Chapter 630 The Confrontation in the Conference Room
Johnny was visibly fuming. He had busted his tail to climb to his current position, overcoming countless hurdles to become the acting president of DG Group. There was no way he was going to let some young woman derail his plans now.
"As the largest shareholder of DG Group, I have every right to speak here," Grace's voice was steady and authoritative, showing no sign of backing down under Johnny's glare.
Her unwavering stare made Johnny uneasy. Grace had seen Xavier in action before, and Xavier had mentioned Johnny. Johnny was ambitious and tough to handle, but he never dared to challenge Xavier head-on.
Grace hadn't expected to face Johnny herself, but she wasn't intimidated.
"What do you mean?" The others turned to Grace, curious.
Grace tossed a document onto the table. It was a share transfer agreement. She had acquired all of Xavier's shares, holding 70% of DG Group, making her the largest shareholder.
The others were stunned as they read the document. They hadn't expected Xavier to be so prepared.
"So what? Who knows if what you're saying is legit?" Johnny quickly regained his composure. "If anyone could just bring a fake share transfer document and claim to speak for DG Group, wouldn't everyone be doing it?"
"Feel free to verify it," Grace replied calmly.
The lawyer stepped in to clarify, "Mr. Montgomery had already made a will, with a video as evidence. If anything happened to him, all his assets would go to Ms. Lewis. As of now, Ms. Lewis is the largest shareholder of DG Group."
Johnny was not pleased. "Since you mentioned a will, it means it only takes effect if Xavier is dead. You also said Xavier is just missing, not confirmed dead, so the will can't take effect yet."
Johnny sneered, "You're just as greedy as I am, wanting to take over DG Group. I've known Xavier for over a decade. Now that he's barely gone, you're already eager to take his assets. If Xavier knew about this, he'd be heartbroken."
He even pretended to cry, forcing out some tears.
His theatrics didn't sway Grace. She had never wanted Xavier's assets, but she wouldn't let anyone else take them either.
"Even if the will can't take effect, I'm Xavier's legal wife and have inheritance rights. The baby I'm carrying is also Xavier's child and has inheritance rights. None of this belongs to you."
"As the largest shareholder of DG Group, I have veto power. I do not agree with appointing Johnny Turner as the acting president of DG Group."
Grace's words caused an uproar among the others, who were all on Johnny's side.
"You think you can just say no? DG Group can't be without a leader."
"A woman like you should be at home taking care of your child. Who knows whose child it is? Aren't you afraid of retribution?"
This was a blatant threat. If Grace insisted on causing trouble, they would take action against her.
Grace remained unafraid. "From now on, I am the acting president of DG Group. You can report any issues to me. I won't tolerate any dissent. If anyone doesn't want to stay at DG Group, I can buy your shares at the highest market price."
The others exchanged glances and whispered among themselves. "This woman is tough. What do we do now?"
"She has Mr. Montgomery's shares. She's the one in charge now. We can't do anything even if we disagree."
"What about Johnny?"
"We'll stay out of it and let them fight. Whoever wins, we'll follow. That way, we don't offend anyone. If Johnny really wants this position, he'll fight for it. We'll watch."
"Agreed."
The others made the wise choice to protect themselves.
"Mr. Turner, this lady..."
"My name is Grace Lewis. Call me Ms. Lewis," Grace said, her tone steady and authoritative.
"Mr. Turner, Ms. Lewis, we're just small shareholders. Please don't make things difficult for us. We have other matters to attend to, so we'll be leaving now."
The shareholders found an opportunity to leave the meeting room.
Grace stopped them. "Wait."
"Submit the current progress and future plans of your projects to Mr. Montgomery's email within three days. The company doesn't support idlers. If anyone fails to meet the deadline, they can vacate their position."
Johnny had swayed these people and were of no use to the company. It was better to find a way to get rid of them.
The company needed elites, not dead weight.
The shareholders were surprised by Grace's decisive actions. Her style was very much like Xavier's.
They even wondered if Xavier's spirit had possessed Grace.
The shareholders left dejectedly, leaving only Grace and an angry Johnny in the meeting room.
"Grace, let's make a deal. I know what you want. You want to take over DG Group, but you don't know how to manage it. Why not let me manage the company while you collect the money? How about that?"
Johnny still hoped to buy Grace off. He didn't want to resort to violence.
Grace laughed coldly. "How about you wait to collect the money while I manage the company?"
"What does a woman know about managing a company?" Johnny's tone was harsh, showing his disdain for Grace.
"Who says women can't manage companies? There are many capable women in the company. Are they any less competent than men? Mr. Turner, don't you find your prejudice against women laughable?"
"Grace, don't be ungrateful!" Johnny revealed his true nature.
"I could say the same to you!" Grace met Johnny's gaze without a hint of fear.
Johnny stormed out, slamming the door behind him. Grace finally let out a sigh of relief, her palms sweaty.
She was terrified.
She had never faced such a situation before. These people were not to be trifled with. If she had shown any fear, they would have noticed and never backed down.
After catching her breath, Grace returned to Xavier's office.
The office was spacious, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering a view of half of Oakworth. The view was indeed impressive, no wonder so many people wanted to sit here.
The office remained unchanged, but the person who used to sit there was nowhere to be found.
Grace stood at the door, staring inside. In this office, she and Xavier had argued, broken up, and later shared good times.
Now, all those memories resurfaced, overwhelming Grace.
