Chapter 562 Accompanying Grace to the Prenatal Checkup
Jane was determined. She had already booked a private jet and was on her way to Vesperia. Jared got wind of her plans quickly.
Jared knew Jane was headed to Skigeth. He sprang into action, "Don't let her leave the airport. I warned her that this country is a mess, but she didn't listen. She needs to learn the hard way. Make sure it's done perfectly. Frame Vesperia's officials so Aetheria thinks Vesperia is stirring up trouble. Then we can cash in."
Jared was a pro at getting others to do his dirty work, leaving no trace behind. The King of Aetheria had plenty of enemies abroad, and if Jane ran into trouble, it wouldn't be Jared's problem. He had already arranged for someone close to Jane to leak the news.
If Jane hit a snag in Vesperia, it could even spark a war, leading to more chaos. And chaos was exactly what Jared wanted, as long as it didn't touch him. If this mess could be pinned on Xavier, Sterling, or the Coleman family, even better. But that was risky, especially if Dorian remembered everything. Jared couldn't afford that gamble.
After a grueling ten-hour flight, Jane finally landed in Vesperia, heading straight to Skigeth. But before she could leave the airport, she was nabbed. She had underestimated Jared's reach and the people he had planted around her. Even among her bodyguards, there were those loyal to Jared, keeping him updated on her every move.
Once Jane was captured, Jared's men called him, "Mr. Peterson, what should we do with Her Royal Highness Jane York?"
Jared replied, "Hold her for now. Just make sure it can't be traced back to us."
Meanwhile, it was daytime, and Grace had a prenatal checkup scheduled. Xavier, of course, was right by her side. The weather was scorching, and their baby was six months along. Xavier had personally made the appointment and was guiding Grace through the process.
The ultrasound showed the baby was healthy and developing well. They didn't know the gender yet, but they could start prepping. Xavier asked, "Doctor, what should we get ready?"
The doctor replied, "Start with a postpartum package and plan for postnatal care, whether it's self-care or hiring help. You'll need baby clothes, formula, diapers, and other essentials."
"Got it." Xavier took notes and immediately started arranging everything, whether they needed it all or not. As for Grace giving birth, staying at the hospital wouldn't be as comfy as their home, The Bameran Villa, which was spacious and well-equipped.
He planned to hire experienced caregivers and bring in top-notch postnatal care professionals. "So, does this mean my wife shouldn't do anything else? Should she stop working and stay home all the time?"
Xavier was hoping the doctor would back him up so he could convince Grace to take it easy. Grace was always on the go, insisting she felt fine and wanted to keep working. She couldn't sit still at home and was always finding something to do, even going out frequently.
As a first-time dad, Xavier was anxious and thought Grace should rest as much as possible, ideally staying home and doing nothing. But Grace wouldn't listen to him, which kept him constantly worried.
Grace, standing beside Xavier, said, "That's not true. Lots of women work right up until their due date. Pregnant women aren't fragile, and staying active is good for us."
The doctor looked at the couple and thought they were genuinely loving. "Moderate exercise is beneficial for both the mother and the baby. However, she seems a bit underweight, so it's important to ensure she gets enough nutrition."
"Got it. I'll make sure she eats more." Xavier turned to Grace, "See? You need to eat more."
Grace protested, "I eat a lot every day. I'm always full and stuffed."
"It's still not enough. From now on, eat a bit more at each meal. I'll have an extra dish prepared."
"What if I can't finish it?"
"Then I'll eat the rest."
"Don't be silly in front of the doctor." Grace felt embarrassed.
"Doctor, is there anything else we should be aware of?" Xavier continued to ask, as he always did during checkups.
"Not much, just be cautious and ensure safety. This is a critical time."
"Understood." Xavier confirmed there were no other issues and then held Grace's hand as they left together.
Grace had asked Xavier if he preferred a boy or a girl. Xavier said he would love the baby regardless of gender, as long as it was Grace's child. If it was a boy, he would protect Grace with the baby. If it was a girl, he would protect both mother and daughter, making them the happiest princesses in the world.
No matter what, Xavier had it all planned out, and it wouldn't affect his feelings for Grace. Even with a child, Grace remained the most important person in his heart. If he had to choose between Grace and the baby, he would choose Grace without hesitation.
As they got into the car outside the hospital, Xavier seemed to want to say something. He was planning their wedding, which was scheduled for next month. He had picked a good day, and they could get their marriage license first.
Just as Xavier was about to speak and ask Grace's opinion, Grace's phone rang. She was surprised to see Robert calling. They hadn't been in touch for a while, only meeting during New Year's in Aetheria. Since then, their communication had been sporadic, mostly work-related through intermediaries, with occasional exchanges of interesting things.
"Robert?" Grace answered the call. "How do you have time to call me?"
"Grace, are you in Vesperia? Are you in Skigeth?" Robert's voice sounded extremely urgent.
"I am. What's wrong? Is something happening?" Grace's expression turned serious, sensing that something major was unfolding from Robert's tone.
