Chapter 377 Did they find Elizabeth's daughter?
Patrick started spinning his tale about Wendy's past. "Honestly, it's not a big deal. Even Wendy doesn't know this. Her mom and I were worried it might mess with her head, so we kept it quiet. Wendy's not our biological kid; we found her. My wife was pregnant, but she had a premature birth, and the baby didn't make it. She was heartbroken. But then, like some kind of miracle, I came home to find a newborn on our doorstep. No clue who left her. We felt it was a gift from God, a way to heal our grief, so we raised her as our own. Even my son doesn't know."
Patrick sighed, "The baby was so cute, with these big, bright eyes. We felt this instant bond. We tried to find her real parents, but hit a dead end. Eventually, we figured she was abandoned. Maybe her parents couldn't take care of her. We were scared Wendy would get hurt if she found out, so we stopped searching. All these years, no one's come looking for her."
Scott was floored. Could it really be Elizabeth?
Was it Elizabeth who left the baby at the Montgomery Mansion?
"Would you be willing to let your daughter take a DNA test with us?" Scott asked, almost begging.
Scott was dying to know if Wendy was Elizabeth's daughter. If she was, that would be amazing.
Patrick looked at them and said, "That's not really appropriate. I just heard from the secretary that you claim to be from Aetheria. If Wendy were your relative, how could she end up in Skigeth? That seems a bit far-fetched. I think you might be mistaken. Besides, she's been my daughter for over twenty years. Even if she has some connection to you, I can't bear to part with her."
"It's just a test," Scott argued, his usual impatience amplified by his eagerness. "We don't know the results yet. Did the baby have anything with her when you found her?"
"There was a crystal," Patrick said.
"Show it to us!" Scott urged.
Steven held him back. Scott was too impatient, while Thomas stayed calm.
Steven said, "What kind of crystal is it, Mr. Montgomery? Could you show it to us?"
Patrick looked a bit uneasy. "Well, the crystal isn't with me, but I do have a photo."
He pulled out his phone, scrolled through it, and showed them a picture. "This is it."
The photo showed a crystal split in two, the same one that belonged to Grace's mom.
Scott covered his mouth in shock.
He looked at Steven, recognizing the crystal as Elizabeth's. He'd seen it with her before!
Seeing Elizabeth's crystal on a child suggested that Wendy was indeed Elizabeth's daughter.
Scott and Steven were convinced they had found their sister!
"What's the matter? Do you recognize this crystal?" Patrick asked, playing dumb.
Steven was also shocked when he saw the crystal, but he kept his cool, unlike Scott.
"This crystal looks a lot like one that belongs to a relative of ours. Mr. Montgomery, could you let your daughter take a DNA test with us?" Steven was excited but didn't show it.
After wandering around aimlessly for what felt like forever, they finally saw a glimmer of hope.
If Wendy turned out to be their sister, that would be amazing!
Patrick looked really hesitant.
"I can't just trust you two strangers," he said coldly. "This is too sudden, and frankly, I'm quite shocked myself. I'm sorry, but I can't agree to your request."
Steven tried to reassure him, "Mr. Montgomery, don't worry, we're not here to take your daughter away. We've been searching for this relative for a long time. If she is related to us, we just want to take her home for a visit. Someone's waiting for her. We'll also be happy to offer you a substantial reward."
"It's not about the money," Patrick insisted. "When I took Wendy in, I never imagined any of this. I truly consider her my daughter. What if you take her away from me?"
"We won't. If she is the person we're looking for, she's an adult now and can make her own decisions. We won't interfere with her choices," Steven assured him.
The sudden joy was overwhelming for Steven and Scott.
The Montgomery family had been the top family in Skigeth for over twenty years. If Elizabeth had left the child there, she must have wanted to find a good home for her.
But they couldn't understand why Elizabeth had given her child to someone else, especially when it was clear how much she loved the little one.
Did Elizabeth run into some trouble at the time? The last place Elizabeth was seen was Oakworth. Why did she come to Skigeth?
Steven had all these questions swirling in his mind.
Patrick seemed to be hesitating, then made a big decision. "Alright, I'll call Wendy over. Are we going to the hospital for the test?"
"Yes, that would be quicker." Steven nodded.
When Wendy was called to the hospital, she had no idea what was going on.
Patrick hadn't told her in advance, wanting her most genuine reaction.
Wendy was terrified, having no clue about Patrick's plan. It seemed even scarier than she had imagined.
Patrick had been plotting for so long, and now it had come to this.
He hadn't known that Grace had such an identity. When the Coleman brothers were looking for someone in Skigeth, he had heard about it. When Ryan mentioned that Grace had another identity, Patrick realized that Grace might be the person they were looking for.
The previous DNA test had also confirmed that Grace was related to the Coleman family.
Although Patrick had used his connections to have Dean Luca Smith secretly switch the blood samples, Luca later tested the blood and found that the DNA matched, confirming the familial relationship.
So, Grace was actually a child of the Coleman family who had been lost. The Coleman family had been doing very well overseas in recent years. If she were recognized by the Coleman family, it would mean an endless amount of money.
No wonder, from the substantial amount of money Evelyn left for Grace, it was clear that Evelyn had significant power and influence.
Although it was unclear why Evelyn had come to the small city of Skigeth and married a useless man like Zach.
So this time, Patrick could directly use Grace's previous blood sample to produce a test result for Wendy.
Once the Coleman family believed Wendy to be one of their own, Patrick's scheme would have come to fruition.
As for Grace, Patrick was planning to find a way to get rid of her.
