Chapter 026 You Like Omari
Angela tugged Grace toward the buffet area. Grace had skipped lunch due to her busy day and was famished.
Grace found herself at the party solely because she had accompanied Angela and had no other engagements.
As they were eating, they ran into the busy Omari Turner. Angela waved at him enthusiastically. "Omari!"
Omari walked over. "Angela, I just heard Mom scolded you again. Don't be sad. Mom's just like that."
Omari was Angela's brother. In the Turner family, he was the only one who treated Angela well. Grace also knew that he was a kind brother.
However, she still in disguise at the moment, pretending not to be Grace, thus refrained from greeting Omari.
"I understand, Omari. By the way, I’d like to congratulate you, early. You're about to take over the Turner family business," Angela praised.
Omari gave a strained smile, aware only to himself of the pressure and the helplessness that came with it.
"If you get the chance, spend some more time at home with Mom and Dad. We're all family," Omari said.
"I will. Now, go on—you're busy!" Angela urged.
"All right." Omari glanced at Grace, a bit surprised. "And who's this? Where's Grace? I sent her an invitation. Is she not here today?"
Omari remembered that Grace was supposed to be Angela's best friend; they were inseparable.
Grace hadn't expected Omari to send her an invitation, yet she didn't receive one.
"Grace couldn't make it," said Angela.
Just then, Edith approached with a sweet tone, "Omari."
"There you are. Mom's been looking for you." Edith's gaze lingered on Omari, unable to look away.
"Have fun with your friend, Angela." With that, Omari left swiftly. Edith's eyes followed him until he was out of sight.
"You don't know what a big day it is today? Can't you be more responsible?" Edith chided.
"What did I do to you?" Angela was perplexed.
She hadn't done anything, and here was Edith scolding her. "Everyone's busy. Omari and Dad are swamped. Mom and I are hosting the guests. And you?"
"What about me? I'm entertaining guests, too. This is my guest," Angela said, taking Grace's hand.
Edith looked at Grace arrogantly. "Angela, Mom doesn’t approve of you making friends carelessly."
"What's wrong with my friend?" Angela was upset; Edith was always so two-faced.
"Isn't it obvious? She keeps looking at Omari. Who knows what she's thinking," Edith hinted, accusingly.
However, what truly caught Omari's attention was the numerous glances he stole at Grace. Edith found Grace's beauty disconcerting.
Edith had managed to discreetly drive away women who had approached Omari in the past, but she felt Grace wouldn't be so easy to handle.
"Are you crazy? Let's just ignore her!" Angela was convinced that there was something odd about Edith's way of thinking. Sometimes, she even felt that Edith's interest in Omari was a bit excessive.
Grace looked at the frustrated Edith and said calmly, "I know what I’m thinking. What about you? You’re afraid to admit it, so you assume that anyone who glances at Omari is into him."
"You!" Edith's face flushed with embarrassment as she was exposed. "That's absurd!"
"What did I say? Did I touch a nerve?" Grace watched Edith with an air of serenity that contrasted with Edith's panic.
Angela realized something, saying, "Oh… Edith, you like Omari."
"You better not go there. You’ve been cozying up to my mom to make her happy, and now you want to be Omari’s wife? If Mom knew what you were thinking, she’d surely kick you out. Besides, Omari isn't into women like you."
"Angela." Edith was angry and embarrassed, her face beet red. She was about to lash out when a servant came over and said, "Ms. Angela Turner, Ms. Edith Turner, Mrs. Turner is asking for you."
"If you dare spout nonsense in front of Omari and Mom, I’ll never forgive you," Edith threatened.
Angela told Grace she'd be right back. Grace waved her off and gestured at Angela not to worry.
After she indulged in a couple of pastries, Grace felt full. Glancing around, she realized he was nowhere in sight.
As she lingered, several men came up to chat with her, but Grace remained aloof, not engaging with them extensively.
After sharing a couple of drinks with Kelly, Ryan overhead someone mention, "Can someone take that woman home tonight?"
"Her face and figure are perfect. I wonder what she’s like in bed," another wondered aloud.
"Lots of guys have tried to approach her but she doesn’t give any of us the time of day. She seems very snooty," one remarked.
"What’s with the attitude? Do you guys know her? I bet not. She's not from our circle, maybe she’s from some nightclub looking to snag a rich guy. She's just not into you,” someone taunted.
Hearing these words, Ryan couldn't help looking over. When he saw Grace, his eyes sparkled.
‘It was her,’ he thought.
Ryan had had the privilege of seeing her once before. One glance was enough to captivate him. He searched the whole town but couldn't find any information about her.
She was like a fairy from his dreams; everything felt surreal, as if he were living in a dream.
As he laid eyes on her once more, the excitement in Ryan’s eyes was evident.
Clad in a blue dress that accentuated her grace, she seemed ethereal, akin to a fairy-tale princess like Snow White.
Her rosy lips and eyes bright like stars radiated beauty that defied description.
Her allure extended beyond her face to her legs. Ryan couldn't peel his eyes away, as if he was in a dream, worried that everything before him would vanish with a blink.
Beside him, Kelly said, "Ryan, should we head to your place or mine tonight? I've learned some new massage techniques; I'm sure you'll enjoy them."
Ryan didn't catch a word she said. Since laying eyes on Grace, he had even pushed Kelly aside. Holding a glass of wine, he walked toward Grace.
At the Turner family's banquet, Grace wasn't looking to stir up drama or trouble. Especially, without Angela by her side, Grace planned to take a walk in the garden outside.
Most guests gathered around the banquet hall, leaving fewer people in the garden.
No sooner had Grace stepped outside, someone grabbed her wrist. "Miss," the voice called out.
Hearing the man’s voice sent a chill down Grace's spine.
"Get lost!" Grace snapped at him.
But Ryan didn't give up, his gaze fixed on Grace. "Fancy seeing you here again," he said.
Grace looked at Ryan, certain she had never met him in this manner before.
