Chapter 570 Grace's Meaning Will Represent My Meaning
"Mr. Montgomery, please, just give me one more chance. I know where I messed up, I..."
"Get out!" Xavier snapped, his patience worn thin.
Hestia couldn't believe Xavier would fire her over a woman. She stormed out, tears streaming down her face, shooting daggers at Grace as she passed.
"Wait," Grace called after her.
Hestia stopped, turning around with a scowl. "What do you want now? Because of you, I lost my job!"
Grace sighed, "I didn't think your project proposal was that great, but I do see potential in you. If you have trouble finding another job, you can come to me."
Grace handed Hestia her business card. She knew Hestia's skills weren't top-tier, but the proposal showed promise. Grace was always on the lookout for talent, though the position wouldn't be as prestigious as at DG.
"Who do you think you are? I can find a job just fine!" Hestia snapped, her pride wounded. She was sure her experience at DG would land her another job easily, but leaving like this was humiliating.
Hestia ignored Grace's card, and Grace didn't push it. Soon, the news that Xavier had fired an employee over a woman spread like wildfire through the company.
Back in the office, Grace said, "Wasn't it a bit harsh to fire her just like that? We were just talking about work."
"DG values competence. We have a system to weed out the weak. Her skills weren't up to par, so firing her was justified. It had nothing to do with you," Xavier replied coolly.
Grace wanted to argue, but Xavier continued, "You saw the project proposal, right? Even you noticed the flaws."
"That just shows how good I am! Why are you putting me down?" Grace pouted, lifting her chin defiantly.
Xavier leaned in and kissed her softly. "I'm not putting you down. To me, you're the best."
Xavier called his secretary and instructed them to notify all shareholders and executives for a meeting in ten minutes. Then he took Grace's hand and said, "Come with me."
Grace was puzzled. "Why? Don't you have a meeting in ten minutes?"
Xavier didn't explain, just led Grace along. With Xavier's command, all the company's top executives quickly gathered in the conference room. DG had many people in high positions, some loyal, some not so much.
Grace didn't expect Xavier to take her to the conference room door and try to bring her inside. She resisted. "Aren't you going to a meeting? Why bring me here?"
"Just come with me, and you'll see," Xavier insisted, pulling her in.
Everyone stood up when Xavier entered. "Mr. Montgomery." Some had been with Xavier for years, watching DG grow, while others were newer. Some were loyal, others critical of Xavier's decisions. But DG was Xavier's creation, and he held most of the shares, unlike other companies with internal strife, like the Wallace Group.
The Wallace Group, though led by Sterling, was rife with internal conflict, with family members ready to pounce on any mistake. Xavier's decision to fire an employee for a woman was already known among the executives.
Seeing Xavier bring a woman in, they were surprised. Grace, six months pregnant, wore loose clothing that hid her condition well.
"This is Grace," Xavier announced. "I called you here to let you know she is my future wife and the future First Lady of DG. She will have a say in the company, and her words represent mine. Her actions and decisions are my actions and decisions."
Grace was stunned. What was Xavier doing? Giving her power in front of all DG's top executives? She wasn't even part of DG and never planned to be.
"If she gives you any instructions, you must follow them. Understood?" Xavier's tone left no room for argument.
"Mr. Montgomery, this..." one executive began.
"Do you have a problem?" Xavier's gaze was sharp.
"Mr. Montgomery, we follow you because of your proven ability. But her..." The executive didn't finish, but the meaning was clear. Others nodded in agreement. Xavier was respected for his skills, but Grace, barely in her twenties, seemed to have charmed him with her looks.
Grace was beautiful, but running a company required more than looks. Did she even have a degree? The executives doubted her abilities, but Xavier had complete faith in her.
"Grace is the owner of Iris and Y Ventures. I'm sure you've heard of these companies and their rapid growth," Xavier continued.
The executives whispered among themselves. These companies had indeed been noted for their swift success. So Grace was the owner!
"Grace's abilities may not be recognized by you, but I believe in her. Just do as I say," Xavier commanded.
Proving Grace's abilities immediately wasn't feasible, but Xavier felt there would be opportunities in the future. Grace was highly capable and a quick learner, destined to be a strong leader.
Xavier had a nagging premonition that if something ever happened to him, he wanted to leave everything, including DG, to Grace. He hoped that day would never come, but it was a feeling he couldn't shake.
