Chapter 039 Tom Stirs Trouble
Both sets of samples Kelly had sent to the hospital showed no signs of viable sperm.
Current findings indicated zero sperm motility. However, since the samples were sent in a condom, this might have affected the results. The hospital hoped the patient would come in to provide a fresh sample.
Kelly, upon reading the results, covered her mouth in shock. If the sperm had no motility, then there was no chance she could become pregnant. Thus, the problem lies with Ryan.
"Kelly, what are you looking at?" Ryan's voice came through, startling Kelly. She quickly shut off her phone and looked over at Ryan wrapped in a bath towel.
She shook her head, "I wasn't watching anything. Just browsing through some comments online again."
"Those comments will make you angry. You should stop looking at them," Ryan said.
Kelly nodded, her gaze lingering on Ryan. Unbeknownst to Ryan, he was unable to have children, and this revelation gave Kelly an idea.
Kelly also made a phone call to Tom, asking, "Mr. Reed, can you let this go so easily? I've heard that since Grace left the Lewis Group, she's planning to start her own company. Mr. Reed, can you truly stand by and watch her succeed?"
In the following days, Grace was out attending to her business. She had almost finished contacting all the manufacturers, and contracts were signed. Now, she was reaching out to establish sales channels.
However, all the potential sales partners, as if they had made some agreement, were declining orders from Grace's studio.
Some partners, who had almost finalized deals with Grace, were starting to back out when it came time to sign the contracts. Moreover, they began avoiding Grace's calls.
Grace was no fool; she knew someone was sabotaging her.
But she didn't give up. Finally, one company relented. They agreed to meet with Grace at a restaurant to discuss further.
Grace saw this as an opportunity that she had to explore. The other party was amicable, and their conversation went smoothly.
Grace had a bit too much to drink. Although she took some anti-hangover medicine beforehand, she still felt uncomfortable.
"Ms. Lewis, if you're feeling unwell, why don't you rest in the next room for a bit? Here's the keycard."
"Thank you, but I'm fine." Grace declined the keycard and said, "Just Mr. Carter, do you have any other issues with the contract? If not, why don't we go ahead and sign it?"
"Of course, I have no issues. But let's not rush with the contract. Let's have a couple more drinks." As they continued drinking, Kyle pretended to fumble his glass, causing the red wine to spill all over Grace's white dress, leaving a very noticeable stain.
"I'm so sorry, Ms. Lewis. I wasn't holding it steady and just..." he explained.
"It's all right, I'll take care of it," Grace replied before taking her purse and heading to the nearby restroom.
After Grace entered the restroom, Kyle's face showed a mysterious smile. He hurried to an adjacent private room, knocked on the door, and then walked in.
Grace proceeded to the public restroom outside. There were other women there too.
That evening, the restroom's scent was remarkably fragrant.
Grace quickly dabbed the red wine stain on her dress. Fortunately, she had brought extra clothes with her. She hastily changed into her spare outfit. Just then, the bathroom door burst open, followed by piercing screams.
"Ah! Pervert!"
"There's a creeper!"
"Get out, all of you," the leader spoke first.
The girls rushed out of the bathroom. Grace didn't know them and planned to leave as well. But as she approached the door, she was stopped.
The person said, "Ms. Lewis, please stay right there."
Grace understood; these people were there for her.
"I don't know you," Grace said, regaining her composure. She was holding her cell phone, ready to dial for help while starting to record the encounter.
The leader noticed Grace's intentions and snatched the phone from her hand, throwing it to the ground. He said, "It doesn't matter if you don't know us. But Mr. Reed, he's very interested in having a chat with Ms. Lewis."
"Let me pass. I don't know any Mr. Reed!" Grace said, her voice ice-cold. At the same time, her hand slipped into her bag, where she kept a small knife for protection.
A cold laugh echoed from behind. The thugs stepped aside, making way. Tom walked through. He looked haggard, as though he'd been through a life-or-death ordeal.
"Ms. Lewis, you have a short memory. After what you did to me, you've forgotten so quickly?" A vicious look flashed across Tom's face. Grace had set him up before, and despite the powerful backers she had, they'd left him in a dire state.
Grace was of average looks, not even as attractive as the bar waitresses, yet she had managed to garner Xavier's favor.
Tom had heard Grace had started a business and had warned others not to cooperate with her, or they'd be crossing paths with the Reed family. Although the Reeds' influence in Skigeth was modest, Laura’s family wielded significant power, ensuring that no one would dare to ignore his stance.
This was all a setup by Tom for his revenge.
Not only had he failed to seduce Grace before, but he’d also been beaten up by Laura and humiliated by Xavier.
Now, he had lost interest in Grace, but he was determined to ruin her.
"Mr. Reed, I can't recall ever harming you. Your career seems quite successful. Where's the tragedy?" Grace's hand subtly reached into her bag, though her face remained expressionless.
Tom noticed that despite Grace's plain appearance, there was something uniquely captivating about her gaze when she looked at someone.
Grace's eyes were exceptionally beautiful. Her long eyelashes were like tiny brushes, while her pupils seemed almost capable of speech.
Unfortunately, such gorgeous eyes were set upon a face that was far from attractive.
"Grace, less talk," Tom said. "Apologize to me now and please me, and I'll let you go; otherwise..." He paused, glancing at the men he had brought with him. "My associates here have had their fair share of women. How about I let them take care of you!"
