Chapter 170 Grace Must Marry
It was not until evening that Grace received a reply.
In Xavier's usual style, it was just a simple "OK."
In the days that followed, there was no contact between Grace and Xavier, whether in Grace's identity or Mia's.
As the date of her wedding to Ryan drew nearer, Grace had already begun packing her things, preparing to leave.
Grace was actually very reluctant to part with her brand. If she left, Iris might be in jeopardy.
If she wanted to protect Iris, she had to find someone stronger than Patrick to shield her so that Patrick wouldn't dare to touch Iris.
After much thought, the only suitable candidate was Xavier.
But with Xavier's personality, how could he possibly agree?
Grace had to strategize and find a way to get Xavier's help, whether through coercion or incentive. There had to be a solution.
Xavier was easy to coax; this shouldn't be difficult.
Grace had already chosen her destination, in the southern part of S country, quite far from here. She planned to stay there for a year before quietly returning.
Grace had started booking tickets and contacting hotel rooms.
But she underestimated Patrick's influence. The news of her ticket booking quickly reached Patrick's ears.
Patrick was about to give an interview to the media and was preparing in the lounge.
His subordinate approached him, reporting, "Mr. Patrick Montgomery, this is Ms. Lewis' flight information. The destination is far away, and it's the day before the wedding. She's planning to escape. Should I quietly cancel her flight or have someone keep an eye on her?"
Patrick sneered coldly, "Just a little trick."
Did Grace think she could escape his grasp with such a clever ruse?
"Is Evelyn's urn in place?" Patrick asked.
The subordinate replied, "It's already in place."
Patrick's face showed determination. With Evelyn's ashes in his possession, he didn't believe Grace could run.
Grace must marry Ryan.
At that moment, someone came in from outside. "Mr. Patrick Montgomery, everything is ready. This way, please."
It was time for Patrick to attend the interview.
The initial questions were about business, but towards the end, seeing that Patrick was in a good mood, the media asked if there was any good news to share.
"Yes, there is indeed good news to share with everyone. My son Ryan and the daughter of the Lewis family, Grace, are getting married soon. We cordially invite everyone to attend the wedding," announced Patrick.
This interview quickly became a hot topic, with frenzied reports online about the marriage between the Montgomery family's eldest son and the Lewis family's daughter.
The news was extremely popular, as Patrick had instructed.
He wanted to use the power of public opinion to force Grace into marriage.
Angela, upon seeing the news, couldn't help but worry for Grace.
The reports were already calling Grace "Mrs. Montgomery." If Grace called off the wedding, she would certainly be criticized.
Another person who was very unhappy with this marriage was Kelly.
Seeing the news and the title "Mrs. Montgomery" made her incredibly angry!
Kelly hadn't been able to see much of Ryan these past few days. Previously, Ryan spent every night at her place, but now he didn't always answer her calls.
She looked down at the phone, which had automatically hung up. It was the fifth call she had made to Ryan that night.
Lately, Ryan had been so busy that she couldn't even see him.
Kelly also heard that preparations for Ryan and Grace's wedding had begun, including the drafting of the guest list, and Ryan had not objected.
Feeling upset, she called James and asked him to come out for a drink.
In the bar, Kelly wore heavy makeup, a camisole, and a short skirt, with many drinks in front of her. James, sitting opposite, just watched her without stopping her from drinking.
James's eyes held a deep meaning. As he watched Kelly become tipsy, he pulled her into his arms, letting her lean against his chest.
"So, he's neglecting you again?"He voiced.
"Ryan hasn't come to see me lately, and now he's getting married. What do I lack compared to Grace? I've worked harder than her all my life, but I'm still not as good as her," Kelly murmured.
"Grace isn't as good-looking as I am, but teachers favored her more, and classmates preferred to hang out with her. She even looked down on me, always offering charity to showcase her kindness and generosity and stepping on me to make others think she was a good person!"
"Why is the world so unfair!" Kelly downed two more drinks.
James took the glass from her hand. "Who made my baby so unhappy? Tell me, and I'll teach her a lesson for you."
James had a tough exterior; he appeared intimidating and had recently been released from prison. He held a minor leadership position in the neighborhood.
"No need, I have my own way. You just need to make sure I get pregnant as soon as possible!" She hooked James's chin.
James held Kelly, uttering, "Of course, I'm all yours tonight. Let's see if you can exhaust me, you little vixen."
Kelly's birthday was coming up. In previous years, Ryan would give her many gifts, whether jewelry or houses.
But this year, Ryan seemed to have no plans at all.
'Maybe he is planning a surprise,' Kelly thought.
On Kelly's birthday, she finally managed to get Ryan to come back, but it seemed he hadn't prepared anything.
Only when Ryan saw the candlelit dinner and birthday cake that Kelly had prepared did he remember her birthday.
He felt very guilty, apologizing, "I'm sorry, Kelly. I've been so busy lately that I forgot your birthday. Whatever you want, I'll make it up to you."
Ryan had indeed been very busy these past few days. On one hand, Patrick was pushing him to prepare for the wedding.
The wedding was next month, and while Ryan outwardly pretended to be forced by his family, he had actually lost the desire to call off the wedding.
On the other hand, he was putting a lot of effort into pursuing that model.
He sent her flowers and gifts every day, but she was too busy. Despite his efforts over several days, he hadn't even seen her.
He heard she had been injured a few days ago but still insisted on walking the runway, showing incredible dedication. Ryan found himself liking her even more.
But Ryan wasn't in a hurry. He believed that with persistent pursuit, he would eventually win her over.
Thinking of that incredibly beautiful face, he felt that everything he did was worth it, even his life.
Kelly didn't know about Ryan's pursuit of the model. She smiled brightly, seemingly not caring at all that Ryan had forgotten her birthday.
"Ryan, just having you here with me on my birthday means everything. I don't need gifts; I just want you by my side," said Kelly.
"Kelly, you're so kind and thoughtful," Ryan praised.
Kelly smiled and then drank quite a bit with Ryan.
After getting Ryan drunk, she said, "Ryan, I booked a room upstairs. Let me take you up to rest."
Feeling dizzy, Ryan allowed Kelly to assist him to the hotel room.
Completely intoxicated, he passed out cold. Kelly helped him out of his clothes and then sent a message to Grace.
