Chapter 315 Jealous?

"I had no clue she'd show up," Xavier said, genuinely surprised to see Stephanie.

Grace smirked, "Looks like she's got more game than me, bringing you a late-night snack and all."

Xavier laughed. "Jealous much?"

"No way!" Grace shot back, though she couldn't help but feel Stephanie had scored a win.

In that moment, Grace realized she might be a tad envious. Stephanie had known Xavier for ages and could just waltz in with a snack.

Grace suddenly missed him, even though it had only been two days since they last saw each other.

Xavier asked, "So, you're not jealous when a woman shows up at my place in the middle of the night?"

Grace felt like he was the one who was actually bothered. "Of course not. I trust the oh-so-honorable Mr. Montgomery. If you were that easy to sway, I wouldn't stand a chance. You've known Stephanie forever, and she never got you. Now that I'm here, she's got even less of a shot."

Xavier's mood lifted. "You're that confident?"

Grace grinned. "I believe in you."

Xavier replied, "But I don't have confidence in you."

Grace was puzzled. Why didn't Xavier trust her? She was the one he could rely on the most!

Xavier said, "If any other guy asks you out for a meal, you're not allowed to go."

Grace laughed, thinking his worry was over the top. "What other guys?"

"Any guy, I don't care," Xavier said possessively.

"Alright," Grace agreed.

She didn't have many male friends. The closest one was Angela, and Xavier probably meant Ryan or Omari. If Ryan or Omari asked her out for a meal, there's no way she'd go.

After chatting for a bit, Xavier told her to get some sleep, and she reminded him not to work too late.

Xavier agreed. Grace watched him turn off his computer and leave the office. She only felt at ease once he got home.

As soon as Xavier got home, he noticed some stuff at the door.

He walked closer and caught the aroma of food.

The call was still ongoing, and Xavier asked, "Did you order this?"

Grace replied, "Yeah, I asked Mason for the address. Mr. Montgomery, you've been working so hard; don't forget to eat. I saw online that this place has good reviews, so I ordered from there. But don't eat too much tonight."

Xavier carried the food inside. He had many properties in Oakworth, but this place was closest to the company, so he stayed here the most.

The house was as cold as always, but the food in his hand and Grace's voice on the phone felt warm.

It'd be awesome if Grace were here.

He thought he was used to being alone, but after feeling warmth, he realized he craved it deeply.

"Grace," Xavier called softly.

"Yeah? What's up?" Grace responded.

"I miss you," Xavier's deep, husky voice sent shivers down her spine.

The sound went straight to her heart, and Grace could feel it pounding! Turns out, she wasn't the only one missing him.

Grace said, "You... you should eat first. I need to sleep!"

Xavier said, "Okay, good night."

Grace hung up and placed the phone on her chest. She never thought she'd be someone overwhelmed by love, but every time Xavier said something casually, her heart would race.

Over the past few days, Grace had been hitting up some stores in Oakworth online. Since she was planning to move the company there, she had to check out the place and the factory in person.

Thinking about it, Grace decided to book a plane ticket. She wasn't gonna tell Xavier; she wanted to surprise him!

But she still had stuff to handle here, like getting Evelyn's ashes. She wasn't giving Kelly any more time.

Grace booked a flight for the night after tomorrow. It was late, and she needed to crash.

Just as she was about to put down her phone, she got a text.

[Ms. Lewis, do you have time for lunch tomorrow?]

The message was from an unknown number, but she had a hunch. Her gut told her it was Sterling.

Grace didn't reply, pretending she didn't see it because it was too late.

She put down her phone and closed her eyes, but within two minutes, it buzzed again.

She picked it up and saw it was the same number.

She wasn't planning to answer. Sterling gave her the creeps, and it was better to steer clear.

Plus, she had just promised Xavier not to have meals with other guys.

Grace let the call go to voicemail. The next morning, Sterling called again, and she ignored it.

Soon after, Lily walked in. "Ms. Lewis, you have a call."

Grace was busy and didn't think much, taking Lily's phone and asking, "Who is it?"

She thought it was a business partner. Many partners would call Lily directly.

"Of course, it's me, Ms. Lewis." Sterling's annoying voice came through the phone, and Grace quickly checked the number. It was the same one.

Sterling's voice made her shiver. "Mr. Wallace, why..."

Sterling said, "Seems like you're hard to reach. Had to call your secretary first."

Just hearing his voice made Grace nervous. Sterling's tone was menacing.

Grace asked, "Mr. Wallace, what do you need?"

Sterling said, "Ms. Lewis, didn't you check your phone? I sent you a message last night and called you."

She saw it but ignored it.

But she couldn't say that, so she said, "I was so busy I didn't check my phone."

Sterling said, "It's nothing major; I just wanted to invite you to lunch."

"Thanks for the invite, Mr. Wallace. But I'm swamped and won't have time for a while." Grace politely declined.

Sterling was too sketchy. She was afraid Steven would make things tough for her, and she might fall into Sterling's trap if she wasn't careful.

Sterling said, "So Ms. Lewis is that busy. No problem, I guess I'll have to ask your friend out for lunch. I'm sure she won't be as busy."

Grace said, "My friend is also very busy!"

Sterling said, "Really? There must be a way to make her less busy. Since Ms. Lewis doesn't have time, I won't bother you."

With that, Sterling was about to hang up.

"Wait!" Grace called out.

Grace thought, 'Does Sterling only know how to threaten people?'

Grace said, "Mr. Wallace, if you have something to say, just say it. Lunch takes too much time."

Sterling said, "I like to talk over lunch. I've sent the location to your phone. My time is precious, and I don't like waiting. I hope you can arrive promptly at noon.”
