Chapter 203 Grace Seems to Have Fallen for Xavier
Grace picked at her food, barely eating before losing her appetite. Still, she saved the leftovers in the fridge, hoping to reheat them the next day.
Feeling a bit better, Xavier suggested she lie down, but she couldn't sleep.
"Xavier, since you're here, I have a few questions."
"Sure, go ahead."
Xavier expected serious questions, but Grace brought over two books and pointed at the pages. "I don't get these parts. I looked them up but I'm still confused."
She had planned to ask someone knowledgeable, and with Xavier, the business whiz, right there, it was perfect timing.
Xavier glanced at the pages and immediately understood her confusion.
These were advanced trading techniques. He explained them simply, and Grace quickly caught on.
Grace asked more questions, listening closely and taking notes. Xavier sat while she stood, and as she leaned over to write, causing her head to brush against Xavier's chin.
Xavier caught a whiff of her subtle fragrance and, looking down, saw her focused profile. Her small face, refined features, and slightly pursed lips were so serious that he couldn't look away.
Seeing Grace so dedicated stirred something in Xavier.
"Is this right?" Grace asked, looking up and catching his gaze.
Their eyes met, sending a shiver through both of them.
Xavier quickly looked away, tapping the table. "Why are you reading these books?"
Grace shrugged. "Learning more never hurts. Education never really ends."
She had discovered a passion for finance after studying it.
"Grab a chair and sit down," Xavier said.
Grace pulled up a chair and sat next to him.
Opportunities to learn from Xavier were rare, especially in finance. Luckily, he was willing to share his wisdom. While the principles stayed the same, it was up to her to adapt, navigate different scenarios, and grow from the experience.
Xavier, pen in hand, circled key points and jotted down important terms to help Grace understand better.
As she watched him write, she pointed to a term. "Can you rewrite this?"
Xavier annotated it for her.
Grace's eyes widened. "So you wrote all these notes!"
"Yes," Xavier replied.
His penmanship was elegant and precise, each stroke beautiful.
Grace had thought Mason wrote the notes, but it was Xavier. This showed he had read the book before; his knowledge was impressive.
Grace nibbled on her pen, engrossed in Xavier's explanations. He didn't just teach from the book; he used real-life examples and current scenarios to make the concepts clear.
Time flew by, and Grace was still focused when Xavier closed the laptop and book.
"Are you done?" Grace asked.
"It's eight o'clock; you should rest," Xavier said.
Grace looked at the clock. Time had flown by.
She thought it was still early, but Xavier stood up, looking like he was about to leave.
"Are you leaving?" Grace asked, her eyes bright.
To Xavier, it seemed like she wanted him to stay. His heart skipped a beat. "Go lie down."
"Then I won't see you off. Thanks for today."
Grace went to her bedroom, lying in bed under the soft glow of a bedside lamp. She couldn't sleep, her mind racing. She felt guilty for taking up Xavier's whole afternoon.
Just as she was about to get up and grab her book, the door opened.
Xavier walked in with a glass of water, his sleeves rolled up, showing his muscular forearms and a wrist chain. He also had a packet of medicine.
Grace blinked, making sure she wasn't dreaming.
"Aren't you leaving?"
Xavier handed her the medicine. "Take this."
Grace took the medicine and swallowed it with a sip of water.
Against the light, Xavier seemed to glow. He didn't have his usual intimidating aura; his eyes were deep and gentle.
"Sleep now. I'll leave after you fall asleep." His gentle eyes seemed to envelop Grace, making her feel warm and safe. The light above felt scorching, like it was consuming her.
All she could hear was her own heartbeat. She couldn't bring herself to look at Xavier. In a swift, she pulled the blanket over her head, seeking comfort.
"Then I'll sleep now," she said from under the blanket.
Under the blanket, her heart pounded. She told herself not to fall for Xavier, but some things were beyond control.
No wonder so many women liked Xavier. Grace hadn't understood before, but now she did. He was truly wonderful.
Despite her chaotic thoughts, she soon felt drowsy. Maybe the medicine was making her sleepy. Her consciousness blurred, and she fell asleep.
Xavier pulled the blanket down from her face to help her breathe, then turned off the lamp.
When Grace woke up, it was the middle of the night. The room was empty; Xavier had left.
Now she couldn't sleep. She sat up, thinking about Xavier.
She took out her phone and opened the photo album. Unlike most, she didn't have many selfies or scenic shots. Her gallery was mostly contract documents and business stuff.
So it was easy to spot an out-of-place photo.
She clicked on it. It was a picture of Xavier sleeping, his eyes closed.
She had secretly taken it at the airport last time. Looking at Xavier's peaceful face now stirred a warmth in her. It felt like a playful kitten clawing at her heart, making her feel both joyful and tender.
