her. The window rolled up, and the one-way glass made it impossible to see inside.

Xavier coldly said, "Are you acting out a love scene?"

Grace turned to him. "You're so good with words, why not try stand-up comedy?"

Xavier snorted and looked out the window.

Grace sensed Xavier's anger. She couldn't understand why he was angry. He was the one who said their relationship was over.

The whole ride, Xavier didn't say a word. He crossed his arms and stared coldly ahead. Grace leaned against the car window, staying as far away from Xavier as possible.

Xavier's eyebrows twitched, thinking, 'Am I some kind of beast that she had to stay so far away?'

The car soon arrived at Grace's apartment. Grace got out. "I'll wash the clothes right away, but drying them will take some time. You..."

"No need. Bring them to me next time when they're clean," Xavier interrupted coldly and instructed the driver, "Drive."

Grace was silent. He just asked for the clothes, and now he didn't want them. Why was Xavier so unpredictable? And delivering them next time meant she would have to see Xavier again?

Maybe after washing them, she should just send them directly to the Bameran villa.

Omari still felt that Grace and Xavier were strange but couldn't put his finger on it. Maybe Angela would know something?

Omari called Angela and asked her to have lunch together. Angela agreed. Omari said he had work at the company and asked the driver to take his mom home, then he drove to the restaurant.

Angela arrived quickly. "Omari, you ordered so much delicious food!"

"Yeah, have some more. You've lost like a ton of weight," Omari said, serving Angela some food.

"I haven't lost weight. I've actually gained weight. But I do like the food here," Angela said, eating heartily.

Omari had specifically chosen this restaurant because he knew Angela loved the food here.

"I took Mom to the hospital for a check-up today." After chatting for a while, Omari brought up the topic.

Talking about her mom made Angela's expression stiff, given their strained relationship.

"Is she okay?" Angela asked.

"She's fine, nothing serious. But I saw Grace at the hospital. Is she sick?" Omari asked.

Angela, eating, said, "Nope. Ryan is hospitalized."

Angela had called Grace earlier to ask about Ryan, and Grace had said, "Unfortunately, he's still alive."

"I also saw Xavier. They didn't seem to be getting along. Did he bully Grace?" Omari asked.

Mentioning Xavier made Angela angry. He left Grace with apparent ease, but how could Grace possibly move on so effortlessly? Grace had never liked another man in her life!

"I don't know. Don't mention him!" Angela said with anger.

Seeing Angela's strong reaction, Omari knew something was up. Did this mean he had another chance?
