Chapter 589 Has Your Mother Mentioned Me?

"Come in," Xavier said.

Scott and Steven stayed quiet. After hearing everything, they had their issues with Dorian.

Who would've thought that Dorian, who usually spoke so confidently on international stages, never backing down from facing other big shots or the media, would seem so subdued in front of them?

Seeing the silence, Grace said, "I'll get you some water."

She poured a glass and handed it to Dorian herself.

"Thanks," Dorian said, accepting the warm water.

"Have you guys eaten? If not, I can order something," Grace guessed they probably hadn't eaten, likely because they were too upset or busy.

"I'll take care of it," Xavier said, calling his people to prepare and deliver the food.

Soon, a table full of brunch was ready. Grace and Xavier had already eaten, so they weren't hungry. The others sat together, not speaking, staring at Dorian like he was on trial.

Dorian didn't know what to say and stayed silent.

"Come on, everyone, eat. Don't just sit there," Grace urged, picking up the communal utensils and serving Dorian some food. "Mr. Astor, try this. It's a local specialty, crispy and juicy, really good."

"Thanks," Dorian said, his gaze fixed on Grace, unable to look away.

If things had been different back then, would Elizabeth still be by his side? Would Grace have had a happy childhood?

His eyes showed pain, and Scott and Steven were visibly upset. "Mr. Astor, staring at my cousin like that isn't cool," Scott said.

"Yeah, don't you have anything to say?" Steven added.

If it weren't for Dorian, Elizabeth might not have been hurt. Yet, over the years, he seemed to have completely forgotten her, moving on with other women.

Elizabeth must be heartbroken in heaven.

Her family, who had searched for her for so many years, were deeply saddened.

Although Dorian might also be a victim over the years, compared to Elizabeth, who had been dead for so long, he didn't deserve forgiveness.

"I'm sorry. I will get to the bottom of this and give you an explanation," Dorian said, frustrated that he couldn't remember anything. He hated himself for it.

"By the time you figure it out, will it even matter? Don't you think it's too late? If you truly loved my aunt, why didn't you protect her?" Scott said bluntly. If he ever had someone he loved, he would ensure her safety with his life.

Dorian opened his mouth but couldn't defend himself. "If I truly wronged the Coleman family, I will repay with my life."

Grace's heart ached seeing Dorian like this.

Though he wasn't her biological father, Grace believed he must be a good king. After all, under his leadership, Aetheria had thrived.

Other countries frequently changed leaders, but Dorian had many supporters because he genuinely worked for his country's interests, earning widespread admiration.

Grace tried to ease the tension, serving food to her cousins. "We don't know the full story yet, Steven, Scott. Don't overthink it. Let's eat."

Grace believed her mother wouldn't blame Dorian.

Love was complicated, and Grace understood that it couldn't be explained in a few words.

Often, love didn't mean being together forever.

Since her mother chose to live anonymously in Skigeth, watching Dorian build his life, it showed she didn't hate him. Otherwise, given her mother's personality, she would have confronted him, making sure no one had peace.

Not interfering was her mother's choice.

The meal was far from pleasant. Without Grace's mediation, it might have turned into a fight.

"Mr. Astor, let's talk privately," Grace suggested after the meal.

Dorian agreed, but Scott and Steven were reluctant.

However, they had no choice but to watch Grace lead Dorian to the study.

"I never expected my mom to know such an influential person," Grace said.

"I wasn't anyone special back then, just an ordinary person," Dorian replied.

"Did your mom ever mention me?" Dorian asked, immediately regretting it, feeling it was a pointless question.

If Elizabeth had mentioned him, Grace wouldn't have seemed so unfamiliar when they first met.

Though Dorian couldn't remember his time with Elizabeth, he never doubted it.

He felt he had lost something important, and the shadow was too familiar.

"No," Grace answered bluntly.

"My mom never mentioned you. Maybe she didn't want to. Whatever happened between you two is in the past. I wanted to talk to you to say that we have no connection."

Dorian was surprised. After hearing Jane's words yesterday, he had wondered if Grace might be his child.

Grace continued, "Sorry, I never told you this. When you fainted last time, we checked. Our DNA doesn't match. I'm not your daughter. But if you want to recover your memories, I can tell you about my mom."

"My mom passed away when I was young. I don't have many memories of her, just that she was gentle and thoughtful."

"My mom disguised herself, appearing ordinary to everyone. She taught me makeup from a young age, so no one recognized me when we first met."

Grace now believed her mom's disguise and anonymity might have been because of Jared or Dorian.

Elizabeth didn't want to be found by these people. Since Grace resembled her, she didn't want Grace to encounter them either. She wanted Grace to grow up safely and happily.

Grace was curious how Jared managed to kill her mom despite her hiding. Her mom's death had always seemed sudden to Grace.
