Chapter 90 His Fiancée

Grace briskly opened the door on the passenger side, confirming once again the differences between people.
Xavier's demeanor was not on the same level as Ryan's.
She turned her head, gazing at Xavier's profile. The dim light in the car accentuated his sculpted features.
Xavier turned his head and happened to meet Grace's gaze. Grace sheepishly withdrew her own, but her heartbeat couldn't help but speed up.
"Navigation." Xavier's voice was as melodious as ever.
"Right away!" Grace picked up her phone to set up the navigation, starting the car but hesitating to look at Xavier's face again.
The carriage was cramped, and it felt awkward with no one speaking. Grace rubbed her face with both hands and then broke the silence.
"Xavier, do you not plan to return to Oakworth in the near future?"
"There is still something to attend to over here."
The DG Group branch in Skigeth had been running smoothly. In a couple of days, the company would open a resort under its name. Xavier would also visit it.
"Oh." Grace didn't say anything else.
On the road at night, with few cars around, the journey was smooth and unobstructed. Soon, they arrived at Grace's destination, guided by the navigation.
It was around Grace's house, and there was a night market. Even though it's already late, there were still quite a few people around.
"You probably won't mind this place, even though it's noisy here. The smell of fireworks is particularly strong, and the people here are not aloof; they are all very friendly."
"The steak at this place was delicious. Even though the restaurant is small, the hygiene is exceptionally clean. You can rest assured!"
Grace expressed her concern to Xavier, saying that she was afraid he might not be accustomed to this kind of place.
Big shots like Xavier probably wouldn't even normally come to a place like this.
They frequented high-end bars and dined at five-star restaurants.
"Hmm." Xavier had no aversion to this place; instead, he felt a sense of familiarity.
When I was a child, when it was just Mom and me, we used to live in this kind of narrow alley.
The people around may not be particularly wealthy, but they are all very kind.
Their family was very poor. His mother was a waitress. She was raped by Mr. Montgomery Senior, who was close to fifty years old at the time, which resulted in his birth.
There was an additional burden on Mom with him around, and later, he fell seriously ill. Mom couldn't afford the treatment, so she had to take him to find his so-called father.
After undergoing a paternity test, it was confirmed that he belonged to the Montgomery family. The Montgomery family reluctantly accepted him.
When he was young, he never felt bitter. The Montgomery family lived in luxury, but for Xavier, that was not the place he wanted to be.
Later on, he went to the vast Oakworth alone and started his own business. He knew very early on that the place of his childhood was something he could never return to.
Grace wiped the table and chairs before allowing Xavier to sit.
"Any dietary restrictions?" Grace had shared a few meals with Xavier, but even in their previous encounters, the chefs were undoubtedly well-informed.
"No."
"Very well. Then, allow me to make some recommendations on your behalf." Grace perused the menu, and Xavier nodded in agreement, expressing no objections.
The steak dish arrived quickly. "Try it, it's really good," Grace said.
Xavier picked up the fork, cut small pieces, and put them in his mouth. It was a taste that could truly whet one's appetite.
Similar to celebrating birthdays in his childhood, the taste of the steak his mother used to order from the neighboring restaurant lingered in his memory.
"I hope I didn't deceive you; this steak is truly delicious. Give it another try!"
Grace and Xavier were eating steak. The more Grace got to know Xavier, the more she realized that he really was quite different from other wealthy people.
For a place like this, if it were Ryan, he would definitely never set foot in it. On the contrary, he would be particularly disdainful, thinking that this place is all dirty and even feeling like the people around are messy, too.
But Xavier showed no hint of disdain, which was evident from his every gesture and movement.
Just as the two people were eating, Xavier's phone, which was placed on the side, started ringing.
Xavier glanced at the caller ID, and Grace followed his gaze down.
[Stephanie Park.]
It's obviously a girl's name.
Grace suddenly remembered what Angela had mentioned before about Xavier's fiancée, who lived far away in Oakworth.
Xavier chose not to answer the call, opting instead to end it abruptly. Grace, curious, inquired, "Are you choosing not to answer? Is my presence here inconvenient?"
"Not at all," he replied calmly.
Despite his initial dismissal, the persistent caller made another attempt. Grace spoke up, saying, "Why don't you pick up? I'm not eavesdropping."
After saying that, she stood up and said, "I'm going to check if the boss lady has any ketchup."
Xavier looked at the vibrating phone and finally answered, "Hello."
"You finally answered my call!" came the excited voice of a girl on the phone.
"What's up?" Xavier spoke very briefly.
Merely listening to Xavier's voice stirred profound longing within Stephanie; it had been quite some time since she last saw him.
"Can't I call you when I have nothing to do? I miss you so much. When are you coming back? Don't you miss me at all? You never answer when I call."
Xavier heard Stephanie's voice, and his brow furrowed. "Stephanie, I've told you before we were just regular friends."
"Okay, okay," Stephanie interrupted Xavier. She knew what Xavier was about to say, but she just liked him so much.
Xavier had rejected her many times, but Stephanie never gave up.
As long as there were no women around Xavier, she had a chance, and she had long since assumed herself to be Xavier's wife.
Stephanie, attuned to the clamor surrounding Xavier, inquired, "Where are you that it's so chaotic?"
"I'm going to eat. If there's nothing else, I'll hang up."
"Hey, Xavier, what's up?"
Xavier has hung up the phone. Stephanie Park, filled with anger, smashed the phone in her hand.
She hadn't yet finished speaking. She wanted to say that she's planning to play in Skigeth in a few days.
In that case, she had to sneak away quietly to give Xavier a surprise!
Grace came over with ketchup, and Xavier had finished the call.
She didn't ask who made the call. She and Xavier weren't in that kind of relationship, and she had no reason to ask that question.
'In the future, let's keep a bit more distance from Xavier. After all, he is a man with a fiancée,' Grace contemplated.
"Would you like some ketchup?" Grace placed the ketchup on the table.
"No, thank you."
"Very well." Grace lowered her head, consuming the steak on her plate, and after that, spoke sparingly.
Xavier was not much of a talker either. The two didn't say much to each other until after dinner.
As they stepped out of the quaint eatery, Grace inquired, "I live not far from here. I'll walk back in a while. Would you like me to arrange for a driver or perhaps a designated driver for you?"
"No need."
"Very well. Take care on your way."
"Okay."
"Alright. Farewell then." Grace waved towards Xavier and proceeded towards her home.
"Grace." Xavier's voice came from behind.
His voice was not loud, but Grace was very sensitive to it.
"Hmm?" She stopped in her tracks, turned around, and cast a glance back towards the nearby Xavier.
