Chapter 260 Poor Xavier
Xavier held a glass of wine, his long fingers swirling it like a piece of art.
He paused mid-sip at Victor's words.
"What's the issue?" Isaac asked.
"Xavier's going about it all wrong," Victor said. "You've met Grace, right? What's she like?"
Isaac thought for a moment. "She's nice but very independent and rational. You can see that in how she handles the Lewis and Montgomery families."
Victor nodded. "Exactly. Are you treating Grace like a pet?"
"Grace isn't someone you can cage. She goes after what she wants and solves her own problems. She's a lot like you."
"You're both stubborn and capable. Sometimes you don't need to pave the way for her; she can handle it. Trust her."
Xavier said, "I don't treat her like a pet."
If Grace were a pet, he'd keep her close. But he knew if she were that type, he wouldn't be interested.
"You might not think so, but let me ask: has anyone ever given you something you didn't accept? How did you react?" Victor asked.
Xavier remembered when he wasn't as successful. His looks alone attracted attention, especially from wealthy women who tried to shower him with gifts under the guise of investment. He felt insulted and accepted nothing.
He was angry and even cursed them out. He faced some backlash but never regretted it.
Thinking about it, Grace was similar. Even when he gave her earrings, she felt the need to reciprocate.
Xavier glanced at his watch, a gift from Grace. He cherished it and rarely took it off. But if he hadn't given her anything before and she had just given him a watch, he would have found a way to reciprocate.
"Got it? Pets aren't easy to care for. If you have extra funds, buy me things instead. I'll accept gratefully and won't complain!"
"Get lost!" Xavier said.
Victor wasn't offended. "If you want to see if Grace still cares, if she's angry, or with Omari, there's another way."
"What way?" Xavier asked.
Victor acted mysteriously. "Not telling yet. Just drink up. Come on, have some more."
"You ordered all this wine, so help finish it!" Victor refilled Xavier's glass.
Xavier drank glass after glass. He'd had quite a bit, and while he didn't feel it now, it would hit him later.
Isaac watched and said, "You know Xavier has a stomach condition. What if he ends up with a stomach bleed?"
Victor drank too. "Someone will take care of him. Don't worry."
After leaving the restaurant, Grace went straight home.
Her deal with the Turner Group seemed off, or maybe Omari never planned to collaborate.
Omari was a good guy and treated her well. Grace thought of him like a brother, but she didn't expect him to have feelings for her.
And Xavier was there when Omari said those things. He already had strong objections against Omari; this might make things worse.
'Whatever, it's not like Xavier and I are anything now. Let him misunderstand if he wants,' Grace thought.
'But what about Angela? Does she know about this?'
Grace wanted to eat but wasn't very hungry, so she went to her study to work.
When she looked up again, it was already 10 P.M.
Time for bed; she had work tomorrow.
Grace went to the bathroom to remove her makeup and shower.
After drying her hair, she picked up her phone to go to bed but saw several missed calls from Victor.
Before she could call back, Victor called again.
Grace's heart skipped a beat. It was unusual for Victor to call so many times. Her gut told her it might be about Xavier.
Grace answered, "Mr. Hastings, why did you call so many times?"
"Grace, are you asleep?" Victor asked.
"No, I was just washing up. Is something wrong?" Grace asked.
"Actually, it's nothing serious. Xavier is drunk and hard to handle. He's holding his stomach and seems uncomfortable. None of us can get near him. Could you come over? We've had a lot to drink and can't take him home," Victor said.
Was Xavier drunk?
Really? Last time he said he was drunk, it was a lie. He can hold his liquor well.
Xavier likely didn't have dinner after he left. Given his stomach condition and the amount of alcohol he consumed, no wonder his stomach felt bad.
"Maybe I should call Mason," Grace said. She thought it would be easier for Mason to go to Xavier.
"Mason's been busy all day and probably isn't off work yet. I asked others, but no one is available. Grace, if you don't help, Xavier will be pitiful with no one to take care of him," Victor said.
"Xavier has been motherless since childhood, neglected by his father, constantly bullied at home. He has been struggling alone from a young age, resulting in numerous health issues. Now he's drunk, and there's no one to take care of him. He continues to drink despite our attempts to stop him. If he develops a gastric hemorrhage, it will be serious," Victor said.
"Well, if he ends up in the hospital due to drinking, it can only be blamed on his unlucky fate."
Grace thought about Xavier’s health. With his stomach condition and all that alcohol, what happened to him?
"Give me the address," Grace said.
Victor quickly replied, "It's the same bar as last time, the same private room."
"Okay." After hanging up, Grace grabbed her car keys and headed out.
Thinking about how angry Xavier had been when he left, Grace wondered if he really wanted to see her.
But there was no time to worry about that now. Grace drove to the bar.
It was almost 11 P.M., and there weren't many cars on the road, so Grace arrived quickly.
The private room was dimly lit. With one hand supporting his forehead, Xavier's hair was slightly disheveled, and two buttons of his shirt were undone.
He was holding a wine glass in his other hand, ready to take another drink.
Just as Xavier opened his mouth to drink, Grace's hand pressed down on his glass, and his lips touched the back of her cold hand.
