Chapter 324 Drugging Him with an Aphrodisiac
Xavier was chillin' at the head of the table, and everyone else was so uptight they barely dared to breathe.
Normally, the waiter would be pouring the wine, but now it was another shareholder, trying way too hard. "Mr. Montgomery, you gotta try this wine. I've been saving it for ages."
But Xavier just straight-up ignored him. When Xavier didn't react, the guy's face fell.
Realizing the sweet talk wasn't working, they switched it up. "Mr. Montgomery, getting a dinner date with you is no easy task. You're always so busy, yet you still find time to manage other people's companies. That's pretty impressive."
He was buttering him up, but really, he was saying Xavier was sticking his nose where it didn't belong.
Xavier stayed cool. "You're too kind. Mr. Park's been good to me over the years. Now that he's not doing well, I can't just stand by. I don't need more money or assets. But I've always said, what's yours is yours. If you bite off more than you can chew, it won't end well."
The other shareholders' faces twisted. Joseph had been leaning on Xavier, and they hadn't gotten any perks for years. Who knew how long Joseph had left? Was he planning to take all that cash to the grave? Once he kicked the bucket, wouldn't the Park Group be up for grabs? What could Stephanie do alone? Unless the Park Group and DG merged through marriage, if Xavier married Stephanie, they might be totally out of options.
Stephanie was staring at Xavier like he was a snack. Xavier was just too good-looking. He was different from the other guys here. Young, steady, and oozing that mature man charm.
Xavier was rocking a suit, and even though it covered him up, Stephanie could totally imagine the solid muscles underneath, the strong waistline, and the powerful... well, you know. Every move he made was magnetic. To Stephanie, Xavier was walking, talking sex appeal. She hadn't even had a drink, but her cheeks were already flushed, and her heart was racing.
Thinking about what might go down tonight, Stephanie's face got even redder.
Xavier was swirling his wine glass, and the light from the glass reflected off his slender fingers. In Stephanie's mind, she already pictured Xavier's big hands on her waist, taking control. But...
Stephanie suddenly noticed that the bracelet on Xavier's wrist was missing.
She knew that bracelet, a keepsake from Xavier's mom, was super important to him since he almost never took it off and rarely let anyone else touch it.
Once, when she went to see Xavier, he was in the shower. So she went into his bedroom and saw the bracelet on the bedside table. She couldn't resist picking it up, but when Xavier came out, he tore into her.
Xavier had scolded her without holding back. That bracelet was off-limits to everyone.
After that, Stephanie never touched it again, just knowing it was always on Xavier's wrist. But now, she only saw a watch on his wrist. She looked closely and saw that neither of Xavier's wrists had the bracelet. She realized that since Xavier came back, she hadn't seen the bracelet. Maybe she just hadn't noticed.
A thought hit Stephanie like a ton of bricks: Could Xavier have given that bracelet to someone else? No way. Even if he had a thing with Grace, there's no chance she'd get her hands on it. Grace? Seriously?
Maybe the chain broke? Or it got dirty, so Xavier put it away? Yeah, that had to be it. Something that important, no way he'd just hand it over to someone else.
Stephanie felt a bit better but still had this nagging feeling. She reached into her bag and pulled out a pill. If she slipped this into Xavier's wine, he'd be all over her tonight. She'd gone through a lot to get this potent aphrodisiac.
Her heart was pounding. She just needed the right moment to drop the pill in Xavier's wine and watch him drink it.
Meanwhile, the Park Group's shareholders were talking business with Xavier. Stephanie wasn't in a rush; she was biding her time.
After a few rounds of drinks, Stephanie grabbed the wine bottle.
"Since everyone's pouring wine for Mr. Montgomery, should I chip in too?" Stephanie found an excuse.
She walked over to Xavier and picked up his wine glass. "Xavier, I really appreciate everything you've done for me. I'll never forget it."
She poured wine for Xavier and slipped the pill into his glass.
Stephanie was super careful, but Xavier still caught on.
Xavier's eyes turned icy. Did Stephanie really think he wouldn't notice her shady moves?
Stephanie placed the wine in front of Xavier, poured wine for the other shareholders, and then went back to her seat.
"Stephanie is so thoughtful, always knowing how to please Mr. Montgomery."
"Yeah, if she wasn't, how would the Park Group be where it is today?"
The other shareholders were smiling, but their words were dripping with sarcasm.
Stephanie didn't care. She even hoped these people would think she was tangled up with Xavier.
She wasn't in a hurry. She waited for the aphrodisiac to dissolve. Even if there was a slight taste, the wine would mask it, and Xavier wouldn't notice.
Xavier's gaze swept over everyone, his voice cold. "So, what you have now is because you're considerate and good at pleasing others? Who exactly are you pleasing?"
The people who had just spoken clammed up. One bold person tried to smooth things over, "Just joking, Mr. Montgomery. Don't take it seriously. They're just drunk."
After a few more rounds of conversation, Stephanie figured the pill had almost dissolved. She raised her glass to Xavier. "Xavier, I toast to you."
Xavier didn't raise his glass but looked at Stephanie with such a sharp gaze that her hand almost shook.
Stephanie thought, 'Why is Xavier looking at me like that? Did he figure it out? No way. I was super careful.'
At that moment, another shareholder said, "Mr. Montgomery, Ms. Park is toasting you. Are you not going to show her some respect?"
Xavier lowered his eyes, swirled his wine glass, then looked at the speaker and handed the glass over. "You seem so eager. Do you want to drink this glass with Ms. Park instead?"
Stephanie's heart skipped a beat. Did Xavier know about the aphrodisiac in the wine?
