Chapter 614 He Has Video Evidence
"Is it really you? No way!"
Grace whipped her head around in shock, accidentally bumping into Xavier's chin.
Xavier chuckled, "Yeah, it's true. I just found out that the kind-hearted girl from back then was you."
Grace almost laughed at being called kind-hearted, but Xavier's words quickly made her understand the situation.
"So, you thought it was Brittany who brought you food back then?"
Xavier nodded. "Yeah, Ryan had kidnapped me and taken me to some abandoned house."
Back then, Xavier's dad was on a business trip, and Ryan took the chance to torment the half-brother he hated.
Patrick, their older brother, just looked the other way. He didn't like Xavier either and let Ryan do whatever he wanted, thinking that if something happened, it was just Xavier's bad luck.
Patrick was a hypocrite, pretending to be a good brother while secretly fearing Xavier would compete for the family inheritance.
Ryan had Xavier tied up in that house, living in a dog kennel, treated like an animal.
Of course, Xavier later got his revenge. Two years ago, when he gained power, he had Patrick tied up in the same place, feeding him just enough to keep him alive.
Ryan wanted to bully Xavier but didn't dare kill him, so he only brought food every few days. The food was so bad that Xavier didn't eat it.
If it hadn't been for that little girl bringing him food, Xavier might have starved to death.
"A week later, my dad came back from his trip, and Ryan, scared of getting caught, let me go and threatened me to keep quiet."
"When Ryan took me back to the Montgomery Manor, I only had time to put that crystal in the lunchbox, hoping you would find it."
Who would have thought that Brittany would end up with the crystal?
"Is it the crystal you gave me?" Grace asked, not having it with her.
Xavier nodded. "Yeah, it was one of the few things my mom left me. She gave me a hand chain and that crystal. I thought the girl who helped me had it, so when Brittany showed up with the crystal, I assumed she was the girl."
Xavier continued, "Brittany used the crystal to claim she saved my life, asking me to help her get Taylor out of trouble. I told her I would help that one time, but it would clear any debt from the past."
"I didn't know it was you. When Brittany insisted I shouldn't tell you, I should have realized something was off."
"But how did Brittany know it was you?" Grace asked, having never thought much about the incident. She didn't know who was inside or who was being held.
After calling the police and finding no one, Grace waited for days, but no one returned. She occasionally passed by the place but felt it was empty.
She never mentioned it to anyone. According to Xavier, Brittany must have found out when Zach punished her.
But how did Brittany know it was Xavier?
Xavier shook his head. "I don't know. Maybe she overheard Ryan talking."
That didn't matter anymore. What mattered was that he and Grace had missed each other for so long.
"Since Brittany had the crystal, how did you know it was mine?"
"What time did you bring me food?"
Grace thought for a moment. "Around 1 PM. It wasn't lunchtime. I had to wait for the servants to nap before sneaking out."
"And what kind of food did you bring me?"
"Honestly, it was leftovers. Whatever was left from lunch, I packed up quietly. I didn't bring anything special."
"Isn't that obvious? Such a simple answer, but Brittany made up elaborate stories."
Grace's small act of kindness had been a lifeline for Xavier. Without her food, he might have starved.
Grace looked at him. "So, you met Brittany at the hotel to talk about this?"
"I didn't arrange to meet Brittany at the hotel. That was Jared's scheme. He thought I would be grateful to Brittany and tried to use her to threaten me."
"Last time, he sent you away and left me alone, hoping Brittany could convince me to give him what he wanted."
Grace said, "I don't trust Jared, but why should I trust you? What if you and Brittany are in on this together, trying to deceive me?"
Though she believed Xavier, Grace couldn't resist teasing him, making him anxious.
Xavier said, "I have proof."
"What proof?" Grace was curious to see what evidence Xavier had prepared.
If it weren't convincing, she would make a fuss.
Xavier took out his phone and handed it to Grace. "See for yourself."
Grace knew Xavier's password and had her face and fingerprint registered, so she quickly unlocked it.
A video played, showing everything that happened after Xavier entered the room. He hadn't closed the door, acting openly.
As soon as he entered, Brittany lunged at him. It was only a few seconds, during which Xavier pushed her away, but she clung to him like an octopus.
Then Xavier pulled out a gun, pointing it at Brittany's head.
The footage Jared had shown Grace ended before Xavier drew the gun.
If Xavier hadn't recorded the video himself, Jared's manipulation could have convinced Steven and Scott that Brittany and Xavier were involved.
The video continued with Xavier questioning Brittany.
"So you went to see Brittany to get answers?"
"Yes."
"Why didn't you come to me directly? Why didn't you explain this morning?"
Xavier rested his chin on Grace's head. "I wanted to get the facts from Brittany first. Grace, when I found out the girl was you, I was so happy."
"That's because you never talked to me. If you had, I might have recognized you right away."
"I was too ashamed of my situation back then. I didn't want you to see me like that."
He also didn't want to drag Grace into his troubles.
He feared Ryan would find out and cause problems for the girl who helped him.
