Chapter 059 Grace Shows Ryan the Door

Grace had nothing more to say. There was no common ground to be found between her and Laura.

Laura had made her stance clear, and her conviction was unshakable, so she left. Still not ready to give up, Laura wanted to send someone after Grace, but they were stopped by individuals who seemingly were not to be trifled with.

The next morning, Xavier was already informed about the whole affair. "Mr. Montgomery, I've reached out to the police department," Mason said. "They will conduct a thorough investigation to ensure a fair judgment."

"I've also arranged for someone to discreetly follow Ms. Lewis to ensure her safety," he added.

"Good," Xavier nodded, content with Mason’s handling of the situation.

Mason continued, "It seems Ms. Lewis isn't doing well in the Lewis family. I can't believe a father could do such a thing, and I didn't expect Ms. Lewis to face it alone. If the police hadn't arrived in time, our men were ready to burst in."

Ever since the last time Xavier detected something off in Grace's voice and learned she hadn't gone home, opting to stay at a hotel instead, Mason had investigated the matter and found out about Tom harassing and stalking Grace at her home.

Worried that Tom might do something rash, Xavier had someone shadow Grace in recent days to protect her without her knowledge.

Xavier was also aware that Grace had gone to the Lewis family home last night. Given Zach's temperament, he figured Zach wouldn't let Grace leave easily.

Zach would likely confine Grace and force her to sign something. Xavier had underestimated Grace; she had the foresight to call the police ahead of time.

Xavier acknowledged, "All right."

"Mr. Montgomery, Ms. Lewis has been exceptionally busy with work, and she can't handle it all on her own. Shall we offer assistance?" asked Mason. Grace was overwhelmed, but to Xavier, these were trivial matters.

Mason had only suggested help because he saw how invested Xavier was in Grace's well-being.

"No need," Xavier responded firmly. "She chose her path, and she ought to be the one to make her own choices." Even if the road ahead was arduous and bereft of hope, it was still the path Grace had chosen. He had faced similar challenges himself.

After resting for only a couple of hours, Grace was up again, continuing with her work. These matters couldn't disrupt her workflow. In the morning, she planned to check on the perfume production progress at the factory, and in the afternoon, she had to inspect the renovation progress at the store.

When Grace arrived at the store in the afternoon, there were some aspects of the contractor's work that she wasn’t satisfied with, so she re-explained the effects she wanted, watching as the contractor began to rework it.

While Grace was overseeing the final touches with the contractor, a voice called out from behind her, "Grace!" Ryan strode over, his face scrunched up as he disliked the dust from the construction.

"What are you doing here?" Grace asked, tersely.

Ryan started accusing, "Grace, what exactly do you want? Even if Kelly did something wrong, it was because she loved me too much, so I apologize on her behalf. What are you after? Money or connections? I can help you with either, but you've got to stop targeting Kelly."

"I have no idea what you're talking about. When have I ever targeted Kelly? You think I have as much free time as you do?" Grace was too busy with her affairs to bother with Kelly.

"Grace, you are so cruel. You know what my dad is like, so wasn't it intentional last time? Now that my dad has taken Kelly, you're happy, aren't you?" he blamed her.

"I don't know what you've told my dad to make him like you so much that he insists I marry you,” he continued.

"You've done so much. Isn't your indifference just playing hard to get? You want my dad to go after Kelly, to get rid of the woman by my side, to force yourself into marriage with me? If you convince my dad to set Kelly free, I'll agree to marry you, okay?" he implored.

Grace was speechless.

She thought, ‘Has Ryan lost his mind? How can he say such a thing?’

If Kelly gets out, Ryan would have to marry her, so Grace couldn't possibly agree to let Kelly go.

"Ryan, if you've lost your mind, you should go to the hospital instead of going crazy all the time. Whatever happened to Kelly has nothing to do with me. Since your dad took her, you should talk to him," she remarked, indifferently.

"Grace, do you have to be this way? Why are you so spiteful?" he said, spitefully.

Ryan believed that Grace was not only indifferent to suffering but also brazenly righteous about it.

"Ryan, don't disgust me. Sure, Kelly is the best, and everyone else is spiteful. Maybe next time I'll have someone bully Kelly so you can see what real spite looks like, okay?" she said, sarcastically.

"You wouldn't dare?" Ryan said menacingly, "If you touch a hair on Kelly's head, I will never forgive you."

Grace simply replied. "You should be saying that to your dad. He's the one threatening Kelly now, not me."

Ryan was at a loss for words.

Grace didn't want to waste her time arguing with Ryan anymore. "Do you have anything else? If not, please get out of the way because you're blocking my workers."

"Grace, I didn't come here to argue with you." Ryan grabbed Grace's wrist. "Go to my dad now, tell him this isn't Kelly's fault, and have him let her go."

Grace jerked her wrist away and picked up a broom, pointing it at Ryan. "Are you done? If you don't leave, I'll throw you out."

Ryan was taken aback, having never been threatened with a broom before. He felt deeply humiliated.

He thought, ‘Grace is simply unreasonable. How can a woman be so rude, and not gentle at all? Kelly is so much better. Not only is she beautiful, but she's also innocent and gentle when she speaks.’

"Grace, don't be shameless, you..." Ryan's insult was cut short as Grace aggressively swept towards him with a broom.

The broom harbored stains, something Ryan couldn't allow to physically come in contact with himself, so he was forced to step back. Holding her ground with the broom, Grace advanced step by step, eventually driving Ryan out.

Outside, Ryan pointed at Grace with fury. "You wait!" he threatened.

Grace thought to herself, ‘Ryan's simply gone mad. It's not my problem that Kelly got nabbed by Patrick. And the audacity of him expecting me to rescue Kelly. Is he delusional? He can't be that naive. I'm not an idiot, and certainly not kind-hearted to that extent.’

Returning to the shop, Grace busied herself with the final touches. The workers had left a while ago, and the shop would open afterward, and she would proudly have her brand and her store.

Looking around, Grace felt a surge of happiness. All the exhaustion and hard work seemed worthwhile. She had already decided on the name for her brand, Iris.

Irises were her favorite flowers and resembled the tail feathers of a kite bird. Upon closer inspection, their delicate beauty was stunning. The irises were bluish-purple in color, and might not be as striking as other flowers.

And people might pass them by without a second glance, but their resilience was remarkable. They could thrive even in the harshest environments, needing only soil to survive. Grace admired the irises for their tenacity and elegance.
