Chapter 374 I'll Give You a Chance, Kill Me

Stephanie watched Xavier walk away, a sly smile spreading across her face.

Finally, she had what she wanted. A rush of joy surged through her.

Ever since she was a kid, Stephanie had dreamed of marrying Xavier and spending her life with him.

Sure, she lost Joseph, but he would've left eventually. Totally worth the trade.

She couldn't wait to see Grace's smug face crumble.

Just then, her phone buzzed.

"Why are you calling me now?" she snapped.

"Stephanie, you got what you wanted, right? Don't forget what we agreed," a nervous voice said on the other end.

"Chill," Stephanie said, rolling her eyes.

"Xavier's gonna dig into this. You sure he won't trace it back to us?" her partner asked, sounding worried.

"You haven't shown much ambition at the company. The ones sweating bullets are the others. Wasn't your whole plan to use them as a front? It's got nothing to do with us. Even if Xavier investigates, he'll only find them. When the time comes, we'll arrange an 'accident' for them," Stephanie reassured.

The person chuckled, "Ms. Park, you're a real piece of work, you know that? Those shareholders thought they were so clever, underestimating you. Biggest mistake of their lives."

Joseph was a tough guy, and his granddaughter was no different.

Stephanie smirked, "And you're no saint either. Last time you poisoned someone, and they never traced it back to you."

This caller wasn't a big shot at the company, just a minor shareholder. Stephanie kept him around because he was sharp. They were cut from the same cloth.

In the company, he was just a small fry, so no one would suspect him.

Even though they were pulling the strings, the ambitious shareholders were the ones making moves. Xavier would only find them.

Once Xavier dealt with those suspects, they'd just sit back and enjoy the show.

Stephanie was even less likely to get caught. No one would suspect her, given how close she was to Joseph.

Xavier left the hospital room. There was still a lot to handle, like Joseph's funeral, which needed his help.

After all, Xavier was involved in Joseph's shooting.

And then there was Grace. He didn't know how to face her. Thinking of her smile and bright eyes made his heart feel like it was being squeezed by a giant hand, his chest aching with pain, numbing him inside.

Xavier felt like he was suffocating, terrified he was about to lose Grace.

The usually cool and collected Xavier was, for the first time, lost and unable to react.

He never realized his feelings for Grace ran so deep. Why was life playing such a cruel joke on him?

He leaned against the wall for a while until Mason approached, handing him a new phone.

Xavier asked coldly, "Did you find out about those people from last night?"

Mason nodded, "Yeah, they were hired mercenaries. The person who hired them is the largest shareholder of the Park Group, aside from Joseph. Probably because Mr. Park had been in frequent contact with you recently, it seemed like he wanted to hand the company over to you. So they got anxious and arranged for this group of people. Their target was likely you."

"They thought that by getting rid of you, they'd remove the biggest obstacle, and no one would compete with them. With Mr. Park's time running out, the company would naturally fall into their hands. During this time, he had already acquired quite a few scattered shares, making him the largest shareholder in the company. They didn't expect Joseph to return with you, resulting in Joseph's death," Mason explained.

Xavier's head pounded like someone was jabbing a needle into his brain. "Did you catch the mastermind?"

Mason nodded, "Yeah, he's at the police station."

"Got it. Get some people over here. Joseph's gone," Xavier instructed.

Mason hesitated for a second, "Alright, I'll make sure his funeral is handled properly. By the way, Mr. Montgomery, Ms. Lewis called me last night. She couldn't reach you. I didn't tell her about this. Do you want to call her back?"

Just hearing Grace's name felt like a knife twisting in Xavier's heart.

He had no idea how to face her or explain what had happened.

"I'll handle it," Xavier said. He needed to figure out the best way to break the news to Grace without hurting her too much.

Mason added, "One more thing, the Montgomery family's crystal has been retrieved. Our guys searched for a long time and finally found it in Patrick's study. It's been successfully brought out. I'll have it sent over later."

"Good," Xavier nodded. That crystal belonged to Grace and should be with her.

Mason could tell something was off in Xavier's voice, probably because Joseph's death had hit him hard.

After all, Joseph had died saving Xavier. He must be feeling awful inside, though Mason didn't know all the details.

Xavier quickly freshened up at the hospital, changed into the clean clothes Mason had brought, and headed straight to the police station.

The shareholder had already been arrested. He had no clue he was just a pawn, nor did he know Stephanie's and the others' true intentions.

He looked terrified as Xavier approached, step by step. Xavier exuded a menacing aura, his eyes bloodshot from a sleepless night.

Just standing there, cold and expressionless, was enough to make the shareholder almost collapse in fear.

"Are you the one who wants me dead?" Xavier asked coldly, his gaze piercing through the shareholder.

"I was foolish, Mr. Montgomery. I won't do it again. Please, spare me!" The man's face turned pale, like he was facing a death sentence.

He had hired professional mercenaries who assured him there would be no problem. They had guns and were confident they could kill Xavier. Once Xavier was out of the picture, with no other heir, the company would be his.

Stephanie didn't seem like someone who could run the company. Even if she had all of Joseph's shares, he figured he could still take them.

They hadn't anticipated Xavier would be so formidable, disarming them and resulting in Joseph's death while Xavier survived.

Thinking Xavier was here to cause trouble, the shareholder was shocked when Xavier walked past him and said, "I'll give you a chance. Kill me."

"What?" The shareholder was stunned, thinking he had misheard.

Even when the gun was handed to him, he realized Xavier was serious.

It was the gun Xavier had used last night, which he hadn't had time to hand over. He had been carrying it for the past few hours.

The shareholder couldn't figure out why Xavier was doing this. This was the police station; he couldn't possibly...

The shareholder immediately knelt, dropping the gun, which clattered to the ground with a crisp sound. He begged, "Mr. Montgomery, please spare me, or just give me a quick death. I was misled. I wanted the Park Group's shares, so I took this desperate measure."

Xavier looked down at him, his expression unreadable. He wasn't joking, not entirely. Part of him, a dark, twisted part, almost wanted the shareholder to pull the trigger.
