Chapter 241 Discovering Grace's True Identity
"Xavier! Are you threatening me? Think I'm scared of you?" Ryan's voice got louder. He couldn't get why Xavier thought he could mistreat him and then threaten him. In Ryan's mind, he was just as good as Xavier. Even though they were in a quiet corner, Ryan's shouting drew a crowd.
Meanwhile, Patrick was chatting away. He'd gone through a lot and spent a ton to get this invite. Despite his still-healing face and bruised eyes, he felt he had to be there.
This event was a big deal. The Montgomery Group had a lot of pull in Skigeth, but they hadn't branched out beyond the city. Patrick wanted to make a name for himself in Oakworth, and this was his shot to make some important connections.
Patrick suddenly heard people whispering around him.
"What's going on over there?"
"Is someone causing trouble? Looks like someone's messing with Xavier."
"Who'd be that dumb? We can't even get close to Xavier."
"I don't know. Security's already on it. I heard it's some guy named Ryan. He's drunk and causing a scene."
Patrick's face changed when he heard Ryan's name. He quickly excused himself and rushed over. But security had already grabbed Ryan, who was still yelling, "Get it straight, he's the one who wanted to hit me. I wasn't causing trouble!"
Jared showed up and told security, "Throw him out." It was Jared's fiftieth birthday, and he wasn't about to let Ryan ruin it.
"Is this how you treat your guests? Why are you throwing me out? I told you, he started it!" Ryan protested. He was the future heir of the Montgomery family. Didn't they know the Montgomery family was the biggest in Skigeth? Who were the Petersons to disrespect him?
"Mr. Peterson." Patrick rushed over, almost having a heart attack from anger. "I'm sorry, Mr. Peterson. My son is ignorant and caused trouble. I apologize on his behalf," Patrick said humbly.
"Dad, it's not my fault. It's Xavier. He and Grace have been together for a long time. They teamed up to bully me. Grace is even his date today!" Ryan retorted.
"Shut up!" Patrick scolded. "Apologize to Mr. Peterson immediately."
"Why should I apologize?" Ryan still didn't get it. "I didn't do anything wrong. They went too far. Xavier wants to ruin me. They are the ones who..."
Patrick slapped Ryan hard, making his head snap to the side. "Idiot! You have no right to speak here! Xavier, Mr. Peterson, my apologies for my son's drunken ramblings. He's just an ignorant kid. Please ignore him."
Patrick glanced at Grace, surprised to see her with Xavier. Despite his anger, he knew better than to show it. The Peterson family was not to be messed with.
"Ryan, apologize!" Patrick ordered.
"Dad!" Ryan's face went pale. Seeing Patrick so angry, he realized he might have really messed up.
Jared said, "No need for an apology, Mr. Patrick Montgomery. While I know Skigeth is your turf, my place can't handle you and your son. Your son needs some proper teaching. Mr. Patrick Montgomery, please leave." He pointed to the exit, signaling for Patrick to leave voluntarily.
By letting them leave on their own, Jared was giving Patrick a bit of respect, avoiding the need for security to step in.
"Mr. Peterson, it's all our fault. My son's ignorance ruined your birthday party. Today is your special day, and I beg you not to be upset. I promise my son won't cause any more trouble. I'll make sure he learns his lesson and personally apologize to you later. Mr. Peterson, what do you think?" Patrick bowed humbly, like a dog seeking forgiveness.
Jared glanced at Xavier, who remained expressionless. Jared understood Xavier's unspoken message. He had to show Xavier some respect. Compared to Xavier, these other people were nobodies.
Jared's eyes moved to the entrance of the cruise. "Escort them out!" he ordered.
Patrick and Ryan were thrown off the cruise, and Jessica, who came as Ryan's date, was also kicked out.
Ryan's embarrassment was one thing, but Jessica didn't expect to be dragged into it. She had never been so humiliated. She had dressed up beautifully only to be thrown out. How would she explain this to her father? And what would high society say about her? Jessica couldn't even bear to think about it.
Glaring at Ryan, she snapped, "Ryan, don't ever involve me in such embarrassing things again!" With that, Jessica turned and walked away.
If word spread among other socialites, she knew they would mock her mercilessly.
Thrown off the cruise, Ryan's face looked terrible. He looked at Patrick. "Dad..."
Before he could say anything, Patrick slapped him hard again.
"You worthless troublemaker, get lost! The Montgomery family disowns someone like you!" Patrick scolded.
"Dad, I wasn't wrong. Didn't you see? Xavier brought Grace with him. They've been together behind my back. I'm the one who's been betrayed. Wasn't I right to curse them?" Ryan defended.
"How dare you defy me!" Patrick's voice thundered as he delivered another stinging blow to Ryan's face. "Kneel!" His anger was about to explode.
Patrick had worked hard to get this opportunity and brought Ryan along, but they hadn't even discussed much. If news of their fight with Jared spread, it would tarnish the Montgomery family's reputation, making future collaborations even harder.
The Montgomery family was already struggling, and now Ryan had offended Jared. Compared to tonight's party, Xavier and Grace's matter was insignificant!
"I won't kneel. Why should I? Grace is my woman, and now she's with Xavier. How can I swallow this?" Ryan cursed. "It's Xavier who's shameless, stealing my fiancée!"
"Shut up! How did I end up with such a useless son!" Patrick looked at Ryan's unrepentant attitude. Whether it was the company or now, Ryan had messed everything up.
The previous engagement with Grace was something Ryan didn't cherish. He looked down on Grace, and now he regretted it!
Grace being able to connect with Xavier was her own ability. In stark contrast, Ryan's disgraceful public outburst revealed his utter lack of decorum.
The Montgomery family had lost all face in high society this time!
The cruise was just about ready to leave, and it began to set sail. Tonight, it would glide across the open sea and be back by midnight.
Jared chatted with Xavier for a bit, his eyes always on Grace.
At this moment, the subordinate he had sent to investigate Grace's identity returned and whispered in Jared's ear, "Mr. Peterson, we've found out."
Jared said to Xavier, "I have some matters to attend to. Excuse me for a while."
Then he walked to the side, and the subordinate handed him a tablet with all of Grace's information.
Jared's pupils contracted when he saw the information. Grace's true identity was...
