Chapter 399 About Grace's Biological Father

After figuring out that Grace was their sister, the Coleman family showered her with some seriously fancy gifts.

Grace also had emotional video calls with her uncle and aunt who were living abroad. When they saw her face, they got all choked up; she was the image of Elizabeth. They reminisced about their vibrant sister, gone too soon.

Grace had lunch and dinner with the Coleman family, and as it got late, Chase didn't want her to leave.

Steven and Grace had a private chat on the balcony. Steven said, "Grace, why don't you come with us to Aetheria? We promise you'll get more opportunities there."

Grace shook her head and smiled, "Steven, no matter where I am, I'm still your sister. I grew up here and I want to stay. I have my own career; I can handle things on my own."

"You're just like Elizabeth," Steven remarked. "She also turned down the family inheritance to make her own way."

Grace asked, "So, did my mom achieve anything?"

Steven said, "I'm not sure. I remember Elizabeth was into scientific research."

"Scientific research?" Grace hadn't really been involved in that field.

Steven didn't know much and he said, "I think so. I just remember Aunt Elizabeth seemed quite mysterious."

Grace nodded in agreement; she had always found Evelyn particularly mysterious.

"About your father, I think your biological father might be Jared," Steven said.

"Jared?" The name sounded somewhat familiar.

"Remember the last cruise? The host of the party was Jared." Steven explained.

That triggered Grace's memory. The cruise where she and Xavier first discussed their breakup. Where she met Steven and Scott. Jared had even approached her, testing her knowledge of Elizabeth. He'd seemed like a close family friend.

Grace nodded, feeling a bit shaken inside. "I have an impression. But Steven, why do you think Jared is my biological father?"

Steven replied, "I just heard that when Grandpa and the others were still in the country, Jared lived next door to us. He and Elizabeth practically grew up together and were very close. Everyone could see that Jared liked Aunt Elizabeth. Later, when the Coleman family moved abroad, Jared convinced the Peterson family to move abroad too. Grandpa also said that whatever Aunt Elizabeth did, Jared would follow. They were inseparable. Grandpa even mentioned that Jared might have been Aunt Elizabeth's boyfriend, but I don't know the details."

Actually, Steven hadn't been born yet at that time.

Steven added, "I'm just speculating. Jared might be, or he might not be. After Aunt Elizabeth's accident, Grandpa did look for Jared, but he probably didn't find out much."

Grace furrowed her brows, pondering whether Jared might be her father.

Grace's mind conjured up an image of Jared. He did seem like a refined gentleman, a person of high moral character.

But Grace now had a shadow over individuals with such appearances. Patrick was like that too, but he was utterly despicable behind the scenes.

"Whether he is or not, I don't want to dig into it right now. If my mom left while pregnant with me, without telling anyone who my father was, and even rushed into another marriage, it means my dad must have hurt her. My mom didn't want anyone to know I had such a father." Grace said, suddenly startled.

She realized her current situation was eerily similar to Evelyn's.

She was pregnant now too, and she didn't want anyone to know, especially not the Coleman family, and definitely not the child's father.

Back then, Evelyn might have chosen to live anonymously and give birth to the child, while Grace didn't want this child for now.

Even if Grace decided to have the child, she wouldn't tell anyone that Xavier was the father.

Right now, Grace didn't dare tell the Coleman family about this.

Maybe Evelyn was even more deeply hurt than she was, which is why Evelyn chose to live in a place where no one knew her.

If Evelyn didn't want her to acknowledge her father, Grace felt that even if she found her biological father, she wouldn't acknowledge him.

During this time, Steven had no idea that Grace's mind was racing with thoughts.

Grace wanted some time alone to clear her head. Too much had happened today, and she needed to sort things out.

Although she was happy to reunite with the Coleman family, Grace still wanted to go back. The Coleman family didn't push her, knowing there would be plenty of chances in the future to spend time with her.

However, Steven needed to talk to Zach about why he treated their sister Grace that way and whether Elizabeth had left any clues about why she married Zach.

Xavier had been waiting downstairs at the hotel until Grace came down and got into the car.

Xavier followed quietly behind, so he could see her when she got out of the car and went upstairs.

His flight back to Oakworth was tonight, and it would be a long time before he saw her again.

Although he had arranged for someone to follow Grace, those blurry photos only deepened his longing.

Grace was driven back by the Coleman family’s chauffeur, who was also skilled in combat and very alert.

They quickly noticed a car following them.

"Ms. Lewis, it seems a car has been following us," the chauffeur said.

"What?" Grace glanced in the rearview mirror. With the heavy traffic, she couldn't see clearly.

"Do you want me to shake them off?" the chauffeur asked.

Grace thought for a moment, "Can you lure them out?"

If they just shook them off, she wouldn't know who was following her, and they might follow her again next time.

If they had some sinister plan, they might ambush her later.

"Of course, watch me." With that, the chauffeur turned into an alley and sped up.

The car behind them followed, and soon the driver had led them into a small alley and lost them.

The chauffeur parked the car and told Grace to stay inside while he checked things out.

The chauffeur approached the car that had been following them and knocked on the door. "Hey, who are you? Why are you following us? If you don't talk, I'll call the police."

Grace also wondered who might be following her. Many people crossed her mind—perhaps Sterling, or someone from Xavier's or Patrick’s circle.

But Grace had never expected that when the car door opened, the person who got out was him.
