Chapter 316 Abandon Xavier, Be My Woman

Grace checked the clock; it was already past ten.

She had no choice now. Sterling was gunning for her, using Angela as his excuse, just like last time.

Grace couldn't drag Angela into this mess without a good reason. Plus, the Turner family probably couldn't stand up to Sterling; they wouldn't risk ticking him off for Angela, which would just make things worse.

Since she promised Xavier she wouldn't dine with other guys, Grace decided to give him a heads-up. So, she called Xavier and laid it all out.

Xavier didn't seem bothered. "Don't sweat it; he won't mess with you."

Grace asked, "How can you be so sure?"

What if Sterling was just waiting for Xavier to be out of the picture to stir up trouble?

The bar incident last time had been sorted out, so Grace hadn't mentioned it to Xavier.

Xavier said, "I've known him for years; I get him. He's got his principles, and he's in the loop. Not coming after you would be out of character for him."

Sometimes, your biggest rival knows you best. Like, Xavier totally got Sterling.

Xavier and Grace's relationship was no secret. If Sterling, who loved causing chaos, didn't come after Grace, that'd be weird.

Grace said, "What if he tries to make me do something I don't want to or threatens me?"

Xavier said, "Then call me, and I'll deal with him."

"Okay!" With that, Grace felt more at ease.

Grace thought, 'It's just Sterling; he can't kill me.'

Grace checked the address. It was almost time, so she drove over.

Grace showed up at the private room right at noon.

Sterling was the only one there, and the food was already ordered.

Grace walked in, and Sterling glanced at his watch. "Ms. Lewis, you're right on time."

Grace sat across from Sterling. "Didn't expect you to be so early, Mr. Wallace. What do you need from me?"

"I heard the food here is good. Wanna try it?" Sterling wasn't in a rush and didn't spill his purpose.

Grace said, "I grew up in Skigeth. I've eaten here plenty of times. Mr. Wallace, you should eat more."

"Ms. Lewis, why so hostile? Did Xavier badmouth me, causing a misunderstanding?" Sterling squinted, a faint smile on his handsome face.

Grace shot back, "He's not like you; he didn't say anything!"

"Not like me?" Sterling chuckled. "Ms. Lewis, you've only met me twice, and you think you know what kind of person I am?"

Grace calmly replied, "At least he wouldn't ask me to get some confidential info from you."

Sterling's smile deepened. "He might want to, but can you get it from me?"

Grace stayed silent.

He continued, "Or is Ms. Lewis trying to make up with me and leave Xavier to be with me? If you leave Xavier and come to me, I might consider giving you some projects, definitely better than what you get with Xavier."

"Mr. Wallace!" Grace cut him off, "I have no such intention. Your issues with him have nothing to do with me. If you have the guts, beat Xavier fair and square."

Sterling said, "Fair and square? No one has ever described me that way. Didn't they tell you I'm a madman who stops at nothing?"

Grace frowned. Sterling's way of talking was definitely offbeat. She still had no clue what he wanted.

Grace said, "People might've told me about you, but getting to know someone isn't about listening to others."

"Really? Then how do you see me?" Sterling's eyes locked onto hers, still smiling.

Even though he kept smiling, it made Grace uneasy.

Grace asked, "Does it matter how I see you?"

Sterling said, "Not really. I'm just curious—what exactly about you caught Xavier's eye?"

Xavier was a powerhouse, with few rivals. Sterling was his top competitor. Xavier was cold and ruthless, even more so than Sterling. How did he end up liking someone as ordinary as Grace?

Sterling asked Grace out purely out of boredom; being in Skigeth, he was just looking for something interesting to do. As for his deal with Stephanie, she couldn't possibly mess with his plans.

Grace picked up the utensils and calmly started eating. "You should ask Xavier. If you find out, let me know. I'm curious too."

Sterling finally showed a hint of interest. Grace had some guts.

Sterling had invited other women to dinner before, but they were all scared. Some tried to get his attention, wanting a relationship, money, or mercy. These women had one thing in common; they had a purpose when they looked at him. They either saw him as a bank or a demon.

But Grace looked at him with a calm, unbothered gaze, no fear, no attempts to suck up to him. And her way of talking was kinda interesting. Having someone like Grace around might keep things from getting boring.

"Ms. Lewis, aren't you afraid that coming here alone, I might do something to you, or you might not leave this room?" Sterling asked, intrigued.

Grace replied, "If I walk in fine but don't walk out, Mr. Wallace, it might be hard to explain for you."

Grace said, "Mr. Wallace, if you really wanted to do something, you wouldn't come personally and sit here talking to me. With so many under your command, there are countless ways to get things done without anyone knowing and without it ever being traced back to you."

Sterling looked at Grace. She was different, indeed different. She might not be a knockout, but she was clear-headed and smart.

Sterling had no intention of doing anything this time. He just kept hinting that Grace could ditch Xavier and come to him, offering good terms.

Grace refused very decisively, without any hesitation.

The meal ended quickly. Grace said, "Mr. Wallace, I have work at the company and need to leave. Thanks for the hospitality."

Sterling made a gesture. "Next time I'll treat you a meal, I hope Ms. Lewis will be more straightforward. I don't want to have to find your friends every time, right?"

Grace was surprised. Sterling had invited her just for a meal and did nothing else.

Not wanting to get tangled up with Sterling, Grace quickly left the room.

After Grace left, Sterling opened his phone contacts and sent a photo to Xavier.
