Dorian said, "Let's wait until things settle down a bit."
Once things calm down and he turns down Hugh's offer, he can start delegating his responsibilities to others.
Grace came to see Dorian, but within minutes of their meeting, people kept coming in with work-related matters. Since these were confidential, Grace had to wait outside.
Grace spent the entire afternoon there, noticing that Dorian didn't have a single moment of free time. And this was while he was sick—if he weren't, he'd probably have even more work.
Many key figures from Aetheria came to see him, including those who had already sided with Hugh. They pretended to be concerned, but in reality, they hoped Dorian would collapse, or better yet, die. That would save them the trouble of dealing with him.
Once they confirmed Dorian was genuinely ill, they secretly contacted Killer.
"Mr. K, Dorian's illness is a golden opportunity for us. Let's make sure he doesn't get back up."
"Dorian has built a strong foundation over the years. If he doesn't willingly give up his power, even if we take his position, it won't be stable. I have an idea to use public opinion against him."
"What public opinion? Dorian has never made a mistake. The biggest scandal around him is his divorce from the princess, and that was amicable. People dug deep back then and found nothing on him."
"If there's no public opinion, we can create it. You all saw it today, right? There was another woman at the palace. I've investigated her—she's from Vesperia and the owner of DG Group."
Hearing Grace being discussed, Killer finally looked up.
"A woman from Vesperia visiting Dorian? What's their relationship?"
"Who knows? But if we spread rumors that Dorian is colluding with someone from Vesperia, implying he's involved in political espionage, it will be a hot topic. The public will lash out at Dorian."
After discussing it, they looked at Killer and respectfully asked, "Mr. K, what do you think?"
If Killer agreed and helped fan the flames, the public would surely believe it. Then he could step in and take control, with everyone supporting him. As for Dorian's new heir, he was just a young kid, not a threat. They could even use him as a puppet and easily take power from him later.
"No," Killer rejected the idea outright.
"Why not?" The others were puzzled. Wasn't this a perfect plan? Why would Mr. K disagree?
"No reason. Let's leave it for now," Killer said without elaborating.
In reality, while these people were plotting to use this method to trap Dorian in a public relations crisis, they hadn't considered the impact on Grace. She would be vilified by all of Aetheria and possibly the entire world. A businesswoman meddling in another country's politics would be unacceptable to everyone. And Grace wasn't even from Aetheria. Such rumors would severely affect her life.
Although Killer had no personal connection to Grace, he didn't want to see a woman dragged into this mess.
"Alright, we'll follow Mr. K's lead. By the way, Mr. K, there's a show tomorrow night. Would you be interested in joining us?" someone invited Killer to a fashion show.
"No," Killer wasn't interested.
"Come on, Mr. K. The models are stunning, with great figures. If you see anyone you like, just let us know, and we'll arrange for her to be with you that night. How about it?"
The men grinned lecherously. Killer, as a man, found their thoughts repulsive.
"No need," he said. He had no interest in women, no matter how beautiful or well-built they were.
Seeing Killer's lack of interest, they mocked, "Forget it. Mr. K must have higher standards. The modeling world is pretty messy; many women sleep with sponsors."
"No problem. If Mr. K doesn't go, we will. We'll arrange good seats for you. Do you know the model Iris?"
"Iris? Who doesn't? She hasn't walked many shows, but her fame surpasses many international models. She always wears a veil, showing only half her face, and she's breathtakingly beautiful."
"I know her too. Many have spent a fortune trying to uncover her identity but found nothing. She's not a professional model and has only done a few shows, but each appearance is stunning."
The model they were talking about was Grace. She had walked two shows for Angela, always covering her face with a veil. As a public figure, Grace worried about the impact, so she didn't show her face. But her eyes alone were enough to captivate people.
Some even speculated online: [Isn't this Iris the owner of DG Group? Her eyes look just like Grace Lewis's. She's also a renowned perfumer, isn't she?]
Others disagreed: [I don't think so. Why would a wealthy businesswoman model? If she's so beautiful, why hide her face? Maybe only the upper half of her face is attractive.]
Grace never confirmed or denied these rumors.
One official even showed a photo, "This is from the last show Iris appeared in. I paid a lot for a good seat. She's so beautiful. I really want to see her face behind the veil."
"And this time, the show is organized by one of my students. I can get backstage access. I plan to have a deep conversation with Iris. If I succeed, you all can enjoy too, haha!"
The men laughed lecherously.
Killer frowned, looking at the photo on the phone screen. Those eyes... weren't they Grace's?
