Chapter 270 Be My Secret Lover
Grace had always kept the matter of Evelyn's ashes.
Grace regarded Ryan with cold eyes, her gaze filled with a distant detachment as if she was observing an irritating stranger.
"You people only know how to use such despicable means. So Ryan, you deserve to end up like this," Grace said.
Ryan was not deserving of any sympathy; in fact, she thought that he hadn't been punished enough.
Ryan sneered. "I'm despicable? And Xavier is noble? In your eyes, is everything Xavier does right and everything I do wrong? Whatever. I'm not a good person anyway."
"Xavier doesn't like you, but I do. Only I truly care about you. You're hopelessly stupid to be with Xavier. When you're abandoned, you'll regret it!"
Grace exhibited no reaction.
Ryan's affection was so insignificant that she wished to stay far away from it.
As for being abandoned, she and Xavier weren't even together, so how could she be abandoned?
"I will get my mother's ashes back," Grace said.
"Unless you marry me, you won't get them back," Ryan said confidently.
"Is that so? Let's wait and see," Grace replied, her eyes cold and calm.
Since she could force the Montgomery family to break off the engagement, she could find a way to get her mother's ashes back too.
"I'm about to marry Kelly. I can give you time to think about it. After she has the baby and we get divorced, you can marry me. Or you can be my secret lover until I get tired of you. Either way, I can give you your mother's ashes," Ryan said arrogantly.
"Grace, I advise you to think it over. While I still like you, be my lover if you want to get your mother's ashes. Otherwise, when I no longer have feelings for you, I will cast your mother's ashes away!"
Ryan threatened, thinking that making Grace his lover would be more humiliating for her than marrying her.
After all, it was Grace who first rejected him.
Grace slapped Ryan hard across the face, nearly knocking him off balance.
Ryan covered his face. "Grace, you dare to hit me!"
Did she really think he wouldn't throw her mother's ashes away?
Grace wasn't an easy target. Though she usually seemed gentle, she could be just as fierce as Xavier when provoked.
"So what if I hit you? You want me to be your lover? Look at yourself; even a pig is better than you!" Grace snapped.
Ryan felt deeply insulted. "You... you..."
His eyes turned red as he glared at Grace, as if he wanted to tear her apart.
"In the old days, you wouldn't even be considered a man. If you provoke me again, I will ensure that everyone in the hospital, and indeed the entire world, is aware of your emasculation. Then, when you walk out, everyone will judge you, knowing you've gotten what you deserve!"
Ryan's face blushed furiously with anger, veins bulging. "You... you dare!"
"There's nothing I don't dare. At worst, we'll both suffer. I believe the news about the Montgomery family's heir will interest people more," Grace warned.
"If you dare to disturb Xavier and me again, I will publicize your current situation in the hospital. Do you think the media won't camp outside your ward, broadcasting live? You won't even be able to leave your ward by them!"
Ryan's hands trembled, and he found Grace was becoming more and more like Xavier.
She was so arrogant and proud!
"I came to advise you out of kindness, but you didn't appreciate it. Don't blame me later for not warning you!" Ryan said.
Grace said, "Don't say I didn't warn you; ill deeds will bring retribution. If you think your punishment isn't severe enough, go ahead and try."
"Grace, just you wait!" Ryan said.
With that, he stormed off in anger. Grace really had a temper. Did she really think Xavier could protect her forever?
Ryan knew exactly what kind of person Xavier was. If Grace and Xavier ever had a falling out, he would deal with Grace then. Then he'll see what Grace would do!
Unbeknownst to Grace, around the corner, Xavier gave a faint smile.
Grace was emotional. That was good; at least Grace wouldn't let herself be wronged.
Especially when dealing with someone like Ryan, Grace had to scold him. It might not be effective, but at least it felt good.
Grace was about to return to the ward when she saw Xavier around the corner.
She lost her fiery demeanor from earlier and ran over to support him. "Why are you out here? Go back and lie down."
"Did you hear my conversation with Ryan just now?" Grace asked.
"Yes," Xavier replied.
"Then you should keep Ryan in check. Just looking at him makes me angry," Grace complained.
Xavier's smile deepened. Was Grace complaining to him?
"Yes, I'll keep him in check," Xavier said.
Xavier thought of something and said, "About your mother's ashes..."
Before he could finish, Grace said, "I have a way to get them back."
"Don't worry. I won't marry him, nor will I be his lover."
Xavier looked down at her, feeling a pang in his heart.
Compared to the Montgomery family, Grace was insignificant and small. However, her audacity to stand up against them despite her perceived insignificance evoked a sense of resilience in Xavier's heart.
However, no one had ever felt compassion for Grace.
In the adult world, most things were about interests. Zach, as Grace's relative, was even more ruthless than outsiders.
Grace and he were very much alike.
She always rejected his kindness, wanting to handle everything herself, not wanting to trouble him.
Victor said Grace wasn't a pet; she liked to handle everything herself and didn't want him to interfere. She was capable and could solve things on her own.
And Grace did handle things decisively and efficiently.
Xavier believed that Grace was so smart; she would find a way.
Grace took Xavier back to the ward and made him lie down to rest.
"I might have something to do tomorrow. I'll come see you later," Grace said.
Xavier nodded. "Okay."
Ryan stormed back to his bed, still fuming.
He felt like something was stuck in his chest, causing a pain.
That damned Grace. She was so ungrateful.
This was the last chance he was giving her, but she didn't cherish it. Now she couldn't blame him for being ruthless.
Ryan picked up his phone and dialed a number.
The call was quickly answered, and a woman's voice came through.
