Chapter 143 She Was Almost Moved

Chapter 143 She Was Almost Moved

Grace was speechless. She opted not to broach the subject, fearing that if she did, Xavier would resurrect old grudges and retort, "Who was it that clung to my waist first at the bar and wouldn't let go?"

Grace thought of something and looked up. "I have another question. Was it you driving that red race car on the track just now?"

She was certain it wasn't Ryan, while Xavier's timing was too coincidental.

If there was anyone who could rescue her in this situation, the only person she could consider was Xavier.

"No," Xavier answered very decisively.

"Really not?" Grace found it strange. 'If it wasn't Xavier, then who could it be?'

Grace tried to read something from Xavier's expression, but it was calm and composed. He masked his emotions too well; she couldn't discern anything.

"Do you really wish it was me who saved you?"Xavier asked.

"No, if it wasn't you, then so be it." Grace lowered her gaze.

Xavier was still clad in a suit, his leather shoes clearly not ideal for driving. Grace wasn't certain about Xavier's racing abilities either. It seemed unlikely that he could drive a race car in this attire.

Perhaps it really wasn't him who saved her.

"You seem quite disappointed that it wasn't me who saved you," Xavier said.

"No, I just asked if you drove the red race car. I didn't say you saved me. How do you know what happened?" Grace caught a flaw in Xavier's words.

She hadn't said anything yet, so how did he know someone had saved her?

"I'm not blind. From the stands, I could see everything clearly. That red race car was driven quite well." Xavier replied with a perfect explanation.

Grace was speechless.

'Alright, that explanation is reasonable enough.'

"Mr. Montgomery, are you not planning to leave? Do you really intend to watch me change clothes here?"

Xavier's gaze swept over her. "And what if I do?"

Grace should have expected Xavier's shamelessness, wishing that someone would call and pull him aside.

Stephanie liked Xavier so much; why hadn't she come looking for him since he had been gone for so long?

Just then, a phone rang. Grace was startled; it wasn't her phone ringing. Had God heard her thoughts so quickly?

She blinked her long eyelashes, her face showing a hint of happiness.

Xavier took out his phone, his peripheral vision catching Grace's expression. He wondered, 'Why was she so happy about it?'

Xavier glanced at the caller ID and then directly hung up.

Grace didn't see who was calling, only seeing Xavier hang up, her smile still frozen on her face. She asked, "Aren't you going to answer that?"

"Why should I?"

Seeing that Xavier had no intention of leaving, Grace was annoyed. "Xavier, if you don't leave, I'll call for someone!"

Xavier was indifferent. "Go ahead, call loudly."

Grace fell silent. She wanted to open the door and leave if Xavier wouldn't, but before her hand could reach the doorknob, Xavier beat her to it.

Xavier's hand gripped the doorknob, giving Grace no chance to open the door.

"You!"

Grace was so angry her face turned red. 'What exactly does he want?'

Xavier said, "I've told you before to stay away from Omari."

She hadn't even spoken more than a few words to Omari today; wasn't that far enough?

But why was Xavier so concerned about Omari? Could it be that he thought Omari had some interest in her?

That would be ridiculous. It was simply impossible. Omari was just being considerate because she was Angela's friend.

"If I agree, will you leave?"Grace asked.

"I told you, you're not in a position to negotiate with me."

"Then why should I agree?" Grace retorted, her eyes full of defiance and arrogance.

Xavier had just opened his mouth, but before he could say anything, his phone rang again. It was the same number as before—Stephanie's grandfather, Joseph.

"If you misbehave again, I'll have Ryan keep an eye on you."

With that, Xavier did open the door with no one outside, and he left while answering the call, "Mr. Park."

Outside the changing room, Angela covered her mouth in surprise. She couldn't believe it was Xavier who had come out. Where had Grace gone? This was such big news that Angela couldn't wait to tell her.

Inside the changing room, Grace finally saw Xavier leave and sighed in relief. But Xavier's last words about having Ryan watch her—was he trying to disgust her? And what did he mean by 'If you misbehave again'? She had always been obedient!

No, why should she be obedient?

Grace quickly removed her racing suit and changed into her own clothes. When her phone rang, she answered it hurriedly.

"Grace, where have you been? I called you, but you didn't answer. I have to tell you, I discovered a big secret, and I can't hold it in any longer. I need to tell you now!"

Grace whispered, "Where are you now?"

"I'm outside the changing room."

Luckily, Grace hadn't gone out yet; otherwise, Angela might have seen her. Wait, did Angela see Xavier just now?

"I'm at the stands over there. Come find me," Grace said.

"Okay, I'm coming right now!"

After hanging up, Grace quickly left the changing room and went to the stands to touch up her makeup. Looking at herself in the small mirror, she noticed her lips were a bit swollen. Grace used bright red lipstick to cover it up.

Just as she finished touching up, she heard a voice behind her. "Grace, why are you here alone?"

It was Victor.

Grace replied, "Mr. Hastings, what a coincidence."

"It is quite a coincidence. Have you seen Xavier?" Victor asked.

Although Grace had just seen him, she didn't know how to answer Victor's question.

"Are you looking for him? Why not give him a call?"

"I just tried, but couldn't get through. It's strange; I saw Xavier earlier. You two should have come off the track around the same time. Didn't you see him?"Victor was confused.

Grace was taken aback. "Xavier was racing too?"

"Yes, he even went on the track to save you in that red car," Victor said, having witnessed the whole thing.

As soon as Xavier saw Grace's car lose control, he went on the track immediately. He was clearly so worried about Grace but didn't want to admit it. Initially, he said he wouldn't come, but when he saw Grace on the track, he rushed over in a hurry.

So it really was Xavier!

Grace's heart felt a twinge, a mix of a tingling pain and a hint of joy.

'It was clearly him, so why wouldn't he admit it?'

Every time Grace thought Xavier was just teasing her, she would find out that he was actually a soft-hearted person with a tough exterior. His words were never pleasant, but he always did things to help her behind the scenes.

If it weren't for Xavier, Grace might not have safely left the racetrack. No wonder those women were all captivated by Xavier. With a man like him, she was almost moved herself.
