Chapter 381 She Fainted

Grace snagged another ticket back to Skigeth, but the flights were all late. No quick ones available.

She plopped down in the airport lobby, staring blankly with puffy eyes. No way to hide them, so she grabbed a pair of sunglasses to at least look a bit more put together.

But inside, she felt hollow, like a lost kid with no clue where to go.

From a distance, Sterling spotted Grace sitting there, sunglasses on, dressed lightly.

It was snowing outside, and Sterling was worried about her.

The weather in Skigeth had been great, and Grace had rushed over from there, so she wasn't dressed for the cold.

But for Grace, the physical chill didn't matter; it was the coldness in her heart that hurt.

Sterling walked briskly towards her, and his secretary, Vance Jenkins, said, "Mr. Wallace, your flight's about to take off. We gotta go."

Sterling raised his hand, and Vance immediately shut up.

"Well, if it isn't you. I was wondering who possessed such uniquely unremarkable style." Sterling teased.

Grace looked up at him. Behind the sunglasses, no one could see her swollen eyes.

"Mr. Wallace," she said.

Before, she would've bolted at the sight of Sterling, knowing he was trouble and keeping her distance.

But now, she was too wrapped up in her sorrow to care.

Sterling sat down right next to her.

"Do you know how cold it is in Oakworth? And you're dressed like that?" Sterling signaled Vance to hand over the coat he was holding.

Vance was stunned. Sterling never showed sympathy. Even if someone froze to death, he wouldn't bat an eye. And now he was giving his coat to Grace?

"Thanks, but I'm not cold," Grace tried to refuse.

"It's new," Sterling tossed the coat to her. "If you don't want it, just throw it away."

Grace went silent.

His words reminded her of Xavier. When Xavier gave her things, he'd also say to throw them away if she didn't want them.

Her eyes felt wet again. She bit her lip, not wanting to show any emotion.

"So, are you here to see Xavier?" Sterling asked casually.

Hearing that name, Grace paused. "No."

Even though she denied it, Sterling could tell she was lying.

He sneered, "I told you Xavier is unreliable. Why not come work with me? My offer still stands."

"My answer is still the same," Grace said.

"I'll be in Skigeth in a few days. How about dinner?" Sterling suggested.

Before Grace could respond, he added, "If you don't want to, I'll just invite your friend."

With that threat, Grace swallowed her refusal. "Okay."

"Great. But when I have dinner with someone, I don't like them looking gloomy. It ruins my mood. Next time I see you, be like you used to be." With that, Sterling stood up and left.

Grace was stunned for a moment. "Your coat!"

Sterling didn't stop, showing no intention of taking it back.

Grace caught up and handed it to Vance.

"Thanks," she said, then ran off.

Vance asked, "Mr. Wallace, should I give it back to her?"

Sterling watched her leave. "Keep it."

Vance was once again astonished; Grace had actually turned down Sterling's kindness, and he didn't even seem mad about it.

Vance was utterly astonished by what he saw.

Grace went through security and waited in the departure lounge for what felt like forever before finally boarding the plane back to Skigeth.

Meanwhile, in the DG Group office, Xavier was still standing there, having been on his feet for hours.

He looked like a kid who had done something wrong, waiting for his parents' punishment.

He clutched the hand chain he had picked up and re-strung. The beads pressed into his palm, but it didn't feel the same as before.

The hand chain had gone cold, losing Grace's warmth.

Then, there was a knock on the office door. Mason walked in. "Mr. Montgomery, as you instructed, someone's been following Ms. Lewis."

He paused and then continued, "Ms. Lewis has boarded the plane back to Skigeth. She also ran into Sterling at the airport, and they exchanged a few words."

"She..." Xavier started but then fell silent.

He hadn't rested for two days and nights, yet he wasn't tired at all.

"Have our people in Skigeth maintain hourly surveillance," he instructed.

"Yes." Mason nodded and added, "Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Park is already at the crematorium. Everything has been checked, and there's no other cause for his death."

Xavier said coldly, "Okay, then proceed with the cremation."

Mason glanced at the hand chain in Xavier's hands and asked, "Didn't you give that hand chain to Ms. Lewis?"

"She returned it to me," Xavier replied.

"And the watch? Will you return that as well?" Mason continued.

"No need," Xavier said. This was the last thing Grace left him.

Grace returned to Skigeth, locked herself in her house, and cried her heart out. After that, she came to terms with it.

It wasn't the end of the world. Plenty of people survived breakups.

Evelyn wouldn't want to see her like this, either. She would erase Xavier from her memory, bit by bit.

In this world, no one was indispensable.

As for the baby…

Even if Xavier knew, he would insist on termination.

When she first found out, Grace was shocked and at a loss, but she never thought of not having the child. But now that she and Xavier were over, keeping it would be...

Grace thought about it and decided to find a way to end the pregnancy.

These past two days, Grace couldn't sleep at all. Her mind was filled with chaotic thoughts whenever she closed her eyes, so she threw herself into work at the company.

Angela heard that Grace had been working tirelessly for the past two days and came to check on her.

"Grace, your employees have been complaining to me. They said they saw you still working late at night and then found you still at the company in the morning. Are you trying to kill yourself?" Angela said, worried.

Grace's eyes were bloodshot from lack of sleep.

"I'm fine. There's just a lot of work to do," Grace responded.

"Look in the mirror. Do you think you look fine? Look at how haggard you are. I almost didn't recognize you. Come with me and rest," Angela insisted, pulling Grace.

She had no idea if something had happened to Grace, and Grace didn't tell her.

"I still have some work to finish..." Grace stood up from her chair, pulled by Angela, and suddenly felt dizzy, then fainted.
