Chapter 425 Grace Discovered Her Childhood Fiancé Was Xavier
Grace kept her cool. "I promised I wouldn't tell Xavier. As long as you tell my truth, I swear he won't find out, Patrick. You really don't have any other options."
Patrick was livid. "Why should I trust you?"
Grace shot back, "You don't have to. But I can tell Xavier about your part in his mom's death right now. Do you think he'll be as calm as I am? He'll probably just lock you up and make you spill everything. You know how he operates."
"Xavier doesn't kill you because he thinks you had nothing to do with his mom's death. I can bring him here to question you directly. Patrick, you have no choice but to trust me."
Patrick was taken aback. This young girl, Grace, had hit his weak spot multiple times, and he was out of options.
Throughout his life, this was the first time he felt so powerless.
Patrick seemed to make up his mind, "Let's talk in the study."
"Right here," Grace insisted, not budging an inch.
She was in control now, not letting Patrick take the lead.
Patrick clenched his fist, then relaxed. He told Eli to clear out all the servants and even had someone guard Kelly's room.
No one else could know about this, except Grace.
"No recording," Grace said, placing her phone in front of Patrick to check.
Patrick sighed, "It's a long story. Back then, the Montgomery family and the Lewis family had ties. Xavier's mom was just a mistress. She even had the nerve to bring her illegitimate kid to the Montgomery Mansion to fight for the inheritance. The Montgomery family hated them. The Lewis family was trying to get on the Montgomery family's good side, so your mom wasn't exactly kind to Xavier's mom. They argued a few times, but it was all an act."
"Later, Evelyn and Xavier's mom started talking privately and even set up a marriage contract between you and Xavier. I had someone follow them, and my guys overheard it."
Grace was floored.
According to Patrick, her mom and Xavier's mom were actually close. So, was her marriage contract not with Ryan?
"Your mom had a crystal, which you probably know about. It was the symbol of the marriage contract. She gave it to Xavier's mom and discussed your marriage contract."
Grace was stunned. "So, my marriage contract is with Xavier, not Ryan!"
Grace was in shock, unable to believe it.
Especially when she saw Patrick nodding, she realized he'd been scheming from the start.
He was truly evil.
Patrick confirmed, "Yes, you and Xavier had a marriage contract. Hardly anyone knew about it. Your mom kept it a secret to protect Xavier and his mom. Only the two of them and I knew."
Grace pressed, "And then you schemed, hurt Xavier's mom, took the crystal from her, and after my mom died, you took the half crystal from her. You killed Xavier's mom, right? So, was my mom's death also your doing?"
Grace had every reason to suspect that Patrick, being so ruthless, might also be behind Evelyn's death.
"No, your mom's death has nothing to do with me!" Patrick quickly denied.
"Why should I believe you? You've done so many terrible things and caused so many deaths. Taking my mom's life would be nothing to you, right?"
Patrick sighed, "I've come clean about everything else. There's no point in lying about your mom's death. I really don't know what happened to her. It could've been an accident, or maybe she crossed the wrong person. I honestly don't know, Grace. You can look into it yourself!"
Grace stared at him, her eyes cold.
If Patrick had really killed Evelyn, he wouldn't look like this. It seemed he was telling the truth.
"So, how exactly did you kill Xavier's mom?" Grace asked.
Patrick replied, "That's not something you need to know."
He wasn't about to spill the details.
Even without more info, this was a lot for Grace to take in.
Patrick was behind Xavier's mom's death. Who was responsible for Evelyn's?
It couldn't have been an accident. Grace felt there was a bigger secret behind it.
Evelyn had too many secrets, and everything seemed like a dead end. Plus, her marriage contract was actually with Xavier.
Patrick warned, "Grace, you promised you wouldn't tell Xavier about this. If you do, I'll drag you down with me, even if it costs me my life."
Grace assured him, "Don't worry."
Given her current relationship with Xavier, she wouldn't spill the beans.
But she had to clear Evelyn's name. Evelyn couldn't take the fall for Patrick.
Patrick added, "You promised that the Coleman family wouldn't come after me and would help the Montgomery Group financially."
Grace nodded, "I keep my promises."
She'd learned the truth, but she was still confused. As she left, Patrick's words echoed in her mind.
Patrick sat there, his expression frozen. What did it matter if Grace knew? The crystal was still in his hands, and Grace couldn't get the money.
He didn't know the crystal he had was a fake.
When Grace stepped out, Scott, Steven, and Thomas were anxiously waiting. Seeing her, they finally relaxed.
"Grace, what happened? Did you find out anything?" Scott asked.
Grace nodded, "Yes, but my mom's death has nothing to do with Patrick. Steven, I promised Patrick that if he told the truth, the Coleman family wouldn't target the Montgomery family anymore and would give him some money."
Steven agreed, "Alright, I'll take care of it."
"Grace, you don't look well. What did Patrick tell you?" Scott was concerned.
Grace brushed it off, "Just some irrelevant stuff about the Montgomery family, nothing to do with the Coleman family."
Seeing she didn't want to talk, they didn't push.
Grace got into Steven's car and took out Evelyn's crystal, gently stroking it.
She'd finally learned the truth about the marriage contract.
She'd always wondered why Evelyn would make such a poor choice and arrange a marriage contract for her with Ryan. It turned out Evelyn had chosen Xavier.
Grace didn't know what Xavier was like as a kid, but he must have been impressive. Otherwise, Evelyn wouldn't have trusted him with her.
Setting everything else aside, Xavier was indeed exceptional. He was capable, resourceful, and strong-willed, with everything under control.
Compared to him, Ryan was just a waste.
Patrick had ruined her marriage contract with Xavier, but she and Xavier had crossed paths again later. Unfortunately, it was fate that they wouldn't end up together.
Grace's heart ached. Why did it have to be Xavier? She wished there had never been this marriage contract.
