Chapter 665 Brushing Me Off?

"So, how'd you meet Dorian?" Killer asked, genuinely curious about the connection between Grace and the King of Aetheria. A merchant and a king didn't seem like they'd have much in common.

Dorian had been ruling for years, known for his integrity and spotless reputation. Many had tried to work with the Aetheria government, but Dorian had never been close to any merchant.

But Grace was different. The records showed they didn't interact much, yet she attended his birthday party and visited him when he was ill. Their relationship wasn't simple.

"Shouldn't you answer my question first since I asked you first?" Grace shot back.

Killer pressed his lips together. "It's nothing, just acquaintances."

"You're brushing me off?" Grace was clearly dissatisfied. His answer was as good as saying nothing.

"No."

"If not, then why answer like that? Let me ask you, you're not from Aetheria, yet you're involved here. Were you sent by someone to disrupt the political scene?" Grace was making a reasonable guess, though she wasn't sure if it was correct.

Killer didn't expect Grace to guess so accurately. She was indeed smart.

"If you don't speak, I'll take it as a yes. So, are you an undercover agent? Where are you from, Lumaria, Marigoldia?"

"No." Killer finally answered.

He wasn't an undercover agent, nor was he from Lumaria or Marigoldia.

"But you're so capable. Why do all this? Why would you work for someone else?" Grace didn't understand.

This man was so powerful; he should be a leader himself.

Killer remained silent, and Grace continued, "Since you work for others, why not work for me?"

"What would I do for you?"

"Be my bodyguard. I'm seriously inviting you to be my bodyguard. If the pay isn't good enough, you can name your price. How about it?"

Her eyes sparkled, showing she wasn't joking.

Killer took a deep breath. "I don't know what your relationship with Dorian is, but you should stay away from him."

He was warning Grace that Dorian didn't have much time left.

If Dorian continued to oppose Hugh's plan, he would be removed from his position. That might be the best outcome. If he angered Hugh, who was known for his ruthless and bloodthirsty nature, it could cost him his life.

If Grace stayed too close to Dorian, she might get caught in the crossfire.

"Why?" Grace sensed something was off. "What are you planning to do to Dorian?"

Though she didn't understand politics, especially Aetheria's, she knew the people she had just met were at odds with Dorian.

And those people were close to Mr. K, so...

"No reason. It's none of your business. You're not from Aetheria; you should go back to your country."

Killer hoped Grace would leave quickly. This place was about to become very dangerous, possibly a bloodbath.

"But you're not from Aetheria either, and you're here. I'm not leaving unless you tell me who you are. And I believe that no matter what happens, I'll be safe with you around!"

Despite his mysterious nature and his claims of not being a good person, Grace had a gut feeling he wouldn't harm her.

Killer looked at her, seeing the determination in her eyes. She seemed to trust him completely.

"Don't trust me. Your life has nothing to do with me. If something happens, I won't lift a finger to help."

"You won't!"

"We're not close. You don't even know who I am, yet you trust me?" This trust made Killer feel conflicted.

If something did happen, he really wouldn't care about Grace's life. Really!

"Does it matter who you are? Why can't I trust you?"

Grace continued, "I don't know what you and Dorian have, or whose orders you're following, or what your goal is. But Dorian is a good leader, no doubt about it."

"During his reign, he led Aetheria to a better future. Aetheria was a poor country decades ago, but now it's thriving, thanks to Dorian. He's a great king. Ask any Aetherian, and they'll say the same."

He might not be a perfect father, unaware of his child's existence all these years, but as a leader, Dorian was exemplary.

Hearing Grace speak so highly of Dorian, Killer frowned. "What's your relationship with him that you defend him so much?"

Since knowing Grace, this was the first time he saw her defend someone so fiercely.

Grace said, "I'm just stating facts. You can verify them yourself. Our relationship has nothing to do with it."

Dorian being her father was something she never disclosed. Only the Coleman family knew.

Grace suspected this man was targeting Dorian, so she needed to warn Dorian to be cautious.

If someone wanted his power and forced him to abdicate, Grace believed that life was more important than power.

"So, Mr. Astor was sick a few days ago and hasn't recovered. Was that your doing?"

"No!"

He hadn't harmed Dorian. Dorian's illness had nothing to do with him.

Though she didn't know what this man was planning, Dorian should be aware and have countermeasures.

"I need to go back." Grace didn't plan to stay any longer. Too many people were looking for trouble, and she couldn't handle it.

"Alright."

"Will you take me?" She tilted her head at him.

"No."

Killer's refusal was absolute.

Grace said, "But I'm wearing high heels. It's inconvenient to drive."

"Ms. Lewis, finding a driver should be easy for you. I don't drive for others."

Grace pouted in silence.

Xavier had said something similar.

When she first met him, he was the high-and-mighty CEO of DG Group, refusing to be a driver. However, later, he even came to enjoy being one.

"Fine, I'm leaving." With that, Grace took her car keys and left the venue.

What Grace didn't know was that someone was lying in wait outside the Coleman Villa.

Nick, who had refused to cooperate last time, had his final chance with the loan sharks tomorrow. He had no choice but to target Grace, hoping to kidnap her for ransom. Otherwise, the loan sharks would tear him apart!
