Chapter 648 So, Who Exactly Is He?

Before Killer could finish his sentence, Marcus reached out his hand. "Mommy, pick me up."

Grace lifted Marcus into her arms, and without hesitation, Marcus boldly slapped Killer on the head.

"Don't you dare talk about my mommy like that! I'll hit you!"

Killer was silent. It was the first time he had been hit, especially by a child.

Grace then spoke up, "Sir, you may look like my husband, but I don't think you are him. He would never speak like you do!"

With that, Grace carried Marcus towards the car. "Marcus, let's go home."

Killer watched Grace and Marcus walk away, standing still as a strange feeling rippled through him.

Forget it, he thought. After what he said, this mother and son wouldn't bother him anymore, making it easier for him to complete his mission.

He remained motionless until his phone rang. It was Matilda. He took a moment before answering.

"Killer, how's it going over there?" Matilda's voice came through.

Killer's cold demeanor returned. "I've already reported to Hugh about the mission."

"I'm just worried about you. When are you coming back? Do you need the antidote? Should I bring it to you?"

"No need. Hugh said I can get the antidote once I complete the mission."

Killer knew Hugh's words had a hidden meaning. If he didn't complete the mission, he wouldn't get the antidote and would suffer excruciating pain as punishment.

"When will you finish the mission? Do you need my help?" Matilda asked cautiously.

She hadn't seen Killer in days, and an uneasy feeling gnawed at her, though she couldn't pinpoint why. Killer had gone on missions before, sometimes for months, and she hadn't been this anxious.

But this time, with Killer in Aetheria, she couldn't shake her worry.

"No need."

"Alright." Matilda felt a twinge of disappointment.

Before she could say more, Killer said, "If there's nothing else, I'll hang up now."

"Wait, we haven't seen each other in days. Don't you miss me? Don't you have anything to say to me?"

"No." Killer's response was blunt. He had no feelings for Matilda.

"You're always like this. But I have so much to tell you. Have you met any pretty girls over there?" Matilda tried to joke, but she was fishing for information.

From the moment she first saw him, Matilda had felt a spark. But five years had passed, and Killer still showed no interest in her.

Killer had been brought back by her father from Vesperia after a major incident there. His identity wasn't hard to guess, but Matilda didn't want him to remember or return to Vesperia.

Killer paused, Grace's face flashing in his mind.

"I have things to do. I'll hang up now."

He ended the call, leaving Matilda frustrated by his coldness.

Forget it, she thought. Killer was destined to be hers. Her family had saved his life. Without them, he would have been long dead.

Besides, he had a gu worm in him, set to act up every three months. Without the antidote, he would suffer unbearable pain. No one could endure such agony.

If he ever changed his mind about her, her father could withhold the antidote. Then, he would have no choice but to come back and beg to marry her.

Killer went to the bathroom, turned on the shower, and stood under the water.

His body was covered in scars, with hardly any unmarked skin. He had been close to the explosion's epicenter, and surviving was a miracle.

He had extensive burns, and despite ongoing treatment, the scars were still visible. Over the years, he had taken on highly dangerous missions, accumulating countless injuries.

He wasn't invincible. His flawless mission record was paid for with his life, and his scars were proof.

The most severe injury nearly killed him, but he clung to life. Even the doctors who treated him said a powerful force kept him going.

Killer believed that force was tied to his forgotten past.

But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't remember. He felt like an outsider to his own life.

So who was he?

Now, another image haunted his mind.

Grace.

Grace...

Her name echoed in his thoughts, tangled and unresolved.

He didn't know how long he stood in the shower. Finally, he turned off the water, ran a hand through his wet hair, and walked to the mirror.

He had removed his disguise, revealing his true face.

The man in the mirror was strikingly handsome, with sharp features. His high nose and thin lips gave him a naturally stern look. His deep eyes were like cold stars, piercing and intimidating.

When he looked at you, it felt like he could see into your soul, commanding respect and fear.

Killer stared at his reflection. This face was rarely seen outside the organization.

He thought of Grace's son, Marcus, who looked so much like him.

Grace...

Her name lingered on his lips. After leaving the bathroom, he grabbed his laptop and searched online.

There was a wealth of information about Grace. Her career, her achievements.

She was the current CEO of DG Group. Five years ago, she had saved the company from a crisis with her skills. Now, she was a symbol of female empowerment.

The former CEO, Xavier Montgomery, had died in a disaster, reportedly a yacht explosion, lost at sea.

Xavier Montgomery.

The name triggered a headache for Killer, a sudden pain that made it hard to breathe.

He slammed the laptop shut and clutched his head. The pain was worse than any injury he had ever endured.
