Chapter 257 Xavier Is Very Jealous
Mason asked, "When you say Mr. Turner, is that Omari Turner?"
Lily replied, "Yeah, I think that's his name. He's the brother of Ms. Lewis's friend."
"Which restaurant did they go to?" Mason asked.
Lily, trusting Mason, told him where Grace and Omari were dining that evening.
"Thanks," Mason said and hung up.
Xavier, who was in the same office, had overheard the whole conversation.
"Mr. Montgomery, Ms. Lewis..." Mason hesitated.
"What does she have to do with me?" Xavier's expression stayed cold and intimidating.
Mason sensed something was off with Xavier lately, probably a fight with Grace. He was there to report on work, and after finishing, he remembered he needed to contact Grace about some loose ends.
Xavier let him make the call, but Grace didn't pick up. Xavier's earlier reaction confirmed something was wrong.
"Get back to work!" Xavier glared at him and tapped the desk.
"I'm on it," Mason replied and left the office. Xavier felt a surge of anger.
Why was Omari always around? Did he have nothing better to do?
Xavier called the secretary's office, "Does the Turner Group have no business lately? Find something for them to do."
The secretary's office found it odd but agreed. They quietly asked Mason why Xavier was targeting the Turner Group.
Mason knew Xavier was jealous but wouldn't admit it. It's hard enough for Xavier to like someone, and even harder for him to admit it.
After hanging up with the secretary's office, Xavier called Victor, "What's your plan for tonight?"
Victor, surprised by the call, said, "Just a dinner meeting."
"Can you cancel it?" Xavier asked.
"Of course, are you asking me out for dinner? If it's you, I'll cancel right now!" Victor said.
"Yes," Xavier responded.
"Alright, which restaurant?" Victor asked.
Xavier named a place, and Victor said, "Great, that place is usually packed. You should make a reservation early, or there won't be any seats. Who else is coming?"
"You," Xavier replied.
Victor waited but didn't hear anything else, so he asked, "And who else?"
"Me," Xavier said.
"And?" Victor asked.
"Who else do you want?" Xavier's voice was icy.
Victor was silent. He thought, 'Why did it feel like a trap? What was Xavier up to?'
"Well, it's almost dinner time. I'll head over now," Victor said, thinking he shouldn't miss this rare invite from Xavier.
Victor left quickly and soon arrived at the restaurant Xavier mentioned. They met at the entrance, and Victor noticed the crowded hall was indeed full.
Xavier was still scanning the room, clearly looking for something.
A waiter approached. "Hello, sir. Do you have a reservation?"
Victor looked at Xavier. "Which private room are we in?"
"No reservation," Xavier said.
"What?" Victor thought he misheard. Xavier had asked him out, and he even reminded him to make a reservation because the place was crowded. Yet, Xavier didn't?
Was Xavier serious about dinner or just messing with him?
"We might have to wait a long time. How about we go to your place? Your chef's cooking is just as good," Victor suggested, noticing Xavier's odd expression.
Following Xavier's gaze, Victor realized why Xavier had asked him out without a reservation. Xavier wasn't really asking him out; he was using him.
"Why is Grace here, having dinner alone with Omari?" Victor asked, pretending to be confused.
"I don't know," Xavier's voice grew colder.
Victor was silent. He thought, 'You don't look like you don't know. You clearly knew Grace was here and came on purpose.'
Victor laughed, understanding Xavier's intentions. But seeing Xavier like this, Victor found it amusing and wanted to tease him. "Since Grace is enjoying her meal, we shouldn't disturb her. How about we go somewhere else, or if we can't get a table, I'll just head home."
As he spoke, Victor was about to leave. But before he could take a step, Xavier grabbed his wrist and pulled him back.
"How's your relationship with Grace?" Xavier asked.
"It's alright," Victor hesitated to admit that he and Grace were close friends, fearing Xavier might misunderstand. Instead, he chose to phrase it differently.
"If it's alright, are you just going to watch her fall into a pit?" Xavier's eyes were fixed on Grace and Omari.
Victor was silent. What pit? It was just Omari, and Omari was actually a decent guy. In their circle, Omari had a good reputation.
"Aren't we here to eat? If there's no table, let's join theirs," Xavier said.
Victor knew that Xavier inviting him to dinner was definitely not a good sign. But seeing that Xavier finally had someone he liked, as Xavier's friend, he couldn't just stand by.
Victor, who could chat with anyone and was humorous and charming, didn't find this situation awkward.
Grace and Omari were ordering food when Omari received a call saying his colleagues couldn't make it, so it would likely just be the two of them. Everyone else had something come up, and Grace couldn't help but wonder if Omari...
"Grace, would you like to try this? It's quite delicious," Omari said gently.
"Thank you," Grace replied politely, then took a sip of water. Just as she was feeling a bit awkward and hoping for a savior, she heard a voice.
"Grace, Mr. Turner, what a coincidence! You're dining here too?" Victor said.
For the first time, Grace felt Victor's timing was perfect. She was internally ecstatic; Victor was her savior!
Grace looked up excitedly, but her joy was short-lived as she saw Xavier behind Victor. Grace's smile froze. He wasn't a savior; it was really awkward!
