Chapter 392 Xavier Won't Let Him See, But He Insists on Seeing!
"I appreciate the offer, Mr. Wallace, but I'm fine, really," Grace said, trying to sound polite. Sterling seemed oddly determined to see her without makeup.
He gave a small smile, "No need to be so formal, we're friends. It won't take long, they'll be here soon. Or maybe Ms. Lewis could use a handkerchief to wipe a bit?"
Sterling held out his handkerchief again, but Grace didn't take it.
"I think I'll just head to the restroom to wash up," Grace said, trying to make an escape, but Sterling grabbed her wrist.
"This place has a special area for ladies to touch up their makeup. How about I take you there?" Sterling had picked this spot specifically so Grace couldn't slip away to the restroom alone.
Grace paused, a sinking feeling in her stomach. He clearly suspected something. She didn't know Sterling well, and the last thing she wanted was for him to uncover her secret.
Just then, Sterling's assistant showed up with clothes, followed by a makeup artist.
Sterling introduced her, "She's a top-notch makeup artist. I promise she'll make you look even better than usual."
Grace felt cornered; it seemed Sterling had indeed caught on to something.
As the makeup artist got closer, Sterling's eyes had a mysterious glint.
Right then, Sterling's phone rang.
"What's up?" he answered, seeing it was his secretary.
"Mr. Wallace, there's an urgent issue with a project at the company. You need to handle it right away," the secretary said.
Sterling instantly knew this was another one of Xavier's tricks to protect Grace's secret!
But Sterling was still determined to uncover it.
Grace quickly said, "Mr. Wallace, if it's urgent, you should go. I don't need makeup since I'm not going out."
Not wanting Sterling to push further, Grace added, "Since you have to go, I'll head home first. No need to see me off. Goodbye, Mr. Wallace!"
With that, Grace hurried out.
Sterling stayed silent, knowing he'd get another chance to find out Grace's secret.
After leaving the restaurant, Grace flagged down a cab and finally relaxed once she was inside.
The taxi driver looked at Grace in shock, probably freaked out by her face. Grace apologized and gave him the address.
Sitting in the back seat, she started wiping off her makeup with a tissue. Soon, her beautiful face was revealed.
The driver glanced in the rearview mirror, amazed at how stunning Grace looked after wiping away the smudged makeup.
"Miss, are you a famous actress?" the driver asked, thinking he might have a celebrity in his cab.
Grace laughed, "No, I'm not an actress, just an ordinary woman."
Then, she began touching up her makeup.
While doing so, she got a call from Steven.
Steven said that Chase missed her and wanted to see her, asking if she was free.
Grace replied, "Sure, I'll come see Mr. Coleman."
She didn't have much else going on anyway.
She asked the driver to change the address and continued fixing her makeup. Soon, her beautiful face became quite ordinary again, leaving the driver stunned.
Grace soon arrived at the hotel where Chase was staying. Steven and Thomas were out, leaving only Scott with Chase.
When Grace walked in, she had some desserts for Chase.
"Mr. Coleman," she called out sweetly.
"Grace!" Chase's face lit up. "Why did it take you so long to visit me?"
Grace grinned, "Sorry, Mr. Coleman. I brought you some yummy treats. Have you had breakfast?"
"Yeah, I have," Chase replied, smiling.
Grace reminded him, "Great, the cake can be dessert, but just a small piece, okay? Too much isn't good for digestion."
"Alright, I'll listen to you," Chase chuckled.
Even Scott, sitting nearby, got a bit jealous: "Grandpa, why do you never listen to me? Whose grandpa are you, anyway?"
As Grace opened the cake, she asked, "Where are your two brothers?"
Scott answered, "They went to The Montgomery Mansion."
"The Montgomery Mansion?" Grace was surprised.
Scott explained, "Our Coleman family has some serious connections abroad. The experts who can do the tests are here, so Steven and Thomas took them to The Montgomery Mansion."
They were determined to find out if Wendy was really their sister.
Grace nodded, thinking they should have results soon.
"Did Mr. Coleman meet Wendy?" Grace asked.
Scott replied, "No, we tried to find Wendy later, but she didn't want to see us. I don't know why she's so stuck-up."
Scott didn't like Wendy for some reason, without any particular reason.
Wendy was ill-tempered, arrogant, and easily provoked.
Grace dropped the topic.
The Coleman family's accommodations were luxurious suites, fully equipped, including a kitchen that no one used.
Glancing around, Grace said, "I don't have much to do today. I mentioned last time that I'd cook for you. How about I go buy some groceries? What would you like for lunch?"
Chase said, "No need to trouble yourself. Just keep me company and chat. Let Scott handle the cooking."
Scott remained silent.
"Grace, do you play chess?" Chase asked.
Grace replied, "A little."
"Then come play with me." Chase smiled.
Grace obediently sat down to play chess with Chase.
She could only say she knew how to play, but she wasn't skilled. She quickly lost two games.
Chase was delighted, not because he won the game of chess, but simply by Grace's presence. It was…odd.
He even considered waiting for Steven and the others to return so they could run some tests on Grace as well. Who knew? Perhaps she was his granddaughter after all!
Grace was focused on the game when her phone rang.
She had left her phone in her bag. As she reached for it, she accidentally pulled out something else.
It was Evelyn's crystal. After Xavier gave it to her, she had kept it in her bag, wanting to carry it with her.
When she grabbed her phone, the crystal fell out. Grace quickly put it back, noticing the call was from Angela.
She didn't notice Chase's shocked expression, nor Scott's stunned look.
"Elizabeth, Elizabeth!" Chase suddenly became very emotional. Grace had no idea what was going on with Chase, so she quickly put down her phone and supported him.
