Chapter 383 Wife

Colin seized the moment to hand over a glass of wine. "Xavier, come on, just drink up!"

Xavier bypassed the glass entirely, grabbing the bottle and taking a long swig directly from it.

"Whoa, whoa! That's not how you drink! Are you trying to poison yourself?" Everyone knew Xavier had a bad stomach, and this liquor was rough on it.

None of them could figure out what had happened to make Xavier punish himself like this.

But Xavier wasn't listening. He missed Grace so much.

Grace was never the fragile type. She was always decisive. Like the last time she said it was over, she really meant it and cut ties for good.

She was straightforward and carefree.

This was the outcome he wanted, but Xavier was still hurting.

He knew Grace seemed fine on the outside, but she kept everything bottled up. She never talked about her feelings. No matter what life threw at her, she carried on, strong and stubborn.

Grace would slowly deal with all her grievances on her own; she wouldn't let herself be weak.

Grace seemed indifferent, but those close to her knew how deeply she felt. Any kindness shown to her, she would repay tenfold, a hundredfold.

The guys Xavier had sent to keep an eye on Grace reported that she was doing okay. Working hard, taking care of herself.

But the more Grace acted like this, the more it hurt Xavier.

Seeing Xavier oblivious to his concerns, Colin felt helpless. He could only watch as Xavier downed an entire bottle of liquor.

Even though Stephanie said he had broken up with Grace, it was clear from Xavier's behavior that he hadn't moved on.

Colin wondered if there was a chance to rekindle things between Xavier and Grace.

Xavier finished the first bottle and quickly grabbed a second one. This time, not only Colin but also Dominic tried to stop him.

Dominic, a doctor, couldn't just stand by and watch. "Is this how you drink?"

Xavier pushed his hand away and kept drinking.

He was already getting drunk, his pupils starting to dilate.

"Grace," Xavier murmured.

When he got drunk, Grace would come to find him.

That's how it was before, according to Victor.

Colin was puzzled that despite Xavier drinking so much, Grace hadn't shown up.

Colin thought for a moment and quietly picked up Xavier's phone from the coffee table. The phone was still on, displaying a photo.

The figure in the photo was clearly Grace.

Colin sighed. Even after breaking up, Xavier was still secretly taking photos of Grace. As Xavier's good friend, he decided to help him out.

He opened Xavier's contacts and quickly found Grace.

Colin was silent for a moment.

The contact name was too straightforward!

Xavier's contact name for her was simply "Wife."

Before, when Grace was Ryan's fiancée, her contact name was "Ryan's fiancée." After that ended, Xavier changed it to "Wife" and kept it that way.

Colin figured this must be Grace, so he dialed the number.

Late at night, Grace's phone vibrated.

Angela was already asleep. Grace wasn't sure who was calling her. She picked up the phone and was stunned when she saw the contact name.

The phone was flashing, and her heart suddenly tightened. It was Xavier.

Hadn't they already ended things? What did Xavier want with her now?

Grace thought for a moment and decided to hang up.

But immediately, the number rang again. Grace hesitated, then walked outside and answered.

"This is Grace speaking," she tried to keep her voice calm.

"Grace, it's me, Colin." Colin's voice came through the phone.

Grace chuckled lightly. She didn't even know what she was expecting.

"What's up?" Grace's voice was soft.

"Xavier is drunk at the bar. Grace, do you want to come pick him up?" Colin still didn't know that Grace had left Oakworth.

"Sorry, you have the wrong person. I'm not—" Grace started to say.

Before she could finish, she heard a female voice on the other end. "Xavier, why did you drink so much? Let me take you home."

It was Stephanie's voice.

Grace couldn't fathom why Xavier had drunk so much, but she knew that now that he was drunk, he no longer needed her to take him home.

Grace's cold voice came through. "Someone's already there to take him home. If there's nothing else, I'll hang up now."

With that, Grace hung up the phone.

She leaned against the table, holding her phone to her chest.

Her heart ached so intensely that it felt as though she could hardly breathe.

Inside, Angela heard some noise. When she woke up and found Grace missing, she was startled and quickly got out of bed.

"Grace, Grace!" She had purposely slept with Grace, afraid that Grace might do something rash.

She hadn't expected to fall asleep, only to find Grace gone.

Angela turned on the living room light and saw Grace, finally breathing a sigh of relief. "You scared me to death, Grace. Why are you up?"

"I just got up to get a glass of water." Grace quickly wiped her eyes, feeling the wetness. She didn't even know when she had started crying.

"Why didn't you turn on the light?" Angela didn't buy it.

"You need to sleep. Get some rest. Tomorrow night, I'm taking you out. We'll find you some cute guys. A new one for every day of the week. How about that?" Grace said, trying to sound cheerful, pulling Angela towards the bedroom.

She didn't want Angela to see her red eyes. She believed that time could heal all wounds.

Grace lay in bed but couldn't sleep. When she closed her eyes, all she could think about was Xavier.

Tears slowly rolled down. It turned out that letting go and forgetting someone was such a difficult thing to do.

At the bar, Colin watched as Stephanie walked in without a word. "Stephanie, what are you doing here?"

He looked at the phone in his hand, which had already been hung up.

Colin thought Grace might have heard Stephanie's voice.

Colin found this Stephanie insufferable; her grandfather had just passed away, and instead of staying home to handle the arrangements, she had come here.

"I was worried about Xavier," Stephanie said. "I came to take him home."

"No need. We can take Xavier home." Colin looked at Stephanie with disgust.

Stephanie said with a little anger, "I'm Xavier's future wife. Get away!"

Colin wouldn't agree. As long as he was there, he wouldn't let Stephanie get her way.

"You've got some nerve," Colin said directly, then kicked Stephanie out.

Colin originally thought about explaining things to Grace again, but he found the phone had already been turned off.
